Trump began tweeting before the election was called that it was “a total sham and a travesty.” After news outlets projected that Obama won the elec-tion, Trump tweeted, “Well, back to the drawing board!” He posted more than 10 angry tweets, declaring “our nation is a once great nation divided” and “the world is laughing at us.” He encouraged a “revolution in this country.”

“The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy,” fumed the celebrity mo-gul. Williams showed some of Trump’s tweets on air, saying he had “driven well past the last exit to relevance and veered

into something closer to irresponsible.”Trump tweeted a retort on Wednesday

saying Williams “knows that I think his newscast has become totally boring so he took a shot at me last night.” He added, “Wouldn’t you love to have my ratings?”

He also deleted some of Tuesday night’s tirade, including tweets calling for revolution and incorrectly saying that Obama had lost the popular vote. In a new tweet Wednesday, he said the election was “the Republicans to win” but that Republican Mitt Romney hadn’t connected with voters.

Trump endorsed Romney in the presidential race and garnered publicity last year for questioning whether Obama was born in the U.S. and eligible to be president.

“The Celebrity Apprentice” star recently promised to contribute $5 mil-lion to a charity of Obama’s choice if the president released his college and passport records.

NEW YORK — Lady Gaga is donating $1 million to the Red Cross to aid those af-fected by Superstorm Sandy. The New York-born singer posted on her blog Wednes-day that she is pledging the money on behalf of her par-ents and sister. She also said she “would not be the woman or artist that I am today” if it weren’t for places like the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn.

She writes: “Thank you for helping me build my spirit. I will now help you rebuild yours.”

Superstorm Sandy made landfall more than a week ago, killing many of its more than 100 victims in New York City and New Jersey and leaving millions without power. Lady Gaga added that New York is a place full of “relentless ambition.”

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Most beautiful to see are the girls in their colorful attire, carrying offerings, arrangements of all kinds fruits and colored cakes, to the Temple. Every visitor admires the grace with which the carry their load on their heads.

These phenomena indicate that crimes spreading to students are progressively alarming so that they must get a more serious attention from school and Bali Education Agency and Education Agency of the regencies/munici-pality throughout Bali, including their parents.

Contacted on Wednesday (Nov 7), two education observers, namely Putu Rumawan Salain, and Putu Sarjana claimed to be sad when reading the news in the media that revealed the crime committed by teenagers having the status as students. Both as-sessed that juvenile delinquency acts in Bali had now been getting more alarming. They were no lon-ger limited to commit a mischief act such as quarrel among the students, but had been entering into the world of crime.

“These phenomena should be examined seriously by all par-ties. Just imagine, the junior high school children are arguably still inexperienced teenager, but have dared to commit such determined act,” said Rumawan Salain.

Though not willing to convict the delinquency leading to crime as evidence of school failure to build the character of students, Rumawan Salain hoped the school could reap valuable lessons from case to further intensify the su-pervision. One of the solutions offered was that the school was asked to increase the supervision against the students by fostering home visit.

Such home visit did not only target the problematic students but also applied to all students. “In this context, every teacher is

worthy to be given a responsi-bility to develop and oversee 10 to 20 students. By doing so, the problematic students and those potentially having a problem can be detected earlier so they would not get mired in committing a crime,” he said.

Family milieu

Meanwhile, Putu Sarjana re-minded that the development of children was also greatly influenced by the milieu, in-cluding the family and outside the school. In this context, the lecturer of the Hindu University of Indonesia did not agree if the mistake related to the emergence of crime among the students was blamed entirely on the school. Conversely, he requested in order the parental and public control should also be improved as well as both parties should take more roles to supervise and nurture the children. Added, the leaders being very close to people such as hamlet chief, chief of custom-ary village and village apparatus, including police officer were also asked to participate in supervis-ing and nurturing children so that their association was on the right track.

Similar opinion was expressed by the Head of Bali Education Agency, A.A. Ngurah Gde Su-jaya. He affirmed the supervision of all parties should be enhanced so that students would not com-mit unlawful acts. “In this case, the role is not only taken by schools. Tighter supervision is obliged to be made by family,” said Sujaya.

According to Sujaya, schools had limited time to supervise the students. Children spent most of their time at home and in the com-munity. Therefore, parents and the milieu should monitor them more optimally. He emphasized the criminal cases committed by a few students did not reflect the failure of schools in building their students because teachers or schools could not monitor them around the clock.

“By all means, the responsibil-ity of supervision against the stu-dent after school lies in the hands of parents, families and commu-nities. Moreover, the involvement of students in the crimes mostly takes place at night, where it has become the responsibility of parents and families. Neverthe-less, I also expect the school to provide guidance specifically for the students getting involved in crimes. As such, student will be aware of their duties as a student and realize what they have done is a big mistake,” he said.

When contacted separately, Deputy Principal of SMAN 3 Denpasar senior high school, in charge of Student Affairs, I Ketut Arya Putra, said his party attempted to prevent the students from engaging in crime through the implementation of extra tight school discipline. Until now, he said, no students were involved in crime acts. Besides, his party also routinely held a raid at least once a month, controlling the discipline of students in terms of their attires and belongings in anticipation of the possibil-ity of students bringing along prohibited items to school such as drugs, alcohol, pornographic VCDs, sharp weapons and other prohibited items. Specifically to prevent the dissemination of pornographic products through cellular phone, the school also imposed a ban on bringing cellu-lar phone to school for students.

