The animated movie, about the adven-tures of a genius dog and the human son he adopted, earned $21.2 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday. Debuting last weekend at No. 2, the 3-D kiddie-jaunt features voices from Modern Family stars Ty Burrell and Ariel Winter.

Our midweek numbers were very strong, indicating good and positive word of mouth, said Chris Aronson, president of domestic distribution at Twentieth Century Fox. If anything, this is exceeding (expectations). Its a combination of likable characters and its a nostalgia play for those who are

familiar with the show.Mr. Peabody and Sherman first ap-

peared in the 1950s and early 1960s on Peabodys Improbable History, a segment within the animated television series Rocky and His Friends and later The Bullwinkle Show.

The family marketplace is giving every other genre a run for its money, said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak. But the St. Patricks Day effect could be at play here, where families had to exercise their options at the theater rather than the pub. That may have paid off for

    Mr. Peabody.Meanwhile, analysts predicted that

Need for Speed, based on the popular EA Entertainment video game and star-ring Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul, would come in at No. 1 this weekend. But with $17.8 million, it arrived at No. 3 in the U.S. But the movie raced to the top of the international box office, bringing in $45.6 million.

Warner Bros. warrior drama 300: Rise of an Empire, the 3-D sequel to 2007s 300, dropped to second place, with $19.1 million, after debuting at No. 1 last weekend. Though its opening haul of $45.1 million pales in comparison to the original, which debuted with $70.9 million, Rise of an Empire has earned more than $78 million since its debut. Tyler Perrys The Single Moms Club, starring Nia Long and Amy Smart, opened with $8.3 million at No. 5.

LOS ANGELES Chris Brown is facing a court hearing over his dismissal from rehab and whether he should be given additional penalties, which could include more time behind bars.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer spent the weekend in a Los Angeles jail after a judge ordered him to be arrested for violating the rules and regulations of his treatment. Court records did not elab-orate on the reason for Browns dismissal from the facility that was treating him for anger management, substance abuse and issues related to bipolar disorder.

Brown, 24, had been under court orders to remain in treatment since No-vember, one month after he was arrested in Washington, D.C., after a man accused him of punching him in a confrontation

outside a hotel. That case is pending, and Superior Court Judge James R. Brandlin has not yet scheduled a probation viola-tion hearing to address whether he would penalize the singer for the arrest.

His attorney, Mark Geragos, did not return an email message seeking com-ment on the singers arrest. Prosecutors have not said what action they plan to take at Mondays hearing.

The judge revoked Browns probation in December, but refused a prosecutors request in February to send the singer to jail because of the Washington mis-demeanor assault case. The judge has said Brown appeared to be making good progress in rehab and a probation officer gave him a favorable report at his last court hearing on Feb. 28.

The singers arrest last week represents another stumble in his efforts to put his

2009 attack on then-girlfriend Rihanna behind him. Browns probation had been scheduled to conclude in August, but that is now unlikely because he still has 750 hours of community labor to complete and could face additional penalties for failing to complete rehab successfully.

Sacred zone, especially the area around the kahyangan jagat temple doubling as tourist attraction really needs to be secured and preserved because most lands around the area are private property that are most likely to be sold or transferred or leased to capital owners for the development of tourism facilities or used as a souvenir stall, restaurants, etc., he explained.

In the villa, one of the occupants was alleged to hold a drug party. It was true that Mohammad Syaiful Ali bin Shafarudin, 28, a citizen of Singapore was known to be in the fly condition in the villa room.

He was then taken to the Denpasar Police to undergo further examination. Other than the suspect, police also seized drug evidence in the form of dried marijuana leaves and two ecstasy pills. The suspect has been arrested in the Denpasar Police and the case is being developed, said the source at police station, Sunday (Mar 16).

The source explained that the raid was carried out based on the complaints from the public where in the villa was told there was an occupant making a drug party. Having been followed up, in fact, the information was correct and the suspect was caught taking drugs. When arrested, the suspect was in fly condition, he said.

Further, the source who declined to give his name said that from the results of the search in the villa room, the officers found the leaves, seeds and stems amounting to 17.52 grams of marijuana (in package) and two pieces of ecstasy. Indeed, the suspect stayed with her girlfriend. However, his girlfriend was not proved to taking drugs, he explained.

