1 Education Week Creating the Future It was great to see so many parents and grandparents join us today for our open classrooms and P&C Major Fundraising event The School Walkathon. Please see the P&C information section to see the time frame for returning those sponsorship forms and money. Thank you to our P&C for their efforts with the Walkathon particularly the barbecue, prizes, food and drink provided for our students. Thank you also to Mrs Cindy Dignum for coordinating some of the finer details for this activity and the staff for their support. I’ve been looking for some motivational songs for the day These boots are made for walking, or Oh when the Saints go marching in, And I would walk a 500 miles and I would walk 500 more! I hope you enjoyed the day boys and girls! I was incredibly proud of Wauchope Public School on Monday evening at the Bago Community of School Awards ceremony. On display was talent, confidence, organisation and ability. Our choir was absolutely beautiful, our dance group sensational, our school captain Dylan Small was brilliant, Mrs Pelley’s organisation skills were on display and our teacher’s ability to have our students perform at such a high standard. Thank you Mrs Brassey for your efforts with the choir and Mrs Hollis and Mrs Dignum with the dance group. Thanks also to the mums who assisted back stage. Congratulations to the following very deserved award winners on the night from Wauchope Public School. I’ve been informed that it was a very enjoyable day. I was very pleased to see all 110 students board the buses all wearing our school hat. They looked great! I challenge all parents to put your foot down and insist your child wears them every day! Thank you Mr Jones for coordinating this day and Mrs Gowan, Mr Moodie and Mr Sallustio for attending the day. Athletics Good luck to our 50 plus strong Athletics team who will be representing our school at the Hastings Camden Haven PSSA Carnival in Laurieton tomorrow. A special good luck to our Special Education students who will be participating for the first time in a number of years. I’m hoping our team has been inspired by the Australian Olympic Team. Gold, Gold, Gold for Wauchope PS! Due to the size of our team we have organised a bus to transport (leaving WPS at 8.30am) our team to the carnival to try to ease the burden on parents who work and ensure all students selected can attend. We are hoping that all team members at least travel down on the bus for school spirit and also to assist with covering the cost of the bus. Obviously many parents will leave from the carnival after signing their children out with our Team Manager Mrs Amanda Darcy. It is expected that all WPS students compete in our sports uniform and wear our school hat between events.

Year 6 Comboyne Excursion

Almost every WPS Year 6 student attended this day which was great to see. I’ve been informed that it was a very enjoyable day. I was very pleased to see all 110 students board the buses all wearing our school hat. They looked great! I challenge all parents to put your foot down and insist your child wears them every day! Athletics

Vandalism

Unfortunately at present we are experiencing an increased rate of vandalism and trespassing. The police have been called on numerous occasions and I have requested extra security patrols. We have had children/teenagers running along walkways roofs, lighting fires, breaking glass, smashing pot plants and creating a variety of mess. I request your support on two fronts, the first being if you see any people in our school who should not be there outside school hours please call the police and secondly make sure your child or elder siblings stay out of the school grounds so they are not accused of anything if caught by the police or security. I have begun to lobby the Department of Education to erect a security fence around our school as I know this would dramatically reduce these issues. I have also enlisted the support of our P&C. It is interesting to note that we are the only school in Wauchope that does not have a security fence. So if you ever get a hearing with a politician of any kind ask them why we don’t have a security fence and everyone else does!

PSSA Knockout Success

Congratulations to the 2012 Lower North Coast champions our Netball team who defeated Narranga PS in Coffs Harbour 32 – 9. An impressive win! Well done also to our Girls soccer team who defeated a talented North Haven team 1-0. Our boys bowed out to a skilful Tacking Point team 2-5 but showed great spirit, grit and determination by winning the second half 2 – 0. Well done boys.

Touch Football Champ

Good luck to Maihali S who will represent the North Coast in touch football in Parkes next week.

Thank You

Thank you to Lyn Occhiuzzi for her very kind donation of a drum set which will go to our music room.

Netball News

On Tuesday, 31st July, our girls netball team travelled to Coffs Harbour to play Narranga Public School. Despite cool and windy conditions our girls played a fantastic game to defeat Narranga 32-9. Our goal shooters, Kiara D and Sarah W were outstanding. Jakeisha S and Maihali S provided tight defence in the goal circle while Maddy B and Piper T kept up the defence in court play. Layne F did a superb job as centre whilst Ashleigh W, Molly S and Gabbi F were sharp in attack. Well done girls, you are now Lower North Coast champions! A big thank you to assistant coach, Mrs Newell, Holly Lewis for umpiring and all the parents who transported the girls to Coffs Harbour. We now go on to play a team from the north-west division for a chance to play in the top eight in Sydney in September.

Jeans for Genes Day

We are excited to be involved in Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 3rd August, when our school, like many around Australia, will be awash with denim in a united stance against childhood disease. Please make sure your child is wearing their favourite pair of jeans and brings a gold coin donation on the day. One in 20 kids is born with a genetic disease or congenital abnormality. By getting involved in Jeans for Genes Day, we are helping scientists at Children’s Medical Research Institute to unravel the cures to a range of childhood medical conditions – for the benefit of children everywhere. If you would like more information please visit jeansforgenes.org.au