If problematic students were detected both academically and behaviorally, he said, they would

INvOLvEMENT of teenagers that are incidentally still students lately caused many parties to get really startled and alarmed. In the last case, two students of private junior high school in Denpasar and Badung namely yv, 14, and DI, 14, were forced to deal with police as alleged to conspire of stealing a motorcycle. No less surprising, a junior high school student in Bangli, IMB, 15, was also arrested by police as being suspected of stealing money in the neighbor’s house. Earlier, some news on crime committed by students has also been reported by mass media in Bali again and again.

receive intensive guidance from Counseling Agency (BK) to resolve the problems faced. If the issue was considered very serious, school authority would summon the parent or representa-tive of the student to discuss the problem and find out the solu-tions to the problem.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Internal Students’ Organization (OSIS) of SMAN 3 Denpasar senior high school, Dek Lanang Sanjivani, said his party was al-ways involved in the regular raid carried by the school to maintain the discipline of students. In addition, his party was actively involved in mediating the group of students in SMAN 3 Denpasar assessed to potentially lead to schism. With such pattern, his party hoped the harmony among the students could be maintained without having to be separated by inter-class egoism, majors, and so on. “So far, we are very harmo-nious and remain to uphold the school discipline,” he said. Bali Post MANGUPURA — Commander

of the National Armed Forces (TNI) Agus Suhartono and National Police Chief Timur Pradopo made a visit to monitor the security pre-paredness of the Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) V. As scheduled, the event will be opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday (Nov 8).

The Commander accompanied by the National Police Chief and the TNI lineups inspected all the rooms in the BICC building at the Westin Hotel, Nusa Dua, such as the main building used for the opening of BDF in Nusa Indah Hall. Similarly, they also checked some rooms used for the venue of bilateral meeting such as the press conference to toilet were inseparable from the observa-tion of the military and police leader of the country.

“Security of all the state guests has been ready, ranging from the pick-up service to the arrival prepa-ration at hotel and implementation of the BDF. Everything is okay,” said Agus Suhartono amidst his monitor-ing to readiness of the event in Nusa Dua, Bali, Wednesday (Nov 7/11).

It was said that personnel of Bali Police and National Armed Forces had well planned the security systems, including some routes of state guest evacuation in case of emergency. His party had anticipated the security more strictly so that the escape of sweeper

coming into the ring one as in the implementation of the ASEAN Fair 2011 would not happen again.

“It was a valuable experience for us and we have anticipated it. Hopefully, the undesirable thing will not happen again. In terms of security, it has been managed and organized. For instance, if there is something to escape, all have been checked and designed properly,” he explained.

Bali Democracy Forum is an annu-al cooperation forum of democratic countries in Asia regularly held in Bali. The forum aims to strengthen the capacity of democracy and democratic institutions through discussions among the countries. Besides, it also focuses on the disclosure of information, national and regional security issues as well as the equitable economic development.

This annual event was centered in the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Nusa Dua. Amidst the BDF, the president was also sched-uled to hold a bilateral meeting with the leaders of the BDF participating countries, including President of the Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak, Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra, and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Likewise, the president would meet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghani-stan Hamid Karzai. (kmb27)

An estimated $6 billion was spent in US federal races, mak-ing the 2012 general election the most expensive poll in American history, experts said.

Speaking on the opening day of the Bali Democracy Forum, a day after Obama was elected for a second term, Ahmadinejad said: “Just take a look at the situation in Europe and the US.

“An election, which is one of the manifestations of the people’s will, has become a battleground for the capitalists, and an excuse for hefty spending.”

Ahmadinejad, who did not comment directly on Obama’s re-election, also criticised “coun-tries who claim to be the forerun-

ners of democracy”.“Slavery, colonialism and rights

abuses continue to be imposed on human beings,” he said.

Ahmadinejad, re-elected Ira-nian president in 2009 in a vote marred by allegations of fraud, is attending the Bali Democracy Forum for the first time.

But critics have said that Teh-ran will use the meeting, which is being held for the fifth time, to try and end its growing isola-tion as sanctions over its nuclear programme bite.

A host of world leaders includ-ing Australian Prime Minister Ju-lia Gillard and Afghan President Hamid Karzai are also attending the forum.

In four quick years, First Lady Michelle Obama has become one of the most influential women in fashion, catapulting small name designers like Rachel Roy, Jason Wu, Thakoon, and Prabal Gurung to fame, and putting mall brands like J.Crew and the Gap back on the map. President Barack Obama took the stage with his family and was greeted by thunderous applause from his supporters as he signed on for four more years as commander-in-chief.

The first lady always keeps us guessing when it comes to clothes, but one quick glimpse at her outfit and we knew exactly what she was wearing: A red brocade Michael Kors shift dress she’s worn publically at least twice before--once to a 2009 holiday event at the White House, and again at a November 2010 Medal of Honor Ceremony in Washington, D.C. Just as she did in 2010, Obama paired the high-neck, knee-length frock with a cropped, three-quarter-sleeve cardigan and a large, purple jeweled brooch. She accessorized with very pointy black kitten heels and a dark-colored manicure.

