The purpose of Education Now is to encourage the population of Breiðholt to seek education and to promote participation of immigrants in Icelandic community At Education Now you are offered advice and support which helps with both education and work. Efforts will be made to offer beginners courses where a teacher or assistant teacher speaks their native language. Groups, institutions and companies can request Icelandic courses based on their own needs Icelandic assessment: An assessment is made at the beginning of the studies and a course difficulty chosen accordingly. Icelandic and community is a 120 hour course about the Icelandic language, culture and society. Field trips and making a CV are part of the course. The course is for those who have completed 180 hours of Icelandic courses or show equivalent Icelandic knowledge during the assessment. Icelandic Village (íslenskuþorpið): Is a learning method based on recent research. The method is based on active participation of the students, companies and institutions in the community in practical assignments and communications. Companies and institutions can participate, further information is at www.islenskuthorpid.is. fjölbrautaskólinn í Breiðholti www.fb.is The study program of the Fjölbrautarskóli is in the library and there they have speech synthesizers for dyslexics as well as computer programs and counsellors. the study program is open weekdays from 8-16.

the reading room of the school is open weekdays: Monday to Thursday 8 to 22Fridays 8 to 16

Reykjavik City Library in Gerðuberg www.borgarbokasafn.is Reading accommodations are open to anyone but a library card costs 1700 ISK (Free for over 70 year olds and under 18 year old) At the library movies and books can be borrowed in many languages.

assisted learning: You can request guidance and assistance with homework from the employees of Education Now.

workshops and childcare: Education Now offers childcare or courses for children while parents are studying if they so wish.

The Education Now project offers you services and counselling free of charge: Career-, social-, psychological- and reading guidance as well as interpretation services.

Open sessions with counsellors - Reykjavik City library in Gerðuberg: Mondays at 17:00-18:00 A career counsellor helps you evaluate your interests, previous studies and occupational experiences and introduces the skills evaluation process.

wednesdays at 17:00-18:00 Counsellors from the Reykjavík Human Rights Office speak Icelandic, English and Polish offer information on city services, rights and obligations in Icelandic society, labour market, residence permits, citizenship, etc.
