Capt (IN) Vinay Tiwari assumed the reigns of Sainik School Imphal as Principal on 09 April 2016. He got commissioned into the Education Branch of the Indian Navy on 05 August 1996. A Post Graduate in Mathematics, the Officer holds an MPhil degree in Oceanography. Capt (IN) Vinay Tiwari also has a plethora of knowledge and experience on Satellite Meteorology and Global Climate. Earlier, he served as an instructor in various training establishments of Indian Navy before being the Chief Instructor at the School of Naval Oceanology & Meteorology, Kochi. Apart from these, he has also served in off-shore billet viz INS Viraat as Meteorology & Oceanography Specialist Officer. On arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Vice Principal Sqn Ldr KV Sijomon, Administrative Officer Maj Vivek Kumar, I/C Senior Master Mr Md Abdul Haque and all staff of the school.

Maj General SS Mishra, GOC, 57 Mtn Div and Chairman, LBA visited the school on 29 April 2016. On arrival, he was received by the Principal Capt (IN) Vinay Tiwari. An alumnus of Sainik School Tilaiya, the General Officer reviewed the March Past of the cadets and graced the morning assembly. While addressing the cadets, the General Officer shared the memories about his alma-mater and fondly remembered his teachers at Sainik School Tilaiya.

Acknowledging the yeomen services rendered by the Sainik Schools towards nation building and the achievements of the cadets of various Sainik Schools, he remarked that the students of the school are not only excelling in Armed Forces, but also in all walks of life. During his day-long visit to the school, the General Officer interacted with the staff and cadets of the school. Acknowledging his high regards for the noble profession of teaching, he urged the faculty members to continue to strive for excellence and leave no stone unturned for the intellectual development of the cadets. To acknowledge the

endeavours of the school and to motivate the cadets, he announced institution of a ‘Red Shield Trophy’ and a ‘Cash Prize’ of Rupees Ten Thousand to the cadet coming first in the order of merit in entry into National Defence Academy. He also instituted the ‘GOC, 57 Mtn Div Trophy’ to recognize the team coming first in the sports events of the school.

Prior to visiting training facilities and other amenities inside the 268 Acre large campus of the school, the General Officer chaired the meeting of the Local Board of Administration (LBA) and reviewed the administrative aspects and academic performance of the school.VISIT OF BRIGADIER HS CHEEMABrig HS Cheema, Commander, 44 Mountain Brigade visited Sainik School Imphal on 27 June 2016. On his visit to the school, an interaction programme was organised at the Manekshaw Auditorium. During the interaction, Brigadier HS Cheema addressed the cadets and delivered a lecture

During the course of his lecture he educated the cadets of the school about various schemes for entry into NDA, selection procedure for Officers in Armed Forces and role of Armed Forces in a democracy.VISIT BY OFFICERS FROM 57 MTN DIVCol NS Bhadauria, Col Adm, HQ 57 Mtn Div and Col MM Singh, OIC Schools, HQ 57 Mtn Div paid a formal visit to the school on 12 February 2016. The officers visited the dormitories, classrooms and laboratories of the School. They also interacted with the cadets and educated the senior cadets about the job profiles of Officers in Defence Services.

67TH REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS

Sainik School Imphal celebrated 67th Republic Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Sqn Ldr KV Sijomon, Officiating Principal unfurled the national tri-color and addressed the cadets reminding them of the significance of the celebrations. Highlighting the objectives of the Indian Constitution, the Officiating Principal urged upon the young cadets to use their imagination, enthusiasm and energy to contribute towards one’s society. Giving them his Republic Day message, the Officiating Principal emphasised on fulfilling our commitment towards the nation to see overall development and progress.

Various activities like Speech Competition, Bara Khana and sweets distribution were organised on the occasion. Cadet Yashwant (Class XII) of Shivaji House and Cadet Donail (Class XII) of Raman House bagged first and second position respectively in the Speech Competition. The winners were awarded with certificates and prizes. Cadet Linthoi (Class VI) of Tikendrajit House was given special award for her speech with an aim to encourage the young cadets of the school to participate in such events.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

First Investiture Ceremony for the academic session 2016-17 was held on 25 April 2016 at the school Assembly Ground. On the occasion, cadets were given their ranks and badges by the school Principal Capt (IN) Vinay Tiwari, which was followed by the oath taking ceremony. The school appointments are given on rotation basis for six months so as to provide most of the opportunities to the cadets to imbibe leadership qualities.