Shopping her closet for this monumentous occasion was a calcu-lated move that we -- and probably many women -- could appreciate. Obama has expressed her love for affordable shops like Target, and while we’re sure this Michael Kors dress didn’t come cheap, the first lady is getting her money’s worth by wearing it again and again. Michael Kors, whose company went public nearly a year ago, is one of the most celebrated and successful American

designers, something that also may have encouraged the first lady to wear his design.

But the first lady did not shine alone. Her proud daughters were dressed in colorful, age-appropriate, girly outfits. Malia Obama, 14, wore a black, fitted scoopneck top paired with a shiny, pleated, blue silk skirt, black flats, and a playful, hot-pink belt. Sasha, 11, wore a green-and-black abstract printed skirt, a black blouse with a sweet bow, and a grey cardigan. Her finishing touches: a layered beaded necklace and green-and-black cap-toe flats.

Looking across party lines, the would-be first lady Ann Romney has also wore many noteworthy en-sembles while on the campaign trail. Though her $990 Reed Krakoff bird blouse was critically panned, we’ve admired Romney’s desire to take fashion risks and her many stunning outfits, like the green ombre Oscar de la Renta dress she wore to the last presidential debate in October. After Mitt Romney gave his conces-sion speech to supporters in Boston, Massachusetts, Ann took his hand wearing a bright red bateau-neck sheath dress with three-quarter-length sleeves. She accessorized with black patent pumps, her gold watch, the clear beaded necklace she wore at the last debate, dark nail polish, red glossy lips, and a bouf-fant updo. Red is the official color of the Republican party, and a color that Romney has favored throughout the previous months, including the memorable silk taffeta de la Renta dress she wore to the Republican National Convention.

If there’s one thing that can po-larize even the most apathetic sorts, it’s the Ugg boot. Love ‘em or hate ‘em - everybody’s got something to say. Sadly, when it comes to making money, that whole “any press is good press” thing doesn’t really apply. Ugg’s sales are down 31%, and the company has plans to slash prices (the boots currently start at $135 and run upward of $200 for some styles).

The brand has made numerous efforts to right the ship, including buying advertisement in a number of fashion publications to boost street cred and expanding the

product line to include a variety of shoes, boots, coats, and more. And while an ad campaign featur-ing Tom Brady (and an unofficial endorsement from André Leon Talley) has boosted sales on the men’s side, his influence still isn’t enough to meet the bottom line.

We’ve always sort of assumed that Uggs would hang on in some form or another for years to come. After all, even in NYC, you’ll still see plenty of pairs stomping around rain or shine. They’re like Juicy sweat suits - there’s always a market. But maybe it’s just not big enough.

Around this time of year, we find ourselves doing our predictable an-nual double-take in the bathroom mirror. You know, the one where you think, “Wait a minute - when did my skin start looking so...blah? What happened to my glow? WHO STOLE MY GLOW?” But hold up a second - don’t go nuts with the bron-zer, highlighter and contouring brush just yet. The weeklong congress starts a carefully choreographed but still fraught power transfer in which President Hu Jintao and most of the senior leadership will begin to relinquish office to a new slate of leaders for the coming decade headed by the appointed heir, Vice President Xi Jinping.

Delegates filed into Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, bedecked with red banners, and the congress was declared open after the na-tional anthem played. The 2,268

delegates are drawn from the 82 million-member party where the real deal-making is done by a few dozen power-brokers behind the scenes, even as China is ever more connected to the world through trade and the Internet.

“We are faced with unprec-edented opportunities for develop-ments as well as risks. The party must keep in mind the trust of the people,” Hu said in a speech aimed at summarizing successes of the past five years and outlining chal-

lenges for the future. “The fight against corruption remains a serious challenge for us.”

Coming so soon after President Barack Obama’s re-election in the United States, the congress has drawn unfavorable comparisons from po-litically minded Chinese who have bemoaned how little direct influence they have in choosing their leaders.

“I am doing nothing but staring at the television before Obama gets re-elected. As for China’s party congress, there is no need for me to worry. On the contrary, it would be a waste of my time,” Xu Xiaop-ing, a celebrity entrepreneur who co-founded a successful chain of English language cram schools, said on a Chinese version of Twitter where he has 6 million followers.

NEW YORK — The nor’easter, as promised, brought gusting winds, rain, snow and the threat of flood-ing. It menaced travelers with icy roads, snarled the Long Island Rail Road and knocked out power to people who had only recently gotten it back after Superstorm Sandy.

But for the weary, relief is on the way. Joey Picca, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the unwelcome snow and high winds are slowly moving out of the New York City area. Commuters, though, may have to brave some lin-gering snowfall Thursday morning.

Faced with more bad weather, some in the storm-ravaged Northeast just shrugged, dug in and stayed put.

Elena McDonnell didn’t waste energy worrying about the new-est storm, not after living through Sandy last week and still without power in her Staten Island home. “It isn’t scary at all,” the 42-year-old said. “This is nothing.”

