BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL Our school “Liceo Maria Legnani” is a secondary school

and its history is very troubled. It was built in 1969 by the municipal administration. At first, it was only a separated building of another school in a city near Saronno ( the Liceo Classico of Busto Arsizio) and it became independent only from 1974. Originally the liceo didn’t have its own location and it stayed in another school building. From 1976 to 2001 it was still in another building, in Volonterio 34 street. But after a few years the building became too much old and dangerous: the school had to change its location another time.

Eventually, last year the works to build the new structure finished. But it isn’t enough big to contain all the students. Then we’ve got two seats now: the first is old (it’s the building which was built in 1969), the latter (the headquarters) is the new one. Unfortunately, there are still several problems. In fact, in the old seat (ours) the secretary is bad and slow because our janitors must be also our secretaries; and in the new one there were problems with the water system. In spite of all this problems, we like our school, and in particular the classrooms, because they’re very big and we can have all the room we want.

ORGANIZATION We go to school at 8.10 and we study for 3 hours,

until the break that is at10.55. After it we study for one or two hours (it depends on the days) and then we can return home. We attend a secondary school where we study Latin, ancient Greek, Math, Art’s History, History, Geography, English, Italian, Religion and Physical Education. For example, we study Italian reading some poems and analysing them (this year we are studying “Promessi sposi- The Betrothed”) or we practise English studying grammatical forms and speaking using them to learn to speak correctly.

In our school there are several positions: the principal, the teachers, the school representatives ,the seat responsible and the class responsible. The school representatives prepare the school’s meetings. During them we usually watch a film about an important theme of modern issues; then we have to comment it. The other representatives have different tasks. For example, the class representatives help the class to solve problems with teachers or internal relationships. In general, the main problems are with teachers.

SCHOOL GOALS In our school the most important goals

regard education and the attempt of our teachers to make us good citizens.

In particular they’re about: making students responsible and curious, teaching them how beautiful living is, diffusing the classic culture. The teachers’ aim is to let pupils participate consciously and responsibly to the social life. An important target is also the development of our personality. As a consequence the school promotes different activities, as the theatre, the chorus, the music group and the school magazine. We’ve got also a motto: “interested in anything, curious to understand, keen on life and altruistic”.
