ELHS School SongThere’s a school that is dear to the hearts of all,It is E.L.H.S. fair,There’s a name that when e’er we hear its call,Comes a shout that fills the air.

There’s a place that we love with a love as trueAs the stars in heaven blest; And though others may jeer, we will join in a cheerFor the bravest, the grandest, the best.

CHORUS:

Oh, E.L.H.S. for evermoreConquerors, leaders of the way,In all competing, never retreating,We must win today.

So forward then and never quail,Onward to the victory,Then we’ll sing to thee ourHail, Hail, Hail.

Was there ever a lad who could play the game,He’s from E.L.H.S. fair,Was there ever a maid, with a lovely name,She was educated there.

Was there ever a hero whom others praised,For his deeds of eminenceThen you know for his might, he has searched(aright),In the school that is grandest and BEST.

NOTE: words and music by George Bower, ELHS 1903.

In August of 2011, my twin sister and I will have been in the USA for 48 years. Yet, ourearly years at ELHS, our friendships there, including those with Mrs. Packard (AmericanHistory) and Miss Jordan (Math) still hold a special place in my heart.

I went on to Mount Holyoke College in MA andmajored in German, one of seven languages I came tostudy and have enjoyed using throughout my life.

I worked for a short time at UNICEF Headquarters, and after marrying my husband of 42 years, Jack Pei, Iembarked on an exciting and enriching adventure ofmotherhood, living abroad in Japan for six years andin England for one year, as well as in Rochester, NY,and Palos Verdes, CA. We have a daughter Lindsey, aSwiss Watchmaker of the 21st Century, and a sonAdrian, a budding writer in ministry work with collegestudents. We have just discovered the joys ofgrandparenthood!

While in Japan I studied Shiatsu and became apractitioner for the next 12 years. In 1997 I had theunique opportunity of founding a youth program atThe Volunteer Center South Bay-Harbor-Long Beach,

and spent the next eight years creating meaningful volunteer opportunities for teens, as wellas training them in service learning.

Since retiring, I've devoted myself to care-giving but the learning continues...

It seems we have just celebrated ourforty-fifth reunion, now we arethinking of our fifty-year reunion. Iknow I did not imagine the richnessthe unfolding years would bring.

I experienced the violence of war;saw first hand what bad governmentand the resulting despair of thirdworld poverty can do. Juxtapositionagainst these early lessons in life hasbeen the joy that I find everyday inmy wife, my daughters, theirhusbands, my Grandchildren and myfaith in God.

After graduation I found myself joining the United States Marine Corps and served nearlythirteen months in the DaNang area of Vietnam, after my hitch I went back to school andgraduated from Northeastern University.

I married a wonderful woman (Joyce) in Lowell, Ma. Where we still live. Together we havetwo daughters, Kristina and Lisa. At the time of this writing we have two grandsons, Seanand Tyler. Kristina is a PharmD, and Lisa is in accounting, both are doing well.

I worked at Raytheon MSD and later Raytheon IDS, in production management for thirty-five years, retiring at the age of 62. To keep busy I play golf, shoot competently, fish, engage in political activities (I serve as Chair for the Lowell Republican City Committee),and appear as a regular guest on a local television broadcast called The City Life Show. DidI mention I baby-sit my grandchildren?

Out of my four closest childhood friends I am still friendly with three. I love my life, thankGod.
