Cocktails and Clay For Teachers of Grades K–12Join us for Part II of this popular workshop series! Participation in Part I is not required. Learn from our resident archaeologist as you walk the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit and then create your own miniature Terra Cotta Warrior sculpture out of real terra cotta clay. Then enjoy the second half of the evening by creating a painting on canvas of Leonardo with the help of a paleo artist. China: A Day in My LifeFor Teachers of Grades 3–8Discover what a typical day is like for “Jackie,” a young Chinese boy, including his school, favorite sports, the arts, hobbies, and life with his extended family. Visit Take Me There:® China and become immersed in modern and traditional China. All participants will receive a copy of a Unit of Study featuring hands-on experiences for students. Science and Literacy WorkshopFor Teachers of Grades K–2Science and literacy standards don’t have to be taught separately. Explore how to use reading or writing to help students learn science. Participate in hands-on inquiry experiences to teach science that can be supported by great literature or writing. Discover how science can be incorporated into literacy centers or use science notebooks to support writing standards. Remembering the HolocaustFor Teachers of Grades 6–8Anne Frank’s was one story among many during the Holocaust. Experience Anne’s story through a visit to The Power of Children: Making a Difference exhibit, hands-on activities, and a theatrical performance. Hear other stories from the Holocaust that are significant to this period in history. Date: Thursday, March 19, 2015 Time: 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.Fee: $55 Registration Deadline: March 12, 2015 Terra Cotta Warriors: The Emperor’s Painted ArmyFor Teachers of Grades 3–8Explore the mysteries of the Terra Cotta Warriors, created for the first emperor of China in the third century BCE. This half-day workshop will introduce teachers to the one-of-a-kind exhibit, Terra Cotta Warriors: The Emperor’s Painted Army, directly from China’s Shaanxi Province. Examine real artifacts from ancient China and learn about this amazing archaeological site and the ongoing effort to preserve its remarkable artifacts. Participants will receive copies of a Unit of Study featuring hands-on activities for students and other teaching materials. TEACHER SPEAKER SERIES Coffee and Conversation with Janell Cannon and Rob MiesFor Teachers of Grades K–8Meet and chat with Janell Cannon as she reads one of her most popular books, Stellaluna, and shares her passion for writing.