SAINIK SCHOOLS TEACHERS’ WORKSHOP AT SAINIK SCHOOL BIJAPUR

Three teachers of the school namely Mr A Sochen, Asst Master in General Science, Mr P Rajeshwor, Asst Master in English and Mr M Rabi, Asst Master in Mathematics participated in the All India Sainik Schools Teachers’ Workshop conducted at Sainik School Bijapur, Karnataka from 02 May To 07 May 2016. The workshop was organised under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi. The main feature of the training programme was to make the teachers aware of various methods of teaching and to use them for an effective teaching-learning process. During the workshop the teachers got the opportunity to visit the famous World Heritage Sites, Ibrahim Rouza and Gol Gumbaz and learnt many valuable historical things.The School Band during the Republic Day Celebrations at

BLESSING CEREMONY‘Blessing Ceremony’ was organised at the Cadets’ Mess of the school to welcome the new class six cadets for the academic session 2016-17 on 22 June 2016. The school Principal, Vice Principal, I/C Senior Master, staff and parents graced the function. On the occasion, Sqn Ldr KV Sijomon, the Vice Principal addressed the parents and new entrants of the school. The Vice Principal, in his address, gave best wishes to the young cadets for their blissful stay at the school. He urged them to understand their duties as cadets of the school, so as to grow as good citizens of the country. A ‘Bara Khana’ was also organised as part of the occasion. In culmination of the function, the parents blessed their wards for their success in future.

LECTURE ON HYGIENE AND SANITATIONA lecture on personal hygiene and sanitation was delivered by the school Medical Officer, Dr Premjit to the Class VI cadets during an awareness programme conducted on 26 June 2016 in the Cadets’ Mess. The

main aim of the programme was to teach the young cadets of the school how to maintain personal hygiene to remain healthy and safe during their stay at the school. He also highlighted various common forms of diseases and their remedies by simple techniques such as having balanced diet, following physical exercises, washing hands regularly etc.

VISIT OF CLASS XII CADETS TO 57 MTN DIV

Cadets of Class XII went to 57 Mtn Div, Leimakhong under the guidance of Mr O Dheinachandra, Master in Physics along with Hav Ajay Kumar and CHM Dhanasekar K on 01 May 2016. During the visit the cadets got the opportunity to embark upon UHF Hill for trekking under the supervision of a team of Defence Officers led by Maj Hemant Sirohi. They also visited the shooting range and participated in a spot shooting competition conducted under the command of Captain Saha. gave away prizes to the winners of the competition. The programme culminated with a grand lunch in the Officers’ Mess. The school Principal Capt (IN) Vinay Tiwari and Administrative Officer Maj Vivek Kumar also were present during ibid visit.

GET-TOGETHER AT SAINIK HOUSE

The Principal’s Official Residence on 04 May 2016. The Vice Principal and the Administrative Officer also attended the same along with teachers. Main attraction of the party was interaction of the cadets with the officers and staff, where they shared their views and experiences about school curriculum and plans for the future. A grand dinner followed the interactive session, much to the delight of the cadets.

STAFF PICNIC

A picnic for the school staff and their family was organized at Uyok Ching, Kakching on 10 January 2016. Every year such picnics are organized by the school to provide an opportunity to the staff and their families to enjoy site seeing and also to make an exposure to the outside places in the far and nook corner of the state.

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION

Cadets of the school brought feathers of glory to the school by achieving highest position in the Essay Writing Competition organised by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of India. Cadet Arka Jyoti Majumder (Class X) secured Certificate of Excellence in the Hindi category while Cadet Wilson (Class X) got Certificate of Appreciation in the English category of the Essay Writing Competition. The topic of the competition was “Oil and Natural Gas Conservation”. The result of the competition which was conducted in the year 2015 was declared in May 2016.

FAREWELL OF CLASS XII

A befitting Farewell was given to the outgoing Class XII cadets of the school on 21 March 2016 at the Cadets’ Mess. During the luncheon, the cadets shared their experiences at the school, during the past seven years. Vice Principal, Sqn Ldr KV Sijomon addressed the cadets on the occasion. While wishing the outgoing cadets best for their future endeavors, the Vice Principal reminded them that the journey of life will reward only those who consistently work hard. He also gave away school mementos to each of the cadets as a token of love and care. Before departing their alma mater, the cadets splendidly marched towards the Martyrs’ Pillar and offered floral tributes to those who laid down their life in service of the nation. The Martyrs’ Pillar at SSI is erected in memory of those alumni who sacrificed their life in response to the call of the nation.