Under ordinary circumstances, a storm of this sort wouldn’t be a big deal. But large swaths of the landscape were still an open wound, with the electrical system highly fragile and many of Sandy’s victims still mucking out their homes and cars and shivering in the deepen-

ing cold. As the storm picked up in intensity Wednesday evening, lights started flickering off again.

Mark L. Fendrick, of Staten Island, shared his frustration with others on Twitter Wednesday night, saying, “My son had just got his power back 2 days ago now along comes this nor’easter and it’s out again.”

Residents from Connecticut to Rhode Island generally got slammed with 3 to 6 inches of snow on Wednesday. Worcester, Mass., had a whopping 8 inches of snow, although a number of other com-munities threatened to exceed that accumulation.

LONDON - Germany’s Angela Merkel on Wednesday warned Brit-ain not to turn its back on Europe and urged its Prime Minister David Cameron to work with her to avoid deadlock at European Union budget talks later this month.

The leaders met in London to try to iron out differences over the EU’s 1 trillion euro (800.5 billion pounds) budget that threaten to block a deal and fuel fears that London is drifting away from the 27-nation union.

Describing plans to increase the EU budget as “ludicrous”, Cameron has threatened to veto any deal he thinks is not in Britain’s interests and will push for a real-terms freeze.

However, German officials are exasperated by what they see as Lon-don’s slide towards Europe’s margins, a feeling reinforced last week after the British parliament voted to call for a real-terms cut in the EU’s budget.

Before meeting Cameron, the German Chancellor told the Europe-an Parliament she could not imagine a Europe without Britain, the world’s sixth largest economy, which relies on the EU for half its trade.

“I believe you can be very happy on an island, but being alone in this world

doesn’t make you any happier,” Merkel said after British politician Nigel Farage, leader of the anti-European UK Indepen-dence Party, urged her to tell Cameron that Britain should quit the EU.

‘LUDICROUS’ INCREASECameron, who wants to stay in

the bloc under renegotiated terms, argues that the EU must tighten its belt at a time when the euro zone debt crisis looms large, and many countries are faced with austerity and shrinking household budgets.

“They are proposing a com-pletely ludicrous 100 billion euro increase,” Cameron said. “I never had very high hopes for a November agreement because you have got 27 different people round the table with 27 different opinions.”

Cameron was humiliated by last week’s defeat in parliament and op-ponents say he has lost control of Conservative Party anti-Europeans, a group that helped topple former leaders and that wants a referendum on Britain’s EU membership.

Debate over a referendum on Britain reworking its EU role or even leaving has climbed the agenda. A YouGov survey in Octo-ber found 49 percent of those polled wanted to leave the EU, against 28 percent who wanted to stay in it.

Sanctions given to illegal prov-ince transportation seem not to have an affect whatsoever. This was seen during a disciplinary of passenger carrier transports done

by Information and Communica-tion Transportation (PIK) Agency of Bali last Tuesday (6/11) eve-ning. During the operation start-ing at 8 pm local time, all kinds of transportation directed to the bridge asked for their permits and

documentations. Most of them has no permits and fined. One driver, Anton, said that he have to pay the fine as he did not bring his supervi-sion card. Until operation end 12 am local time, 71 vehicles checked and 25 vehicles were fined.

The the coordinator of the op-eration, Made Ardana stated that these transportations are being complained by those legal ones as they don’t have to pay retribution. An intense check is promised. “All this time a lot of public transpor-

tations especially travel ones has no permit and most of them found this time are those already fined before. It seems IDR 85,000 is cheap for them to pay and so none of them want to get their permit,” he added.

Heavy rain on Wednesday night resulted in a number of flooding disasters and some buildings ava-lanched. Severe damage occurred in the rear of the office of Karangasem regent. Revetment at two locations respectively belonging to Totok and Ketut Sugi collapsed along some 7 meters.

There were no casualties or injuries. Aside from the damage due to the collapsed house revet-ment, another flooding occurred in the office area of the Karangasem regent. Gravel, earth and even tens of banana trees were swept away and scattered in the parking lot next to Wantilan Hall of the regent’s office.

On Wednesday morning, the staff and janitors worked together to clean up the road and the office area of the regent. One of the staff whose house was in the back of the Karangasem regent’s office, I Wayan Putra, with a number of people had cleaned up the road body behind the regent’s office since early morning. Such flood-ing swept away the banana trees, garbage and the road body, while some other parts were covered by mud and the road body was crushed by flooding.

The flood crashing into the re-gent’s office was alleged to have been caused by persistent farm-land conversion at the surrounding

area, particularly in the western part. Some hectares of the terraced rice fields had been converted into the area of regent’s office and settlement. As a result, the farmland formerly served as the rainwater catchment area had reduced.

Meanwhile, at Bangras hamlet in the town of Amlapura, dozens of houses were inundated with water for some eight hours. Stagnant wa-ter in a small river and narrowing channel caused the water to over-flow, while the narrow watershed was even clogged by rubbish.

Meanwhile, dozens of traders in Karangsokong Market closed their stall due to the rain and the floor was flooding as the sewer burst. The flooding caused a number of basic food commodities sold by traders to be inundated. Two of the traders, Mrs. Hajas and Mrs. Merta Asih, claimed to suffer a loss as their rice, sticky rice, wheat and maize were damaged. They claimed to suffer a loss worth IDR 2 million because their goods were inundated with water.

