Introduction

We sincerely hope you had a lot of fun the past fewmonths with your hobby ‘ photography ‘. Mostprobably you have lots of fantastic pictures on yourPC , which give you pleasure when looking back onthem. Myself I have not made much pictures anymore , as my computer crashed and so I was unableto relook at any of them. When this happens , andyou’ve lost quite a big deal of photos of the pastseveral years , it hits you hard. Real hard. Then thehunt is open for specialized companies , good inrecovering such damaged data. But needless to saythat such operations will hit your money bag veryhard. For sure.

However meanwhile, we ( editor office ) were notresting ! You will notice when reading a few pagesin our magazine. As you soon will notice, we havegiven the journal a more modern look and adaptedthe lay-out. Reason for this was the upcomingbirthday ( 1 Year ) , which we like to celebrate withthese few adjustments !! We surely hope ourreaders and visitors will be amused by this. Thesechanges were not from an amazing size but thejournal looks a little bit more ‘cool ‘. In this editionwe show you once more several works fromphotographers and models , who did asks us topublish their best arts and portfolios.

Further more there will be a big deal of architecturalpictures in it. Those photos were all taken duringour sightseeing trip at Rotterdam with some of theAPL members.

And of course as usual we did include our contest,lyrics about photography,and a bulky calendar. Thisnew APL magazine contents once more a whole lotof beautiful and lovely things. We wish you all verymuch reading- , but mostly watching-pleasure.

My pictures will never represent the exact reality. A subject candraw my attention through its shape, charisma, their colours andlight expression, but mostly by their symbolic expression.

Sometimes I surch for details , very often for extreme details , whothan will result in an extreme abstract image. In other situations, Ido use blur diafragma and movement to hide disturbing details , inorder to become an overall excellent impression of the shot. Lightand colour are a constance in my pictures.

I m aming each time for images with poor colourpackage, mostlyone or very few contrasting colours. These colours must bedominant and must draw the viewers attention immediately. Thecolour materializes often out of the brightness itself. I do not usewhite light on a coloured surface , but on the opposite I use colouredlight which gives an extra alienation of the shooted subect. Thedifferences in the colour-characters and -temparatures of thelightsources will create the colour-tints and -contrasts.

In his free time , Jan is passionated with everythingwhich is linked to photography. I started withphotography at the age of 14 years. The technicalas well as the material baggage did had myattention. I’ve done almost everything : black /white , color , development, demonstrations ofpictures combined with sound, …..I do have a graduate degree in photography. Afterseveral years of observing and experimenting withseveral technics and subjects, I did explore in smallsteps the great force of this medium ,to expressmyself through images and gain a betterselfrealisation.My pictures will never represent the exact reality.A subject has my attention through its shape,charisma, their colours and light expression. Lightand colour are a constance in my pictures.I m aming each time for images with poorcolourpackage, mostly one or very few contrastingcolours. A good example of my work was the seriesof pictures, called “ Up into the Sky “, and whichwas pubished in the magazine two years ago. Itshowed the force of light in a metropolitanlandscape. “Fotocirquit Vlaanderen”( anorganisation who offers photographers theopportunity to show their work to a biggeraudience ) did select this sequence. That way thesequence was presented at 18 different culturalorganisations in Vlaanderen , during the past 20months.I’m also, besides being a photographer, an activemember of several societies. I’m a board member

at the CvB ( Centrum voor Beeldexpressie ), andmoderator / co-organizer of “Viewpoint” ( CvBmeetings about photography ). During thesemeetings ( which will be taken place once a yearin all departments of Flanders ), threephotographers ( professional or amateur ) willexpose their work , in drawing the attention to thecontent. This way the audience will acquire moreapprehension of the person behind the camera,and answers to their specific choices.I’m also a guestspeaker and / or member of thejury at several photographic societies. I’ m alsoorganiser of the societies “viZie en BOAphotoconeXXion “ in which we discuss and critizethe works of 10 different photographers, on aregular basis. The technical and theoretical aspectsof photography or surely not the highlights. Weare more concerned about the combination of theselected choices and the force of the images. Wecreate pictures from “the heart”, situated withina wide culture of images.Every day a photographer must ‘ train himself ‘ ,just like an athlete. Every day I m doing something, linked to photography. On a regular base I visitphoto-expositions at home and abroad.

Yes, photography is my real addiction !

