Handling Precautions●● Makesurethatthepowerzoomcontrolcontacts(seep.6)arekeptfreeofsoiling,scratches,fingerprints,etc.Failuretoobservethismayresultinfaultycontactsorcorrosion,whichmayleadtothepowerzoomadapter(seep.13)malfunctioning.Cleanthecontactpointswithasoftclothintheeventofsoilingorfingerprints,etc.,adhering.
●● Ifthelensistakenfromacoldenvironmentintoawarmone,condensationmaydeveloponthelenssurfaceandinternalparts.Topreventcondensationinthiscase,firstputthelensintoanairtightplasticbagbeforetakingitfromacoldtowarmenvironment.Thentakeoutthelensafterithaswarmedgradually.Dothesamewhentakingthelensfromawarmenvironmentintoacoldone.

Shooting PrecautionsThislensusesnano-USMasthedriveunitforthefocuslens(thelensthatalignsthefocus).Themotoralsocontrolsthefocuslensduringzooming.1. When the camera is OFFThemotordoesnotoperatewhilethecameraisOFForwhenthecameraisOFFduetotheuseoftheautopowerofffunction.Therefore,usersmustbeawareofthefollowingpoints.
●● Manualfocusadjustmentsarenotpossible.●● Duringzooming,delayedfocuswilloccur.
2. When the lens is in sleep modeIfnotoperatedforacertainperiodoftime,thislenswillentersleepmodeinordertosavepower.SleepmodediffersfromwhenthecameraisOFFduetotheuseoftheautopowerofffunction.Inthisstate,themotorwillnotoperateevenifthecameraisON.Therefore,usersmustbeawareofthefollowingpoints.

Toshootinautofocus(AF)mode,setthefocusmodeswitchtoAF.Touseonlymanualfocusing(MF),setthefocusmodeswitchtoMF,andfocusbyturningthefocusingring.
AfterautofocusinginONESHOTAFmode,focusmanuallybypressingtheshutterbuttonhalfwayandturningthefocusingring.(Full-timemanualfocus)
●● Quicklyrotatingthefocusingringmayresultindelayedfocus.
●● ManualfocusadjustmentsarenotpossiblewhenthecameraisOFF.

Thezoomringcanbefixedtokeepthelensattheshortestpoint.Thisfunctionisconvenientforcarryingacameraonastrapbecauseitpreventsthelensfromextending.

YoucanusetheimagestabilizerinAForMFmode.Thisfunctionprovidesoptimalimagestabilizationdependingonshootingconditions(suchasshootingstillsubjectsandfollowingshots).
1 Set the STABILIZER switch to ON.●● Ifyouarenotgoingtousetheimagestabilizerfunction,settheswitchtoOFF.
2When you press the shutter button halfway, the Image Stabilizer will start operating. ●● Makesuretheimageintheviewfinderisstable,thenpresstheshutterbuttontherestofthewaydowntotakethepicture.
●● TheImageStabilizercannotcompensateforablurredshotcausedbyasubjectthatmoved.
●● TheImageStabilizermaynotbefullyeffectiveifyoushootfromaviolentlyshakingvehicleorothertransportation.
●● TheImageStabilizerconsumesmorepowerthannormalshooting,resultinginfewershotsandashortermovieshootingtime.
●● Whenshootingastillsubject,itcompensatesforcamerashakeinalldirections.
●● Itcompensatesforverticalcamerashakeduringfollowingshotsinahorizontaldirection,andcompensatesforhorizontalcamerashakeduringfollowingshotsinaverticaldirection.
●● Whenyouuseatripod,theImageStabilizershouldbeturnedofftosavebatterypower.
●● Evenwithamonopod,theImageStabilizerwillbeaseffectiveasduringhand-heldshooting.However,dependingontheshootingconditions,therearecasesinwhichtheImageStabilizereffectmaybelesseffective.
●● TheimagestabilizerfunctionalsooperateswhenthelensisusedwithanExtensionTubeEF12IIorEF25II.
