HIGHLAND MIST TRIO CELTIC BAND
FRIDAY, MARCH 13TH 7:00 PM
GRAND BALLROOM
Let’s welcome back to Epworth, Highland Mist as they help us celebrate March and St. Patrick’s Day.
The members of Highland Mist met at church where they were asked to play a few different events together. They all love to play Celtic music, so in 2015 the trio Highland Mist was born. Now siblings Steven and Rachel, along with Tracey, spread their love of Celtic music with audiences everywhere. They play a wide variety of instruments including flute, guitar, violin, mandolin, penny whistle, cello, hammer dulcimer and djembe.

GATHERING 10:00 AM, PROGRAM 10:30 AM
REDBUD ROOM
ALL MEN INVITED TO ATTEND
We are in for a special treat this month! Our neighbor
and friend Carol Sinnreich will be bringing her beautiful
fabric art and story to us. Creating images of the world around her has been part of
her life since childhood living in upstate New York along the shores of Lake Ontario.
Working with fabric, drawing, and painting led her to gain a B.F.A. from the Visual Arts
School at Syracuse University. And the romance with fabric continues to influence her
creative perspective and artistic endeavors. Each original design is cut from hundreds
of individual fabric pieces and stitched together to create recognizable textile
illustrations. Carol is an award-winning textile artist who continues to participate in
national and international shows. She is delighted to share her perspective on
quilt-making with her presentation of “Oklahoma Hold Ups.” Come and be amazed!!!!

OMRF PRESENTATION
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25TH
2:00 PM
COFFEE LOUNGE
OMRF began in 1946 by a group of Oklahoma physicians and business leaders who saw the potential that biomedical research held. On Aug. 28 of that year, Oklahoma’s Secretary of State granted the charter of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. OMRF now employs more than 400 staff members who study cancer, heart disease, autoimmune disorders and diseases of aging. Their discoveries have yielded hundreds of patents and a pair of life-saving drugs now available in hospitals and clinics around the world. This is a wonderful foundation located here in Oklahoma City which provides extraordinary discoveries and lifesaving research.
The speaker will be Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation scientist Dr. Mike Beckstead. Dr. Beckstead has spent two decades studying dopamine, a chemical responsible for voluntary movement and the perception of reward in the brain. During his career, his work has largely focused on Parkinson’s disease—when too little dopamine is present—and drug addiction, where there is too much of the chemical. He hopes to gain a better understanding of how neurons in the brain age in order to develop treatment options in the earliest stages of Parkinson’s disease, before symptoms become debilitating. Beckstead joined OMRF’s Aging & Metabolism Research Program from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2017. After his presentation there will be time for Q & A.
