    1. After cutting out the fish, slide a paperclip on each card. 2. Then use either a large tongue depressor, wooden dowel or even an

    Fishing for Words

Directions: Each time that you catch a fish, read the word that is written on it, spell it and then write it below.

  • Assembly tip: For extra durability, print the game on cardstock and laminate. To make game pieces, cut out the camping supplies and clip them with small binder clips. Then squeeze the metal tabs to detach them from the clip like this:

    1. There are two versions of this game. In version one, the player will place his token on the starting line. When you say, “go”, he will move his token along the path, reading each word in order. You will time him to see how long it takes to read all 18 words. The goal is to read the words faster and faster each time he completes the race.

    2. In version two of the game, two players place their tokens on the starting line. Player One rolls the die and moves his token to the corresponding space on the mat. He reads the word out loud, then spells it and writes it on his record sheet.

Player Two then rolls the die, moves his token to the matching spot and reads and writes the word. Players continue taking turns rolling and reading. The first player to land on finish is the winner.

  • Assembly tip: For extra durability, print the game on cardstock and laminate.

There are two versions of this game:

    1. In version one, a solo player looks at the sunglass pieces and matches them by color {red to red, orange to orange, etc.} When he is finished, he writes the two words that are written on each pair on his record sheet.

    2. In version two of the game, two players mix up the cards and spread them out face down on a flat surface. Player One turns over two cards and reads the words out loud. If the sunglass pieces are the same color, he keeps the pair and turns over two more cards. If they are not the same color, he flips the cards back over and it becomes Player Two’s turn to flip over two cards. Play continues until all cards have been matched up. Players then write the matching pairs on their own record sheets.
