Dear Mayor Niebur,
Over the last two years the Illinois Department of Public Health has helped fundthe Save A Life Foundation in it's mission of teaching CPR and Life SupportingFirst Aid to Illinois public school children. Through this funding we have beenable to carry out our mission successfully and have trained more than 350,000children in Illinois.
This year we have been omitted from the IDPH budget at the last minute, eventhough we received prior assurances of continued commitment. Without thisfunding, SALF will be seriously hampered. We ask you to contact your Illinoisstate senators and representatives and let them know this funding shouldcontinue in the IDPH budget. We have attached a sample letter for yourconvenience. Please send your letter of support to IDPH's director, DrJohnLumpkin, and Governor George Ryan.

It is clear that the Save a Life Foundation has been very successful having trained morethan 350,000 children in Illinois. The support of the Illinois Department of Public Health

However, the future of the program is at risk due to budgeted support being omitted fromthe IEPA budget for the coming year. The support of IEPA is desperately needed.

Dear Hon
I am sorry that I missed your call and would have liked to congratulation, you once again for beingappointed as the IML President. I know your term will be pleasurable, with full support of the members, because your a strong leader and kind individual. I will always be grateful to ML for welcoming me aspart of its family and aiding me with my mission,
H would give me great pleasure to bring our efforts to Edwardsvilfe as Irv discussed with you in the past.Although we have again been granted state funding, through IDPH, unfortunately it wasn't the amount weexpected to meet the demand for our service. Thus the offices of the U. Governor and Atty. Generafhave come to our aid with hope of matching funds from corporate partners. These funds wilt only targetthe rural communities in southern Illinois where EMS response is delayed and leave the balance of thestate status-quo.
Mayors Roger Claar, Rita Muljlns and Greg Scott are in Washington today for a conference with the U.S.Conference of Mayors. While triers they offered to advocate Congressmen B(agojev«ch and Hyde,Speaker Hasten, and Sen. Durbin to secure SALF with federal funds for FY2003. We have the
commitment from former Chicago Board of Education President Gery Chlco, and ComEd (our electric company) to do the same. If successful, we will have added funds to expand to other areas of Illinois, such as yours, until our state gets on its feet and more corporations get involved.
Might you have a suggestion as well?
Looking forward to our next visit.
