Located next to one of the great projects, Alvaro Siza’s swimming pool by the sea, the use of Le Coubusier’s design principles found in projects like Casa Cruchet produced a truly unique building solution for the site. Much of this transformative design exercise rendered a better understanding of space versus volume. Though seen by many as one in the same space as we discovered relates more to purpose while volume may go on undefined, free of the influences of the site. The roof may appear not of the Cobusian nature, but Corbusier always wanted something of the natural human element within his buildings. The wind and the waves inspired the roof system so as to relate to the natural condition of the site a thusly relate to the human experience of visiting the ocean.