In addition, landslides also oc-curred at some locations like the revetment of Ki Kopang Square at Seraya Tengah along 4 meters with a width and height of three meters. Besides, the revetment of temple compound wall in Seraya region was also reported to avalanche. (013)

Clean water crisis still haunts some people of Pecatu, South Kuta subdistrict. Water supply from the Municipal Waterworks (PDAM Tir-ta Mangutama) of Badung Regency to Pecatu handled by PT Tirtaartha Buanamulia (TB) is often ham-pered. Moreover, currently there is an allegation if a water trader manipulates the pipe connection of the Municipality Waterworks.

Komang Sujana, a resident of Pecatu, was disappointed with the service provided by the Municipal-ity Waterworks. Though having paid, the water problem still fre-quently happened. Classic problem continued to haunt the residents. As solution to the trickling water supply of the Municipality Water-works, many residents were forced to buy water supplied by a tank truck. A tank of water cost IDR 150,000.

Water supply service provided by tank truck was considered help-ful. But behind it, the residents suspected there were individuals such as the water service providers that intentionally clogged the water

pipe connection to the house of residents. When the water supply to people’s house did not work, they would buy the water provided. Such practices were clearly detrimental to residents and government. There-fore, he hoped the relevant agencies could immediately intervene to overcome it.

Chairman of Commission B of the Badung House, I Made Sumerta, reminded the government to give at-tention to the clean water crisis issue afflicting the Pecatu area for long time. Aside from having an impact on the community, the water supply disruption had also occurred in the area of Uluwatu Temple which was a tourist destination. “It should be addressed immediately. Government and the Municipality Waterworks in particular must immediately find a solution,” he said.

Badung Regency itself had a clean water program as part of the environ-mental health priorities. The Regent of Badung, AA Gde Agung, in the plenary session of the Badung House on Wednesday (Nov 7) explained that a total of IDR 6.8 billion would be allocated in 2013 so that the water supply could cover 83.8 percent of the

region. It was directed to the supply of clean water infrastructure worth IDR 6.7 billion and the operations and maintenance of water supply facilities worth IDR 119 million.

The activities were aimed at the provision of clean water at Dangin Peken hamlet, Penarungan village as much as IDR 559 million, wa-ter supply infrastructure on Jalan Pantai Balangan, South Kuta, worth IDR 2 billion, clean water at Taman village, Abiansemal (IDR 850 million), Sawangan hamlet, Benoa Village, South Kuta (IDR 458 million) and Canggu hamlet, North Kuta subdistrict (IDR 2.5 billion). However, Pecatu village having experienced the water crisis for a long time was not included in the program.

Related to the issue of water supply to Pecatu area, General Manager of PT TB, Daniel J Fony, in the anniversary celebration of the Municipal Waterworks (PDAM Tirta Mangutama) recently said the problem was only partial or did not occur at Pecatu on the whole. He also claimed to have addressed and would do his best to deal with the matter. (kmb25)

NEW DELHI - Fear of a 2008-style financial disaster is holding back the global recovery but business must be more confident and seek out new investment openings, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Wednesday.

“We can’t get over the overhang” of the financial crisis that followed the collapse of US investment pow-erhouse house Lehman Brothers, the Canadian leader said in a speech opening the Indian World Economic Forum in New Delhi.

Businesses worldwide are refrain-ing from investing because they fear a “catastrophic event” that will “send everything into a tailspin”, said Harper, adding that this “continues to restrain the global recovery”.

He called such fears overblown and urged financial decision-makers to display more confidence in making investments and help repair the global economy.

“Don’t worry about today’s uncer-tainty -- look at the opportunities,” he urged, saying this was the strategy pursued by Canada which has fared better than many developed econo-

mies since the onset of the financial crisis.

There are signs of rising global trade protectionism like that which hampered recovery from the Great Depression in the 1930s and which could still push the world into a pro-longed recession, Harper conceded.

“But it (protectionism) is not an avalanche -- it is not yet something to panic about,” Harper told business leaders who are discussing ways to boost India’s faltering economic growth at the two-day forum.

“Most leaders get it on the big picture” that trade barriers will harm rather than help their economies, said Harper who later Wednesday moved on to the northern Indian state of Punjab from where thousands of Canadians originate.

Still, he said it is clear that a com-prehensive deal in the Doha round of world trade liberalisation talks is out of reach for now and Canada instead is negotiating multilateral and bilateral deals with countries such as India.

Harper’s speech came a day after the two countries clinched an agree-ment opening the door to Canadian exports of nuclear supplies to the energy-hungry South Asian nation.

Investors fear a deeply divided Congress will not be able to reach an agreement to avoid a so-called fiscal cliff at the end of the year that many say will send the United States back into recession.

Eyes are also on Beijing, where the Communist Party has kicked off its 18th congress, which will see the begin-ning of a once-in-a-decade leadership change.

Tokyo tumbled 1.51 percent, or 135.74 points, to 8,837.15, Sydney fell 0.72 percent, or 32.7 points, to close at 4,483.8 and Seoul lost 1.33 percent, shedding 25.83 points to 1,911.09.In the afternoon Hong Kong skidded 1.47 per-cent and Shanghai fell 1.02 percent.

