Educator Effectiveness 101
Session OutcomesParticipants will:
• Understand that evaluation is one aspect of educator effectiveness
• Discuss the definitions of effective educators and the educator
quality standards
• Gather information about the implications of evaluation on educator
status
• Compare their current evaluation system to the draft
recommendations of the evaluation system
– Focus on continuous improvement and meaningful feedback
– Transparency
– Evaluation informing professional development and other aspects of a human
capital system
• Discuss the interrelatedness of the Performance Frameworks, the
reform initiatives, and the Unified Improvement Plan (UIP)
• Begin to synthesize areas of focus and strategies for implementation

• The Educator Effectiveness unit of the Colorado
Department of Education is charged with:– Ensuring that all of the state initiatives are connected and
mutually supportive.
– Creating a Model Evaluation System that districts may choose to
implement.
– Providing support to districts as they either create or adopt
evaluation systems.
– Creating a Resource Bank to support Districts as they implement
evaluation systems.
– Ensuring that evaluation systems across the state are consistent
with SB 10-191.
