Participation: 15 participantsAge: 18-30Language: English, SpanishType: ARCH/ ENVILocal partner: City hall of Calpe. Calpe is a town with a long history and deeply-rooted traditions, is also one of the main tourist destinations on the Costa Blanca. The Marina, the promenade and eleven kilometers of coastline, marked by cliffs, beaches and coves, are some of the many attractions. Another attraction is one of the symbols of the town, the Rock of Ifach, a huge calcareous rock, 332 meters high, that penetrates the sea and gave the town its name. Work: Volunteers will basically clean up a natural area called “Baños de la Reina” an important Roman site of Calpe. Calpe has been a historical place since the Romans or before and for centuries it has provided fish to the bigger towns, such as Valencia, Alicante or Elche. Therefore it was essential to have a close resource of salt, in order to conserve the fish captured. Nowadays, Calpe is a very famous touristic spot and the Baños de la Reina have become a preserved site located in front of the Bay of Calpe. For some centuries this site has been worked and has been found very important discoveries such as antiques houses or thermals. Volunteers may prepare the site in order to allow the archaeologists to go on working in this historic place. The archeological excavation is still going on. Because of the humidity some unwanted plants (grass and bushes) are growing on the excavation area. We have to cut these little plants with scissors. And clean the area a little bit. And maybe the last day, they can ask to help with the excavations. In the second week the town hall can ask the volunteers to work on one more task. For example to clean up a natural park located close to the Salinas (a lake in the center of Calpe). The task will be to collect the rubbish and send it to recycle. The local authorities have been trying to

It is well known that Spaniards’ level of English is not so good, even though it is studied at school for more than 9 years. Simultaneously, the workshops will try to teach other values such as the respect for the environment and promote the culture of peace. Participants are really asked to try their best, even if they speak Spanish, to communicate with children and encourage them to speak English.

We all know about the 7th continent. This impact is even more serious in environmental protected areas and touristic sites like Altea. It is about time to do something. As an association highly interested in the recovery of environment, De Amicitia decided to organize some volunteering by involving our local partners, the Town Hall of Altea and The Greenwich Diving Center, and we brought up the idea to do meaningful diving and/or snorkeling activities and pursue a higher goal.Work: volunteers will gather plastics and old garbage from the sea shore and sea bend. The group will be divided into two: those who have a diving license and those who can only snorkel. As diving every single day might be too tiresome or depending on weather conditions, we decided to combine this activity with the rehabilitation of the old “Cuartel de Carabinieros” (Carabineers Barracks) which will become an environmental and Nature Class Room/Museum in future, in the same area. The group may also support the archeologists in their work at an excavation site during the camp. This is as well an interesting, but hard work, which is important for the community, and where the participants can learn a lot.The workcamp will have 10 working days, 6 for diving and snorkel and 4 for rehabilitation of the old Carabineers Barracks.Volunteers are asked a fee of 160,00 € for divers and 100 € for snorkelers to cover the very basic costs of full equipment, boat transport to the place to dive and local transport from the work camps lodging to the sea port. De Amicitia is aware of the economical effort volunteers have to make and managed to find a reduction of costs of more than 55-70% (see https://www.greenwichdiving.com/diving-snorkelling/our-prices/) to be able to offer this project that combines volunteering with the experience of diving/snorkeling. De Amicitia keeps our normal fee of 30 € for each workcamp.Volunteers will work on:- Cleaning the seabed and the shore from garbage by diving and snorkling- Rehabilitation of the “Cuartel de Carabinieros” and other excavation work- Promoting Volunteering and environmental workDuring the workcamp there will be activities for mutual understanding and group building. Volunteers will have free time on the weekends, where activities and excursions to nearby villages can be organized by themselves, with the help of the cam leader and the chance to get to know the place and local environment.Accommodation: Accommodation will be in a refuge, house with beds and volunteers will cook for yourself. The accommodation is basic, nevertheless, it would be just for us and it is located 100 meters from the beach.Location: Altea is a charming turistic town, located in the seaside. It offers possibilities of swim in the sea, take a sun bath on the beach, play beach volleyball and other activities in your free time. It is also possible to see another nearby towns on the weekend.Terminal: Nearest airport is Alicante.Extra fee: 30 € Important: Sleeping bag and sheets required.