The initial upbeat reaction Wednes-day to Obama’s victory over Republican Mitt Romney was replaced Thursday with trepidation as the focus turned to the fiscal cliff, a combination of deep spending cuts and huge tax hikes to take

effect on January 1.The package is a major threat to the

economy after a protracted but possibly reckless compromise was agreed last year between Democrats and Repub-licans in order to raise the country’s borrowing cap.

If it kicks in, the United States’ slow recovery from the financial crisis could be reversed and the economy tip back into recession, which would in turn deal a major blow to the global economy.

And with Democrats holding the Senate while the Republicans hold the House of Representatives analysts say a compromise could be as tough to find as last August, when the row over the spending limit saw the country lose its AAA sovereign debt rating.

Wall Street, which had favoured a pro-business Romney win, tumbled on Obama’s victory. The Dow dived 2.36 percent, the Nasdaq shed 2.48 percent and the S&P 500 lost 2.37 percent.

NUSA DUA - Indonesian Military (TNI) Chief Adm. Agus Suhartono has confirmed that nine heads of state will attend the 5th Bali Democracy Forum (BDF), an annual politi-cal forum, held on Thursday in Nusa Dua, Bali.

“Eight heads of state and President Yudhoyono have confirmed their participation in BDF,” Suhartono said on Wednesday, while overseeing security arrangements ahead of the event.

“Previously, 12 heads of state were scheduled to attend

the BDF, but three of them have cancelled their schedule for the event that will be held in Dewata Island,” he noted.

“There might be problems in their country, due to which they will be unable to come to Bali,” he added.

Suhartono did not mention the names of the three heads of state. However, he stated that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Afghan Pres-ident Hamid Karzai will attend the event.

According to Suhartono, the security of all heads of state, who are included in the “Very Very Important Person” (VVIP)

category, is the responsibil-ity of all Indonesian security agencies. He pointed out that the heads of state will also be accompanied by their own security forces.

“The restriction with regard to weapons that can be brought into Indonesia by the other countries’ security forces has been communicated to all,” Suhartono said.

“Details such as how many weapons are allowed to be brought in, among other things, have been clearly communi-cated. If there are excess weap-ons, they will be withheld,” he added.

DENPASAR - So far, Japan remains one of the countries absorbing the highest fishery commodity of Bali in the form of shrimp and fish. As evidence, the data of export released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali in September 2012 indicated that Japan contributed the highest foreign exchange for Bali, reaching 35.60 percent of the export value of fish and shrimp reaching USD 10,219,000.

The Head of BPS Bali, I Gede Suarsa, re-

cently admitted that fish and shrimp were two of Bali’s export commodities which had promising market opportunities. It was indicated by the export value of both marine export commodities dominating the total exports over time.

“The export value of fish and shrimp in September 2012 reached USD 10,219,000. It increased by 40.83 percent compared to August 2012 reaching USD 7,256,000. Meanwhile, the export value in September 2011 reached USD 7,300,000 or showed an increase of 39.98 percent compared to the same month in 2012,” he said.

Admittedly, the fish and shrimp commodity had become the Bali’s potential commodities that could bring in dominant foreign exchange compared to the eleven other export commodi-ties of Bali in the same period. So far, the market share in the export destination of Bali’s fish and shrimp targeted eleven countries with different absorption percentage. The market of the United States amounted to 17.99 percent, Thailand (5.08 percent), Australia (4.69 percent) and Hong Kong (3.75 percent).

Suarsa further admitted that other than becoming the export destination, Japan was also one of the countries becoming the origin country of the imported goods required by Bali so far. The import value of goods from Japan in September 2012 reached USD 720,000 or showed an increase from August 2012 amount-ing to USD 117,000. (kmb28)

“We are preparing nine government hospitals for international accreditation by 2014,” said Supriyantoro, the Ministry of Health¿s Director General for Health Development Effort, at the 12th congress of All Indonesian Hospitals Association (PERSI) here on Wednesday.

He added that two state-owned hos-pitals Ciptomangunkusumo (RSCM) hospital in Jakarta and Sanglah hospital in Denpasar, Bali are likely to receive international accreditation by the end

of this year.Supriyantoro expressed hope that

other state-owned hospitals, such as Hasan Sadikin, Gatot Subroto, Karyadi, and Sardjito, would receive interna-tional accreditation in early 2013.

He said only five out of some 1,800 hospitals in Indonesia are internation-ally accredited, adding that all the five are privately owned.

The five internationally accredited hospitals in Indonesia are Siloam Kara-waci Hospital and Eka Hospital Bumi Serpong Damai in Tangerang; Santosa Hospital in Bandung; and Bintaro Pre-mier Hospital and Jatinegara Premier Hospital in Jakarta, Supriyantoro added.

Late goals from substitute Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez earned Manchester United a place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a 3-1 come-back win at Braga on Wednesday. In a match interrupted for 10 minutes by floodlight failure, the hosts went ahead early in the second half through an Alan penalty kick.

United struck back when Van Per-

sie came off the bench and punished a blunder by Braga keeper Beto, who inexplicably rushed out of his goal and was caught in no man’s land. Rooney put United ahead from the penalty spot soon after and, with Braga in disarray, Hernandez made it 3-1 in injury time after a goal-mouth muddle.

