Cancer Causes and Control, 1998, 9, p. 535

Editorial

With the second half of this volume of Cancer Causes and Control, we witness a transfer of the Journal to our new publisher Kluwer Academic Publishers. In addi- tion, the editorship passes from Dr. Richard Monson to me. Since 1990 Dr. Monson has worked tirelessly (and successfully) to build the Journal into a leader in the field. He worked with Brian MacMahon to launch the

Journal and subsequently served as its editor. Richard laid the foundation for the Journal and truly established it as a major source of high quality papers in cancer

epidemiology. Readership (and contributors) have been international throughout. We in the cancer epidemiol- ogy community owe a hearty 'thank you' to Richard for his wonderful efforts and to Joyce Walsh who assisted him in his editorial office. This issue of the Journal includes reflections on writing for publication that Richard has prepared, and which I trust will serve as a

guide to future contributors to CCC. Let me turn to the future. Cancer Causes and Control

has been established as a leading cancer epidemiology journal. It is my goal to broaden the scope of the Journal to also include the work translating our findings on

causes of cancer to prevention. This corresponds with the growing emphasis within the United States on

population prevention research within our National Cancer Institute funded cancer centers. Internationally, behavioral interventions and chemoprevention activities are also growing in importance. This gradual expansion, if successful, will lead to a larger journal (and hopefully more frequent issues). Such expansion will build on the strong base of high quality epidemiologic work that Richard has built, and that will remain the centerpiece of the Journal.

We are currently moving manuscript processing to the new system run by Kluwer Academic Publishers. The Journal contains details for manuscript submission, now through the Kluwer office in the Netherlands. It is our goal that with these changes fully implemented we will continue the tradition of rapid processing, decision

making and publication which have been a hallmark of Cancer Causes and Control since its inception.
