• In today's global economy, a highly skilled and innovative workforce is critical to our country's – and our company's -- survival.

• Like many companies, Ford and its suppliers are having increasing difficulty in finding and keeping a motivated workforce with skills in science, technology, engineering, design and finance.

• A combination of factors – including Baby-Boomer retirements and a drop in student pursuit of technical fields of study -- has dramatically accelerated the shrinking of the talent pool, particularly in North America.

• Businesses are increasingly finding that young people coming out of school do not have the skill set necessary to innovate and problem solve in a global, knowledge-driven economy.
