Educator Effectiveness Update and Orientation 2014
CDE and SSSD Updates
Awareness of the process
Legislation requires that there be an annual review and revisions of the rubric. Expect changes each year but they are now to the point where they are minor in scope.
Each year there will be an orientation to the changes in the system
The Principal’s rubric has no changes to language or professional practices.
The current teacher rubric has been modified at the professional practice level by:
Streamlining to eliminate redundancies
Clarifying language
Moving a few professional practices to different rating levels
Breaking apart complex professional practices to manageable parts
Formatting observable professional practices in bold and italics
Revisions to Educator Rubrics
3
The language of the professional practices has been made more specific in order to be clearer and more precise in setting performance expectations.

2013-14 Teacher Rubric
2014-15 Teacher Rubric
Std. 2d – Exemplary
Students apply coping skills to classroom situations.
Students apply coping skills such as self-reflection, self-regulation and persistence to classroom situations.
Std. 5c – Basic
The teacher partners with every family to support student success.
The teacher advocates for students with families and other significant adults using a variety of communication tools and strategies.
As an example
Some Professional practices moved to different rating levels due to lessons learned in the field. In this example, the practices in the BASIC and PARTIALLY PROFICIENT columns were swapped because it was noted in the field that each of the professional practices in the basic column represent aspects that build toward the conducive learning environment, which is now in the partially proficient column.
