Partial Discharge (PD), Very Low Frequency (VLF)
And Dissipation Factor (Tan δ )
Power Cable fault locating and testing takes on a whole new dimension with the modular Cable Fault locating Concept
from Megger. We have geared our development to the industry requirements for a more tempered fault locating
method and have developed more sophisticated methods that reduce the stress on insulation systems.
In absence of CBM, the power or control cable fails without any notice. To find the fault is a very tedious job and
requires a lot of tools and combination of tools and expertise to locate the fault in the cable. Precise fault location can
save a lot of money and can reduce the down time for the customers and the power could be restored within the
shortest possible time
The Electricity Companies have to supply electricity to the consumers at the lowest possible cost commensurate with
safety. Power cables represent a major capital asset for electricity suppliers. While in service power cables must be
maintained and monitored in order to anticipate faults and possibility avert any failure.
Faults in underground cables can occur at any time, and the causes are many and varied. When faults do occur they
generally cause loss of supply to customers and loss of revenue for suppliers. So it is imperative that the fault location
process is efficient and accurate to minimize excavation time, which results in results in reducing the inconvenience to
all concerned. For fault locating to be efficient and accurate technical staff needs to have expert knowledge
accompanied with experience in order to attained service reliability.
After the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand the Essential Characteristics and Requirements of
Underground Cables.
Consolidate and updated understating of the Terminology used
in Measuring and Analysis.
Provide Methods and devise Solutions to improve Equipments
through the prediction and the avoidance of Power Cable Failure.
Use Casual Factor Chart to identify data to be collected produce
a Root Cause Map and Identify Root Causes.
Appreciate the Technical Options for Selection, Laying and
Maintenance of Power Cables.
Apply practices for Fault Detection and Location for Power
Cables and Identify Problems and Failure Modes of Cables
Perform Routine & Preventative Maintenance and Testing of
Power System and Analysis Issues from their workplace
implement underlying Concepts.
Engineers and Highly Technicians from Electrical
Power Utilities Companies, Manufactures and
Distributors of Power Cables, Engineering
Professional in Petrochemical Companies, and
Commercial Buildings.
Participants need no Specific Requirements other
than Basic Understanding of Electricity and
Magnetism and knowledge of nature and
Operation of Power Supply and Underground
Distribution System.