This photo-exposition was created by using several photoseries.You will enter a world of darkness, but also and maybe mostly , a world of brightness.Light that, little by little, reveals parts of the darkness , and as such does give the viewer the opportunityto catch the securities,little by little.There is also a world of imagination and emotion : intimacy with a frisky blink of an eye.As in all my works , color will claim the leading role. The light will show the desired emphasisses, andwill hide all other surplus.

Married to Jurgen Huyghe. At the same time I metJurgen, I also did get to know Thomas , who alsowas a photographer. I always had an admaritationfor photography , but due to other circumstancesI never forced myself further in that direction. Butyeah … one let to another. We were all three closefriends and loved to get out in the world , eachwith his own camera. No high technic ones … justbasic . Than, after Thomas did bought his firstmirrorreflexcam , and after letting us experiencewith it , it was a real small step for buying our ownones. And not very much later it was birthday forour photographic trio …. Juthosa.While Jurgen and Thomas did get addicted tomodel-photography, I was always interested inmore natural images. One must adapt to thespecific situation , one has to play with theavailable light. By making artificial photos, thephotographer has control about all of these things.That is why I prefer nature, landscapes , urbanviews, architeture , street views and so on. As longI m on the move it is ok. Once inside the photo lab, I work on product-photography.Because of my interest in the WW1 history , Istarted about 2 years ago , in making pictures ofthis worldwar landscapes. Many of my imageswere shot in black / white, as this colornuancereflects specific that period. Also , in using thatoption, I try to catch the audience directly on the

image , without disturbance of colors. Personalopinion of course.On going to events , you will always find me witha camera on my back , trying to shoot specificphotos , which I will share to the public later on.Whenever I get the chance to show my work toothers, through an expo or other facilities , I mglad to be a participant. For instance , in themonth October you ll find me at “ Buren bijkunstenaars “.And as per early this year I do have my ownproject ….. Imago gemma. A cooperationbetween Tine Mestdagh ( jewel designer ) andmyself. She creates jewelry , based on the shapes, details, colors, structures …., find in my pictures.

There is no special theme required, but pictures have to be conform with ethical rules.

We do not need porn ( will all be refused ), but artistic photopraphy. Models must have minimum ageof 18 years , and photographer aswell as the model must confirm their agreement for publication.

APL-magazine cannot be held responsible for false and / or incorrect usage of the pictures andadvertisements.

Based on the yearly tradition , the APL- Group did organise a photographic journey.We choosed Rotterdam , because this city offers lots of possibilities in making architectural pictures.The total day was splitted up in three parts. Urban-photography had to be done in the early hours.The afternoon and a part of the evening was spend on shooting pictures of the famous high buildinglandscape at the “ Kop van het Zuid “.Later that evening and during a big part of the night we experimented on night-photography.This cityprovided us with beautifull sites of waterchannels and illuminated office buildings.The crowns jewel of course was the famous “Erasmusbrug”. This particular landscape has been frameddigitally a dozen times.Satisfacted and tired from the long walks , we went back home late that night, hoping that among theshooted images some would be “beauties”.Few of those pictures we have published, to give you all an idea of what that journey had to offer.

The topic for this edition is “ URBEX “ , and this in the most widest sense of the word.

Everyone can and may send their photographic works and / or articles to the editorial office.After investigation, the management will then decide whether the work(s) will be published or not.

Photographer(s) :The pictures need to be send in a ZIP- or RAR- coded file. Or if possible we prefer transactions throughthe “ WeTransfer” software program.

A minimum of 6 pictures and a maximum of 12 pictures is required for consideration.The picture’s format must have a maximum of 1024 pix over longest length ( horizontal frame ) and 768pix over highest length ( vertical frame )Software program type : JPGPictures have to be delivered in their specific serial follow order, if that is required.A title and a short intro story , concerning the photographic work , is absolutely required and must beadded in a Word- document.

Model(s):Identical as above but the portfolio has to be accompanied with a short description about yourself (experience , biography , model desk , information , links …. )Before publication of the portfolio we request a confirmation of the model’s age ( min 18 years ). If ageis less than 18 years, an admittance of parents is required.

Artist(s):Identical as for photographers but the pictures have to be illustrated in a word document with title ,location , photographer, marks , and so on.We prefer works which are not yet or just partial shown on the internet ( such as facebook , instagram, google , model mayham , and so on )

APL magazine cannot guarantee that all submissions will be published. This is pending on the contentsof the next edition of the journal.The portfolios, series, documentations and single pictures may not be issued or used by third parties.All participants will remain responsible for their own publication.
