you to a mailing list to receive notices of upcoming events.
There is so much construction in the Polo Park area and it is expected to be ongoing for the next two years or so. Major
streets and transit routes surrounding ImagineAbility have been affected by this. Please be careful when walking.
Gary Dyson recently joined the team at ImagineAbility. He
has been learning the role of Contract Manufacturing
Manager now that Alan Hill has hung up his hat to relax on
the beaches of Mexico. Gary brings a vast amount of
experience to the job having worked in both a social service
and financial service background. He has worked for the
Province of Manitoba, the Independent Living Resource
Centre and the Royal Bank.
He has done terms with the Province working in Children’s
Disability Services and at Employment Income Assistance.
During his time at ILRC, he facilitated various workshops,
Disability Awareness Training presentations and provided
information and resources to families, friends, consumers of
ILRC’s services and the community in general. While at the Royal Bank, Gary started off in the call centre providing
telephone banking services to customers and eventually
earned his Mutual Fund License moving into investments and
credit.
Gary is comfortable working with a variety of people and
brings a solid skill set to ImagineAbility.
In his spare time, you will see him supporting all of
Winnipeg’s great teams—the Blue Bombers, the Jets and the
Goldeyes. He is a bit of a sports fanatic! He also owns a trailer with friends and spends many weekends during
the summer out camping.
And then there is the travelling. Gary has travelled to various locales in Canada and the USA. This past January
saw his first trip to Cuba. That is a trip he hopes to repeat in the future.
Next time you are at Madison, you may want to stop by Gary’s office and share a warm welcome!

Now that winter is upon us…many are asking about the transportation policy. The provincial coordinator will cancel all
transportation when air temperature or wind chill reaches –45 at 6am at the Winnipeg Airport, ImagineAbility staff will be
here for those who still do come in to work on those days. Winnipeg Transit will run as normal but First Canada buses
will not be on the road.
What’s New at Madison?
HALLOWEEN SOCIAL
At the beginning of October we started a Book Club at William that has been
quite successful. We meet on Monday and Wednesday mornings and read. To
start, I chose the book Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It is a fictional novel
but has incorporated real events from the early 20th century. It’s about a young
man that discovers his parents have been killed in a car accident while he is
away at University. He is completely lost and feels he has no reason to stay
where he is. One night he hears a train barreling down the tracks and hops on.
Turns out to be a train carrying a circus. It’s told by Jacob as an aging old man
and is a beautifully written novel.
Book Club is casual and people are welcome to join as they choose although,
we have had regulars since the beginning; they really enjoy the atmosphere and
the story. I hope that Book Club continues as other programs resume and will
keep everyone posted on which novel will be read next.
Happy Reading,
Grace

The weather is getting colder and we still have a few more months of this to get through. Please
remember to dress for the weather and stay safe this winter.
