EDITION 13 19TH JUNE 2020
We are urworth Welcome to the thirteenth edition of our newsletter. As usual
there’s a mix of school information, news and activities in this
edition – if you have suggestions of things you’d like to see
included just let us know.
You can also follow @HurworthSchool if you are old enough to
have an account but please make sure you follow all the safety
rules you’ve learnt in school if you are on social media or
gaming platforms. Remember that if you are on social media you shouldn’t be making friend requests
to any member of staff at school.
Now that you’ve all been learning at home for a while the routine of this should be familiar to you all now so just a few reminders this week following the latest round of work which was set on Monday.
Remember if you need paper copies of your work then please just call school and let us know – you can do this at any time if your circumstances change (e.g. your laptop breaks of your parents/carers need it for their work now). If you send work back to us once you’ve done it then it will be passed on to your teachers so you can get some feedback
If you are working on Teams and get stuck with anything then the link below is to the user guide on the school website you were all sent when we first closed:- https://hurworth.swiftacademies.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2020/03/Microsoft-Teams-Guide-2020-V1.pdf Remember that when you press ‘Hand in’ you need to actually have completed your work – some people pressed hand in as soon as the work was set on Monday so you wouldn’t have had time to do it!
Your teachers are posting messages to you on Teams when the work is set and are also contacting you via email – if you need anything e.g. the work is too easy and you need an extension task or it’s too hard and you need some support then just email your teacher directly and they will get back to you as quickly as possible. If you’re not sure of their email address just start typing their name in and it will automatically come up
EDITION 13 19TH JUNE 2020
Remember this is optional not a ‘set’ piece of work but it will be really helpful for you when we do come back; this
fortnight’s challenge was Revision Clocks and there will be a new one next week
While the school is closed this is a great opportunity for all those of you in Year 10 to develop your independent learning skills to support you in preparing for your exams next year. Mrs Reilly will be setting you tasks to complete based around a different revision strategy each fortnight to help you build up your range of strategies. You will be sent a PowerPoint explaining the strategy along with some tasks from different subjects. The more photos you send in or work you hand in when we return to school the more prizes you can win! More details of this will be given in the fortnightly email which will only go to Year 10 students on Monday.
All of your teachers are really proud of the amazing work you’ve been doing
during lockdown – many of you have put a great deal of effort into the tasks
set and have gone above and beyond what was asked, well done. Over the
next week you’ll be starting to receive some Praise Postcards in recognition
of this so watch out for them dropping into your inboxes!
EDITION 13 19TH JUNE 2020
Take a look at this amazing interactive Royal Society of
Chemistry Periodic table. Click on any element and
discover its history, as well as its uses and properties.
Make sure you don’t miss the best bit in the video
section where chemists show amazing reactions and
pass on many surprising facts. You can even download
this to your phone.

There were no crowds, not even the Queen watching the horse racing at Royal Ascot this week. Usually Ascot is full of racegoers sporting extravagant, exotic hats. This year top milliners have made more than 40 rainbow-themed hats to be auctioned to raise money for NHS and carers charities. Take a look at the extravagant creations and chose your favourite on: https://www.ascot.co.uk/millinery-auction
A quirk of perfect timing produced some
amazing weather this week. The sun was at
the perfect angle to view lightning produced
by electrical charges in the atmosphere and a
rainbow from the sunny spells in-between
localised showers. See more pictures and a
double rainbow at:

If you are in Year 10 then you should have already
received your mentoring appointment information –
it has been lovely to see those of you who were in on
Wednesday to Friday this week and everyone else
will have your appointment next week either in
person or via Teams. If for any reason you can’t make
your appointment remember to let school know!
EDITION 13 19TH JUNE 2020
Last week we told you about the Mass Dance project. Remember that the dance has been broken up into small segments which will be posted out on social media every Monday building up to the complete routine for the last week of term so if you’ve already learnt last week’s steps then you need to check out this week’s too! The segments of dance will be posted on the Darlington School Sport Partnership Facebook page and twitter @DarlingtonSSP .
Still on the theme of using clothes this one
needs an odd sock! Don’t throw that odd
sock in the bin. Get creative and turn it into a
crazy glove puppet like the one in the video:

Want to create your own style for free. Take a look in your wardrobe and rather than throwing away your unwanted clothes get creative and upcycle. A new look can be achieved by getting crafty and altering, combining garments or adding some embellishment. Update a t shirt or make some new shorts from a pair of jeans. You don’t need a sewing machine just a needle and thread and an idea. You can find help at these websites: https://www.loveyourclothes.org.uk/videos/upcyc

Please check with your parents/carer before you