“Those last 10 minutes went re-ally badly for us. What a shame,” Braga midfielder Ruben Micael told Portuguese television. Group H lead-ers United have 12 points from four

games. Cluj and Galatasaray are on four points, with Braga on three.

Midfielder Ryan Giggs said Unit-ed had made up for last year’s failure to progress from the group stage. “I think we were all disappointed (last year),” he told Sky Sports. “It was not good enough and we knew we had to do something about it and we have. Long may it continue.

“We have really good strength in depth at the moment and it shows with Chris Smalling playing his first game in a long time tonight. It is good to have that strength when you have two games in a week and it is looking good for us.”

United coach Alex Ferguson made several changes to the side who beat Arsenal 2-1 in the Premier League over the weekend, bringing in Nani, Anderson and Giggs to the midfield and picking Danny Welbeck to spear-head the attack with Hernandez, leav-ing Van Persie on the bench to start with. Centre back Smalling played for the first time since injuring his metatarsal in the pre-season.

The changes did not pay off and United were poor in the first half, coming to life only after Van Persie was sent on with 25 minutes on the clock. Braga suffered a near-repeat of their fortunes at Old Trafford two weeks ago, when they gave away a 2-0 lead and lost 3-2.

LONDON - Novak Djokovic no longer hits the panic button when faced with a crisis, he just keeps calm and waits for his chance.

The five-times grand slam cham-pion was as cool as a cucumber on Wednesday as he withstood the best that fierce rival Andy Murray could throw at him to earn his second suc-cessive victory at this year’s ATP World Tour Finals.

World number one Djokovic eventually prevailed 4-6 6-3 7-5 in another energy-sapping duel with the Briton he has been locking horns with since they were 11-year-olds.

Murray got the better of Djok-ovic in an epic U.S. Open final in September to win his first grand slam but Djokovic has won four of their seven meetings this year, including the last two.

In the Shanghai Masters final last month Djokovic saved five match points before downing Mur-ray and while he was never in quite as much trouble on Wednesday, he still needed those survival instincts to finally subdue the Scot after be-ing outplayed for the first hour.

“A calm mind always wins,” the 25-year-old Djokovic, who matured into one of the sport’s most ferocious competitors since his more combustible early days, told reporters.

“I’ve learned what I need to do. I try to take from every experience the best that I can and mature every year as a player and as a person.

I’ve had many matches that I was coming back from a set down or match points down.”

Djokovic has made a habit of winning from match point down and his record in deciding sets is up there with the best.

His Australian Open final victory over Rafa Nadal this year took nearly

six hours, that having spent nearly five hours beating Murray in the semis.

There was also last year’s U.S. Open semi-final when he saved two match points against Roger Federer to leave the Swiss reeling.

Even in defeat against Murray at this year’s Flushing Meadows final he battled back from two sets down

before succumbing in five.“Confidence plays a key role

for any person on this planet,” Djokovic, who will end a second successive year as world No.1 said. “ “Especially for the athletes at this level.

“You need to try to rely on your strength in your game and you need

to believe in your shots, believe in your instincts.

“When you have that positive mindset, when you believe in your game, you have better chances of winning those crucial points.” Djokovic will face Tomas Berdych in his final round-robin match on Friday.

“This is mind-blowing, this is Celtic 2, Barcelona 0,” a match commentator exclaimed when Watt scored Celtic’s second with seven minutes to play before adding at the final whistle: “Wow, wow wow ! A phenomenal result for (manager) Neil Lennon and his legends in hoops.”

Among the passionate Celtic fans, rock star Rod Stewart was seen with tears in his eyes as Celtic gave him and the 55,000 ecstatic fans in the stadium reasons to be-lieve they had just seen something very special.

Celtic were only narrowly beaten by Barca at the Camp Nou two weeks ago, and while they were

praised for their resilience in that 2-1 defeat, this 2-1 success - despite Barca having 84 per cent possession of the ball - represents one of the biggest upsets in the Champions League for years.

Even the English editions of Britain’s papers hailed their victory in banner headlines on Thursday with the Daily Mirror and Daily Mail giving them precedence over Chelsea and Manchester United’s victories against Shakhtar Donetsk and Braga respectively. The result left Celtic with a strong chance of making it into the last 16.

Barcelona lead Group G with nine points, followed by Celtic on

seven, Benfica on four and Spartak Moscow bottom with three. Celtic’s remaining games are at Benfica on Nov. 20 and at home to Spartak on Dec. 5 but if Barca beat Spartak in their next match as seems likely, Celtic will only need a draw in Lisbon to qualify.

Lennon, who could hardly con-tain his joy at the end, said after-wards it was one of the greatest nights of his career and he hoped it would help restore pride in Scottish football.

Celtic’s Old Firm rivals Rang-ers, the country’s other traditional powerhouses, have been demoted to the fourth tier after going into administration and Craig Levein was sacked from his role as national team manager after Scotland’s miserable start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Heart of Midlothian are now in a severe financial crisis which could end with them being wound-up, so Wednesday’s victory was a welcome relief - at least for Scottish neutrals.

