CAPABILITY AND EXPERIENCE
EFFECTIVE CLIMATE CHANGE COMMUNICATIONS
Urban resilience in Asia, Asian Development Bank (2017-2021)
Acclimatise, is the leading the communications work on a 4.5 million dollar, 5-year programme working with the Asian Development Bank’s Urban Climate Change Resilience Trust Fund. Forming part of a consortium, led by Arup International Development, Acclimatise will help to share the knowledge and lessons emerging from the fund’s climate resilience projects in 25 cities across 8 countries. The wider project will break new ground in understanding how urban resilience can be measured and integrated into large-scale infrastructure projects.
NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information success stories (2016-2018)
Acclimatise was commissioned by NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) to demonstrate the value of its climate data to the end user. Through a series of films, infographics and case studies, NCEI’s products and services were brought to life by those who benefit from them. Our series uncovers the surprisingly varied uses for NCEI’s climate and weather data, from air traffic safety, livestock management to re-insurance.
COMMUNICATIONS WITH AN IMPACT
EXAMPLES OF OUR PROJECT WORK
Our experts combine technical knowledge of climate change risk and resilience, with communications expertise to produce engaging, shareable, and memorable content. Working closely with our clients throughout the communications process, we develop content strategies that target the people that really matter. Our writers, film
makers and editors can help you establish the correct tone, style and format of your communications so that your work resonates with your desired audience. We have in-house capacity to produce infographics, podcasts, films, animations, policy briefs, posters, blogs, interactive websites and more.
Finding your audience• Identifying and profiling relevant audiences• Tailoring messages to audiences’ needs and values• Developing targeted strategies to reach the right people
Impact 2050, C40 (2017-2018)
The C40 network commissioned a team led by Acclimatise to undertake a global scale analysis of the impact of climate change for cities. This analysis, conducted by the Urban Climate Change Research Network at Colombia University, provided the basis for a series of narratives that highlight the most pressing climate impacts and what action city officials can take to adapt. The narratives are hosted on the C40 website and shared throughout its network to promote strong action on climate change adaptation in urban areas.
HOW WE CAN HELP YOU
OUR SERVICES
The Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (2015-2016)
The Rockefeller Foundation’s Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network is a ground-break initiative that applied climate resilience measures in more than 30 cities across Asia. Acclimatise worked with the network’s team for over 12 months to develop an editorial and content strategy to help foster an engaged community of practice that shares lessons and research on urban climate resilience. The project team produced a wide range of communications products including, animations, films, infographics, podcasts and articles. The network now boasts over 2000 active members.
The great enemy of communication… is the illusion of it.
- William H. Whyte, journalist, 1950“
Our communications and knowledge management experts can help you achieve the impact that your work deserves, making sure it reaches the right people in a language that they understand. Whether you want to increase the effectiveness of your research work, or need to present climate information in a way that resonates with decision-makers in government or the private sector, Acclimatise can help you shape your message, and produce impactful content.
Today, knowledge is created and shared faster than at any time in history. Making your work stand out from the crowd, can seem to be a challenging prospect. In this context, how you communicate and share your work really matters. A 2014 study* found that the World Bank spent 25% of its budget for country services creating knowledge products – however 31% of its policy reports were ‘never downloaded’ and 87% were ‘never cited’. You put a lot of effort into your work. Make sure it’s worth it.
We believe that good communication drives change. One of the biggest barriers to action on climate change is the gulf between technical research and real-world decision-making.

INFORMATION THAT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL OUR CREATIVE PROCESS
Swamped by information, I was searching for a better way to see it all and understand it. Why not visually?
- David McCandless, data journalist and information designer, 2010
“Kick off: Our process starts with an in-depth consultation with the client. We work hard to understand their individual needs and expectations.
Research: We do extensive research to inform the creation of a compelling narrative, be it for an infographic, a video, or any other communications product.
Narrative development: With all the necessary information in place, our editorial team develops a narrative structure that will form the basis of the communications product. A written concept is developed and agreed.
Product design: With the concept and narrative in place, we work with the client to establish the ‘look and feel’ of the communications product. Our design team, begins work on the first draft.
First draft: Our designers bring everything together: informa-tion and data, narrative, and de-sign. We create the first iteration of the final product for review by the client.
Finish line: The communications product is finalised and delivered to a satisfied client.
We put our clients’ communications needs front and centre. Our creative process is iterative and based on constant dialogue. Involving clients in the creative
process, not only helps us to understand their vision but also helps them develop a sense of ownership over the final products.
We create beautiful visuals tailored to the individual needs of each client. Acclimatise has experience developing appealing visuals in the form of infographics, videos, information briefs, and social media images.
We understand the importance of a powerful narrative that speaks to a specific audience. A compelling narrative is at the heart of all our design work. Our communications products tell powerful stories through appealing visuals.
