Our Art leaders, Natalie T and Arthur L did a wonderful job with their speech to open the show and set the scene for the three days of viewing. The work on display from all year levels was of an extremely high standard, showcasing the artistic skills and talents of our students. The Hall became the Greythorn Art Gallery which presented a visual feast for all who attended. Our Visual Arts teacher, Miss Latorre, put a huge amount of time into creating this event and I thank her sincerely for the many, many hours of hard work that went into this. She was also supported by all the staff and many parents who assisted with labelling and displaying the work. Thank you to all who assisted. A great team effort! Election Day BBQ & Cake Stall Despite Saturdays inclement weather in the morning, the PFA sausage sizzle and cake stall at the polling booth was extremely successful. Over $1600 was raised on the day which was an outstanding result. Thank you to all members of the PFA who organised and worked on the stall during the day. Your hard work is very much appreciated in raising these additional funds for the school. Bike It Congratulations to the Year 5 students who competed at last weeks Bike It event that is jointly run by the Citys of Whitehorse and Boroondara and was held at Elgar Park. The students competed in a series of bike handling skills and tests throughout the day, accumulating points for the team along the way. This was a wonderful opportunity for them to participate in a team event and put to the test the many skills that they have learnt and developed this year during their Term 3 Bike Education program. The students competed against 11 other school and placed third overall at the end of the day. An outstanding result from them all with this being the first time that the school had entered a team in this event. The students were presented with a bronze medal each by the mayor of Whitehorse, Councillor Bill Bennett. Thank you to Miss Knell for her ongoing coordination and training of the team and for providing them with this wonderful opportunity to participate in this unique event. Thank you also to Miss Wallace for attending on the day to assist with the team. She also needs to be congratulated for proudly riding back up Clifton St when returning to school with the students! 2019 Class Placements With Term 4 disappearing very quickly, now is a good time to start discussing with your child/children about their class placement in 2019. The teachers spend many, many hours ensuring that all students are placed appropriately and specific to individual needs. Children build resilience and other skills such as social competencies by their experiences in life. Building a positive attitude in your child/children in relation to the transition into a new class and looking forward to the new year ahead can assist greatly in this process.

2019 Leadership Speeches The Year 5 students will be presenting their speeches for leadership roles in 2019 tomorrow morning. Each year I look forward to listening to the speeches as every student who presents does an outstanding job. It is a great experience for them to speak in public with speeches that they have written and prepared themselves. I wish all the students well and know that they will all do themselves proud. Great Greythorn Bike Ride It was disappointing for the staff, students and parents involved in the Great Greythorn Bike Ride to be forced to postpone the event last week, but a wise decision given the very bleak weather last Friday. The ride is now going ahead on Thursday with favourable conditions forecast for both days. We wish everyone well and look forward to hearing about their experiences. Christmas Concert The staff are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Greythorn Christmas Concert on Thursday December 13 on the Tiger turf. The concert commences at 5:30pm but we encourage you to arrive earlier to enjoy a picnic dinner with your family. All students from Prep to Year 6 will be performing on stage as well as the Senior choir. A coffee and ice-cream van will be onsite for those wishing to purchase refreshments. Upcoming Events A reminder about events scheduled over the next two weeks. Monday Dec 3 – French Day Tues Dec 4 – Year 2-6 Swimming Carnival & 2019 Prep Orientation Day Wednesday Dec 5 – Year 6 Market Day Thursday Dec 6 – P-6 Musica Viva Incursion Tuesday Dec 11 – Parent Helpers Morning Tea - 10:30am Hall Thursday Dec 13—Christmas Cencert 5.30pm

The past 2 weeks I assisted and witnessed the amazing Art Show in the hall. It looked fantastic to have all the artworks hung in the hall in their year levels and themes. Claire and I attended a Pick my Project workshop with parent members of the team and looked at the future direction for the funding. We had Tech Kids at school several times delighting the students in STEM learning. The Preps had a blast at the zoo yesterday. Helen Karvela has been working hard with pre service teachers from Deakin, mentoring and assisting them to improve their practice during their time here, through a new model provided by Deakin. The Prep team have been busy organising transition for 2018, as well as preparing and planning for 2019 transition as well. 1:1 @ Greythorn 2019 In preparation for 1:1 next year Greythorn is investing in large TVs in every classroom with wireless access between student devices. These TVs have been delivered and are currently being installed in every classroom across the school. TVs have been chosen for classrooms as the screen is much sharper than a projector and nothing has to be replaced during its lifetime. Greythorn has a new purchasing portal to support the implementation of 1:1 devices in years 3 & 4 in 2019. When you click on the link https://www.jbeducation.com.au/byod/

Enter the school code and you are in the Greythorn portal School Code: GPS2019

Google Apps For Education (GAFE)

An important part of our 1:1 program in years 3 & 4, as well as our students in years 5 & 6, will be to allow students to use their iPad or classroom device, in order to access a range of Google Apps. These apps will support them to become digitally literate by learning to create content, publish, curate and share that content. Apps including Google Drive (curate), Docs (word processing), Slides (presentations), Gmail, Photos (store/share), Youtube (consume/share) and Classroom (share/communicate). The important reasons to include GAFE at school

Collaboration - ability to work with others on the same document/presentation at the same time/anywhere

Data is safe - you can’t lose content Repository for data - all content can be managed in one place including photos and videos Anytime access Device agnostic - you can retrieve data from any internet enabled device Student Responsibilities

When using digital technologies, students continue to be responsible for their behaviour as outlined in

our school’s Acceptable Use Agreement. The main themes of that agreement are:

● Communicate respectfully

● Protect personal information

● Look after yourself and others

OSHClub News—Program Update—Before School/After School Care Program

Dear parents and families, Hope you are having a great week! We are disappointed to say that one of our permanent staff members, Amelia, has finished at OSH-Club to prepare for her teaching position starting next year, we wish her all the best and appreciate her commitment and hard work she put into our program! This week we will be using our imagination! Some of the activities offered to the children this week include button necklaces, AFL posters, straw painting and puzzle making! Some other activities will be book reviews, toy car races, balloon football and two leg races! With the beautiful weather coming out at this time of the year children are enjoying the extended time outside to play sports they enjoy such as cricket and football whilst also playing in the sand pit and on the playground! Children that wish to stay inside enjoy maximising the space left by those outside to play with our many new board games! We have also made a new craft wall; the children are enjoying making arts and crafts to display on this wall! We are experiencing a jump in the number on walk-ins (children without a booking). We are re-quired by the Department of Education to have one staff member to fifteen children. We understand that unforeseen circumstances mean that children may need to come when not booked in, if you could contact us as soon as circumstances chance that would be greatly appreciated. We are also required to follow up children that are booked in and do not come to the program, please let us know via phone call or text message if your child will not be attending. It is coming into the time of the year when we look forward to new children attending and we are excited to meet the new preps starting next year! To those with new students wanting to attending OSHClub you are welcome with open arms to come into our room during the hours we are here, 7-9am and 3-6pm, to meet the coordination, myself Lucas. We will be able to discuss the program in depth whilst answering any questions you may have, we would also like to help with the transition for your child! Please ensure we are bringing and wearing hats to Oshclub!!!! Have a great week and we can’t wait to see you soon! Kind regards, Lucas
