The BeginningEdwin Vazquez Centeno Pagan was born in Santurce Puerto Rico and was raised in Park Slope Brooklyn New York. From an early age Edwin discovered that the world of music and arts were calling him. It was evident that the arts were clearly going to be a significant part of his life. As early as kindergarten Edwin already found himself exploring the art world. If he wasn’t drawing he was singing and dancing either in family functions, parties, in school or at his church. Even as a child Edwin showed the signs of his entertainment skills attracting crowds by dancing on park picnic tables making a stage of wherever he stood. There is no doubt that the urge for Edwin to perform started at a

young age. If it wasn’t on a real stage it was on an imaginary one standing on a chair and holding a brush in his hand pretending he was singing before millions. To Edwin everywhere was a stage. Today Edwin strives with FAITH to fulfill that dream that was already embedded in his heart as a child & so the journey begins.

The InfluencesEdwin Vazquez is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/composer and artist born in Santurce Puerto Rico who was raised in Park Slope Brooklyn New York. Edwin brings a unique sound that stems from the multitude of musical influences that come along with being a Latino raised in New York. Imagine a young curious boy growing up in a household where his Father Bolero Recording Artist Roberto Vazquez rehearsed all the time; the same little apartment where older Brother Roberto Vazquez Jr. listened to and sang Spanish ballads and rock. Influenced by these styles of music Edwin would eventually venture out into a world that exposed him to the eclectic sounds of New York. This experience is the making and basis of Edwin’s artistry. Styles that surrounded him like Bolero, Rumba, Boss nova, Flamenco or Salsa combined with New York’s sound’s of Jazz, Hip hop, Swing, Soul, R&B and Rock. These influences helped form and defined what Edwin’s music is today. With his one of a kind rhythm guitar strumming style and sexy silky luring Baritone Tenor vocal abilities Edwin has been known to mesmerize his audiences with a powerful voice that demands attention. His incredible vocal control can be compared to a soft gentle breeze and a sudden volcanic eruption of energy! Sung in both Spanish and English languages Edwin’s unique blend of poetic lyrics and musical style capture the hearts of many and communicate a sound that reaches out to a variety of audiences. This very diversity has played a major role in landing him on venues and recordings of all sorts.

Inspiration

Edwin’s Father Roberto Vazquez was a talented Singer/Composer/Guitarist who played lead guitar (primera guitarra) El Cuatro y el Requinto.

In Puerto Rico, Roberto had an impressive career in Trio music and as a young man played on radio and recorded with artists like Yomo Toro, Los Hispanos, Marco Antonio Muniz, Los Indianos, Chago Alvarado del Trio San Juan, Gloria Mirabal and El Gallito De Manati to name a few. After marrying Cecilia Pagan at an early age Roberto came to New York with the thought of pursuing his dreams but instead found he had to work regular jobs compromising his dreams for the love his family. At a later age he then once again affectively continued his music career recording with singer Martha Sanders but unfortunately died in the year 2000. Roberto Vazquez will always be remembered by Edwin as a Father who put his family even before his own dreams.

La CompositoraEdwin’s Mother Cecilia Vazquez has also been an influence in Edwin’s musical upbringing. Her heartfelt ability to compose landed her on many of Roberto’s recordings leaving an impressive affect on the radio listening audience in Puerto Rico. Her songs “Ruego” “Te Quise Decir” and “Contestacion A Mi Humilde Carta” were often played on radio. You will find one of Cecilia’s songs called “Reflecion” on Edwin’s 2002 Faith C.D.Edwin’s always sure to get his songs reviewed by his mother Cecilia.

Brother & mentorEdwin’s brother Roberto Vazquez Jr. Singer Songwriter, composer & recording artist was probably one of the most important reasons Edwin got into the music. Roberto served both as an example and mentor to Edwin by guiding him as a younger man with his career and teaching him the ropes by bringing him along to his very own shows where he would have Edwin Perform as well. Roberto Vazquez Jr. presently still performs as a recording artist..

The JourneyAs a result today Edwin looks back upon a journey that has consisted of many impressive recordings, performances and presentations.

Recordings

2002 Edwin recorded his first self produced C.D. called Faith dedicated to the memory of his father Roberto Vazquez. This sublime sounding c.d. is an organic version of Latin progressions & rhythms fused with pop elements that include some of the very songs that

Edwin performs. Song’s like Bailarina, Warixe & Querida which are the few out of the many Edwin’s audiences have come to love. These original songs musically express the Latin roots that stem from the influences of his Father Roberto Vazquez trio music along with the multitude of musical influences Edwin experienced growing up in Brooklyn, New York. It should be noted; The Faith c.d. has truly lived after its name opening a doorway of opportunities for Edwin.

In 1998 Edwin worked in a workshop for 6 ½ Months recording for Paul Simon. He then recorded background vocals at the Hit Factory for the PAUL SIMON “SONGS OF THE CAPE MAN” C.D. based on the life of Salvador Agron. He recorded on 2 tracks, “Adios Hermanos” and “Satin Summer Nights” in which worldwide known singer MARC ANTHONY did lead vocals. This C.D. featured legendary artists like RUBEN BLADES, DANNY RIVERA, EDNITA NAZARIO, etc. As a result of the workshop an accapella group was formed called TRUE IMAGE where Edwin sang as a tenor entertaining the BILL COSBY audience & television cast.. Press Coverage /Write Ups

Puertoricans.com Quote taken from a 4 paragraph writeup. “March 30, 2005- Special Edition//Edwin Vazquez: On the Road to Stardom at The Producers Club “If you can imagine the combination of the flare of Elvis Presley, the contortions of Joe Cocker, and the charm of Enrique Iglesias, you have Edwin Vazquez. I can only describe Edwin’s performance as vibrant, energetic, and extremely animated. In one word I’d have to describe his performance as WOW! The audience greeted him with woops and hollers, shouting out otra, otra, otra, at the end of his set. It was quite electric to say the least.