MUNICH - Bayern Munich’ Claudio Pizarro’s hat-trick in their 6-1 demolition of Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday was the third fastest in the competition’s history but a long time coming, said the Peru forward. Pizarro, who grabbed a starting spot after Bayern’s top scorer Mario Mandzukic was ruled out with a cold, used his chance to display all the skills that have made him the Bundesliga’s top foreign scorer of all time and scoring three times in 15 minutes.

“It has been some time that I have scored three goals in one half,” the 34-year-old told reporters with a big smile. “I am very happy to have scored. “We played very well from the start and the early goal was important,” he added in reference to Bastian Schweinsteiger’s fifth minute goal from a curled free kick.

“Then the goals started coming. It was just fun to play out there tonight. I hope it continues like that.” Pizarro returned to Bayern this season after spells as Chelsea and Werder Bremen as an attacking option. Mandzukic, however, had been first choice this season with Mario Gomez still out since surgery in August.

The tall Peruvian, however, who also scored twice in Bay-ern’s German Cup second round last week, did not let this chance slip by. He opened his account in the 18th minute with a low shot from 16 metres, adding another 10 minutes later with a close-range flick worthy of a world class centre forward.

Pizarro grabbed his hat-trick in the 33rd, rising high to meet another Philipp Lahm cross and drill in his header. The forward, who played for Bayern between 2001-2007, even had time for a sideline dance with Brazilians Dante and Rafinha after his first goal. “We had organised it before and said that if I score I will dance a Brazilian dance,” Pizarro said.

sie came off the bench and punished a blunder by Braga keeper Beto, who inexplicably rushed out of his goal and was caught in no man’s land.

LONDON - Celtic fans celebrated through the night after the team beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Champions League at Parkhead on Wednesday to give their supporters what is being described as the second greatest night in the club’s history. In the week that the Scottish champions marked their 125th birthday, goals from Victor Wanyama and teenager Tony Watt gave Celtic their greatest inter-national success since they beat Inter Milan to lift the European Cup in Lisbon in 1967.

(kmb28)

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health has stated that nine government hos-pitals in Indonesia are likely to have international accreditation by 2014.

(kmb25)

Security of BDF V tightened

There’s a simple remedy for a lifeless, lackluster complexion; one that works for every skin type, and that you can score for less than the price of a fancy coffee. What is it, you ask? A bold, bright lip color that adds instant vibrancy to your visage, of course. We asked a bevy of local makeup artists to let us in on their secrets for choosing

the perfect shades to pop against your complexion, no matter where you fall on the skin-tone spectrum. Ahead, a bounty of electric hues, plus the pro tips you need to make them work for you. Now who’s got the glow?

Michelle German said,”Who cares about makeup rules! My opinion? Get noticed with some bright-colored lips.”

Fair to light complexions:”Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté in Red Muse is a cool-toned red that could be perfect for anyone, but is most defi-nitely amazing for light and fair skin tones. Not only is it smooth and mois-turizing, but the packaging is enough to make me purchase and recommend this lipstick to all my girls.”

Election Night Style: Michelle Obama Vs. Ann RomneyLate Tuesday night President Barack Obama was re-elected

to a second term in the White House, beating out former Mas-sachusetts Governor Mitt Romney by securing the swing state of Ohio. Both men had their beautiful wives on hand for support, and -- forgive us for being a little shallow -- we were dying to see what each woman was wearing.

Celtic’s win over Barca gives fans reason to believe

“Every year, BDF must lead to concrete outcomes, which do not just remain on paper. Every year, we reaffirm our understanding of democ-racy through the exchange of ideas and democratic values of various countries,” he said during the opening of the event at the Bali International Convention Centre (BICC) here on

Thursday morning. The head of state noted that

BDF was becoming increasingly prominent as a global platform for promoting democracy, because the number of countries taking part in the forum has been rising every year. Therefore, he added, the forum’s contribution to the promo-

tion of global democracy also must increase with each passing year.

At the forum, which was attend-ed by nine heads of state and two deputy prime ministers, President Yudhoyono stated that all parties could express their views and share their experience on democracy in their respective countries.

“The implementation of good democratic values will be beneficial in developing the economy, poli-tics, and other sectors. Therefore, this forum is becoming increasingly relevant,” he explained.

However, the President pointed out

that all parties should promote democ-racy across the globe while respecting the sovereignty of other countries.

Cited the case of Syria, President Yudhoyono expressed hope that the world would join hands to find a solution to the problems facing the country. Meanwhile, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa, in his report, stated: ¿The BDF continues to grow from year to year, adapting to the needs and current situation of the region.¿

“The main agenda of the 1st BDF, which was held in 2008, was the consolidation of democratic

values in the region. Then, the 2nd and 3rd BDFs focused on promot-ing democratic values in a safe and stable environment,” he said.

Marty noted that the main objec-tive of the 4th BDF was to promote democratic values at the national as well as regional levels.

At the 5th BDF, themed “Ad-vancing Democratic Principles at The Global Setting”, Marty said all parties must first evaluate the achievements made since the pre-vious BDF, before continuing to promote democratic values across the globe.

NUSA DUA - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has expressed hope that the 5th Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) will promote democracy not only at the regional level but also at the global level.
