A Student's Cyber Safety Prayer

Dear God,

Please help our community to use the Internet wisely.

Help us respect others through our actions and words.

Remind us that others can view our posts, tweets, and likes.

Remind us to consider the consequences of our actions.

Guide us to utilize modern technologies in a beneficial manner.

And as always we ask that you protect us from harm.

Be always at our side to keep a wholesome heart now and forever,

Amen.

Feedback from parents in regards to cyber safety concerns has identified that parents would like more information

on managing the use of devices at home and the ever present issue of children and the world of Social Media. In

response to this feedback Sacred Heart will be hosting the eSmart parent workshop ‘#Trending’. This workshop will

provide insight into the online worlds of young people including the latest trends, risks and research, with a strong

focus on social media. #Trending includes practical tips for teachers/parents on how to manage technology use in

the school/home.

Outcomes:

You will develop an understanding of the appeal of social media and how to support young people to stay

safe

You will appreciate that bullying is a relationship issue and cyber bullying is merely an extension of this

behaviour

You will know how to emphasise the importance of open communication and connectedness in keeping

young people safe, off and online

You will know where and how to report inappropriate content and how best to support young people who

are experiencing harm.

Facilitated by an eSmart Schools expert, all the

latest trends and research will be presented

and strategies will be discussed to assist with

the understanding of cyber safe behaviours at

home.

This evening is targeted at parents. As we

highly encourage all parents to attend, the

school will provide supervision for children if

required. To attend please complete the

CareMonkey notice SHPS Cyber Safety Parent

‘Connect’ Workshop 2018.

If you are ever concerned over cybersafety or

would like to discuss any of the information

included in this newsletter, please do not

hesitate to contact one of the members of the

e-learning team or your child’s class teacher.

Regards

Brian

Dear Parents,

Recently the Year 5/6s had a Workshop day which centred on their responses to a 'Resilience Survey' held earlier in

the year. The Student Wellbeing Team have been addressing each suggestion made by the students and 'Our Family

Time Wish list' has been created from the students' written responses regarding family time.

Our Year 5/6 students believe they represent all students from Sacred Heart Primary School and we invite you to

read the wish list and have a conversation with your child.

From The Student Wellbeing Team.

(Mrs Angela Walsh, Ms Rebecca Marcuzzo and Mrs Jenny Lefebvre)

Our Family Time Wish List On their wellbeing workshop day the grade 5/6 students created a wish list of all the things they would like to do with the adults in their lives to support quality time together and better conversations. This was identified as an area of concern by our senior students.

Adults could: ★ Talk with us about our interests ★ Spend time together ★ Ask about our day ★ Talk about school ★ Share problems ★ Go out together ★ Eat together ★ Watch a movie together ★ Go out together on the weekends ★ Make a blanket fort together ★ Complete homework together ★ Play with us ★ Talk about what you have been doing lately ★ Ask random questions to start fun conversations ★ Timetable regular family time ★ Have board game night ★ When you don’t have work plan a day out ★ Have a BBQ ★ Get off the electronics ★ Go shopping

Some other great ideas for quality family time are:

● Have a family slumber party ● Camp in the backyard ● Go through baby photos ● Record yourselves acting out a play ● Make and fly a kite ● Paper aeroplane competition ● Family bike ride ● Volunteer at an animal shelter ● Let the kids navigate and see where you end up ● Say why you’re grateful for each other ● Have a formal dinner wearing your nicest clothes ● Have breakfast for dinner/ let the kids cook dinner ● Create an obstacle course and have a race ● Start a family blog and take turns updating it from different perspectives ● Say ‘I love you’ every day ● 32 Fun Family Activities

How much physical activity does your child need?

School-age children should do at least one hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.

But, Did You Know?

• 80% of school-aged kids aren’t active enough according to Australian physical activity guidelines.

• 70% spend more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen for recreation

Most primary school-age children still need plenty of unstructured activity like running and chasing, and

playground games. With this in mind, the team at Camp Australia OSHC team incorporate the Heart Health

physical activity guidelines in each session of Before and After School Care, to help the kids at your school

to find fun activities that will get them moving.

Some of the ways that we do this include:

• Providing a safe environment with active toys like balls, skipping ropes and supervised access to the

outside playground when weather allows.

• Modified games of footy, netball, basketball and soccer are incorporated to develop skills without

getting hurt or losing confidence.

• We lead by example and join in, so the kids are motivated to try something different.

• We limit screen time at OSHC, which allows more time to enjoy physical activities.

• For kids who just don’t like sports, we encourage other hobbies like dancing, collecting leaves or

feathers for craft and exploring outdoor areas.

Drop in after school if you’d like to see some of the active games we play at OSHC! The Program

Coordinator will be available to answer any questions you might have.

Kind Regards,

Camp Australia
