St. Peter’s Healthcare System Announces a New Bereavement Support Group

More than 8 people die from drug overdoses in N.J. each day. In 2010, that number was 2. The New Jersey Department of Health Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services of Middlesex County 2017 Substance Abuse Overview has indi-

cated that alcohol is the number one substance abuse in Middlesex County. Heroin a close second. Recently, St. Peter’s Medical Center Sports Medicine Institute, has announced the start of a free support group for those who have lost a loved to a substance abuse addiction. For more information, dates and meeting times, please contact the Care Coordination Department at 732-745-8522.

Edison Senior Center Now Offers Notary Public Services

A Notary Public is appointed by the State of NJ to serve the public as an impartial witness related to the signing of important documents. A Notary's duty is to screen the signers for their true identity, their willingness to sign without duress or intimidation, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction. Some notarizations also require the Notary to put the signer under an oath, declaring under penalty of perjury that the information contained in a document is true and correct. Property deeds, wills and powers of attor-ney are examples of documents that commonly require a Notary. A photo ID is required (driver’s license or passport) and must contain the individuals signature. An Edison Senior ID card will not serve as proper identification for notary services.

To obtain services by the Senior Center Notary Public, please call 732-248-7345 to make an appointment.

Services are available Monday through Friday 9 am to 4 pm

NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Next-of-Kin Registry

The Next-of-Kin Registry is a statewide, web-based system that allows individuals ages 14 and older to voluntarily submit and maintain

emergency contact information through the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. The registry will be used by law enforcement officials to locate designated emergency contacts in the event that an individual is involved in a motor vehicle accident that renders him/her unable to communicate. The registry is not public record and only law enforcement officials will have access to the information.

Any individual who has a legally NJ issued driver’s license, probationary license, learner’s permit, non-driver ID card or other MVC issued permit or license authorizing an individual to operate a motor vehicle or vessel (boat) may utilize the registry. Those as young as 14 years old may utilize the registry if they apply for a non-driver ID card.

To enroll, log onto the registry through the MVC website (www.njmvc.gov) using the number on your driver's license, permit, or non-driver ID card. You may input up to two individuals as an emergency contact. It is the sole responsibility of all individuals who utilize the registry to ensure the accuracy of the information they submit and to keep it up-to-date. Emer-gency contact information may be updated at any time.

NJ Motor Vehicle Commission offers Veteran’s Honorary Designa-

tion

The State of New Jersey would like to thank our military veterans who proudly served to protect our freedom with a spe-cial designation created for display on a NJ Driver’s license or non-driver ID card. On July 1, 2016, the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) began issuing a permanent imprinted veteran designation on driver’s license or non-driver ID card.

If you wish to obtain the imprinted veteran designation and you do not have a veteran designation sticker, you must renew in person at any MVC agency and pro-vide the following: ● 6 points of identification AND proof of address ● Completed driver’s license or non-driver ID application ● An original or photocopy of your honorable military discharge which can be any of the following documents: - DD0214 or DD-215 OR - Official County Issued Veteran ID Card OR - Federal Activation orders showing service under Title 10, section 672 or section 12301 of the United States code; OR - Your report of Separation of Active Duty (honorably discharged or General Discharge under Honorable Conditions prior to 1950).

Get fit and healthy

Grab your walking shoes,

Just walk at Menlo Park Mall

Menlo Park Mall welcomes you to walk the mall. Enjoy walking at your own pace in an enclosed climate-controlled environment, Monday through Friday on the lower level between the hours of 7:30am and 10:00am. A few fit tips to share:

Use Entrance A located on the lower level near Rainforest and/or Entrance B located on the lower level near Work Out World. The distance from Rainforest Café to Nordstrom is equivalent to 1/2 mile. Walking is an ideal cost effective way to slim down without straining your joints or muscles. Walking is a great form of exercise. It's low impact, provides a cardiovascular workout if you walk with a pace that increases your heart rate and burns calories about 100 calories for every

10 minutes of brisk walking. Walking can improve your mental health by reducing stress. All forms of exercise increase levels of brain chemicals that boost mood, but the repetitive movements of walking also calm the body, reducing stress. So grab a friend and walk the mall. Enjoy the changing displays or a cup of coffee after your walk. And remember before starting any form of exercise it is best to check with your physician.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Offering Lower Prices on Medigap
