    INTRODUCTION

    Students are exposed to teacher-dominated

instruction (lectures, drill and practice on sets ofproblems and structured cookbook laboratory

    activities)

    Traditional method

Ignore the interests of students which in turn

eliminate student motivation while developing more

negative attitudes toward science and creativity

Shift is necessary (STS approach) 6

STS - defined as the teaching and learning of science-technology in the context of human experience (National

    Science Teachers Association, 1993).

STS teaching - questions, problems, and a situation that

is relevant to and appropriate for students.

Investigate the questions, problems, and situations by

exploration and consideration of possible solutions.

Work both in groups and alone to solve problems and

    make decisions7

    METHOD

7 teachers randomly assigned two of their

classes for the study (control group &

    experimental group)

used same textbook and time for instruction variable were held constant (students grades,

same teachers, gender, group size for two

    classes)8

    2 student surveys were administered:

    a) - The Attitudes Toward Science Inventory (ASI) (Enger & Yager,

    1998)

    - involved 18 items and based on a five- point Likert scale (never

    1 point, always 5 point)

    b) - Assessment of Student Creativity (ASC) (Enger & Yager, 1998)

    - ASC instrument includes three different subscales : Questioning,

    Reasoning and Predicting Consequences

    - each questions and statement were classified as irrelevant

    (0 point), pertinent (1 point) and unique (2 point)10

    CONCLUSION

    Experimental Group (STS approaches)more

positive attitudes and increase creativity skill

    Control Group (Traditional Method)less

positive attitudes and decrease creativity skill Congruent with what Yager summarized