After exploring Bali, I saw that rudrak-sha tree can flourish well, even in Nusa Penida, precisely at Saab Temple. Maybe, the people there will not realize the benefits and selling points of the seeds left scattered on the ground, said the owner of Shan-kara Global Supplier & Distributor of High Quality Rudraksha, Made Sujana Japa, nicknamed De Japa, Friday (Mar 14).

To his knowledge, some spiritual leaders disseminated the rudraksha seeds and the most widely was in the area of Besakih, Karangasem. In addition, there was also in the region of Mambal, Abiansemal and others. Its seedling is inexpensive ranging from IDR 40,000 to IDR 70,000. Besides, it is very easy to cultivate and it does not need special treatment. The cultivation prospect of this tree in Bali is very good because Balinese people are known to be religious society, said De Japa having the address on Jalan Dalem Subak Gang 17

No.10 Denpasar.Rudraksha, according this the spiritual

leader, was widely used for thousands of years by yogis in India and the Himalayas to enlightenment and liberation. In addition, the rudraksha was also widely used in the health field for various pharmaceuticals based on the Ayurveda. In the religious field, rudraksha was not only used as a tool to count in prayer, but also as a means to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul. So, the overall quality of life could be improved.

I have known the rudraksha since the 2000s and started the making of handicrafts such as bracelets and necklaces. Since 2010, I have seriously pursued this handicraft, he said.

To ensure the quality of rudraksha bracelets and necklaces of his work, De Japa usually made their own. During the manufacturing process, it was coupled with japa (mantra). I can distinguish my own

craft from the other products. It happens because the process of making is accom-panied with chants. In addition, Ive also created rudraksha of super quality, said the man from Denpasar.

By and large, he purchased this spiritual seeds in Kebumen, Central Java. The seeds from this region had super quality and the price was different from the usual. In addition, he usually ordered thousands of seeds. Most rudraksha has 5, 6 and 7 clefts or mukhi. Meanwhile, the rarest is the seed with one mukhi costing up to IDR 60 mil-lion in the international market. There was also the seed with 21 clefts symbolizing the Lord Kubera or the Lord of Wealth. In addition, De Japa said the rudraksha seed with 21 clefts could cure diseases including AIDS. The rudraksha with 21 clefts is very difficult to obtain because its very rare. Until now, I have not been able to find it, he added. (rah)

Bali PostDENPASAr - rudraksha tree or Elaecarpus ganitrus is a spiritual plant having extraordinary properties. Even,

collectors from India and Nepal hunt the seeds particularly to Java. Unfortunately, Balinese people have not taken advantage of the opportunities of growing the plant considered to be the tears of Lord Shiva dripping to the earth. Actually, a good quality seed of rudraksha costs IDr 500 to IDr 1,200, while a tree can bear thousands of seeds.

Once you do, this Internet-con-nected eyewear takes on a life of its own. You become The Person Wearing Google Glass and all the as-sumptions that brings with it about your wealth, boorishness or curiosity. Such is the fate of early adopters of new technologies, whether its the Sony Walkman, the first iPod with its conspicuous white earbuds, or the Segway scooter. Google calls the people who wear Glass explorers, because the device is not yet available to the general public.

With its $1,500 price tag, the de-vice is far from having mass appeal. At the South By Southwest Interactive tech jamboree in Austin this week, I counted fewer than a dozen people wearing it, including technology blogger Robert Scoble, who isnt shy about posting pictures of himself in the shower, red-faced, water running, wearing the device.

Google, like most successful technology companies, dreamers and inventors, likes to take a long view on things. It calls some of its most outlandish projects moonshots.

Besides Glass, these include its driverless car, balloons that deliver Internet service to remote parts of the world and contact lenses that monitor glucose levels in diabetics.

Theres an inherent risk in moon-shots, however: What if you never reach the moon? Ten years from now, we may look back at Google Glass as one of those short-lived bridges that takes us from one technological breakthrough to the next, just as pag-ers, MP3 players and personal digital assistants paved the way for the era of the smartphone. Fitness bands, too, may fit into this category.

In its current, early version, Google Glass feels bulky on my face and when I look in the mir-ror I see a futuristic telemarketer looking back at me. Wearing it on the subway while a homeless man shuffled through the car begging for change made me feel as if I was sporting a diamond tiara. I sank lower in my seat as he passed. If Google is aiming for mass ap-peal, the next versions of Glass have to be much smaller and less

conspicuous.Though no one knows for sure

where wearable devices will lead us, Rodrigo Martinez, life sciences

chief strategist at the Silicon Valley design firm IDEO, has some ideas. The reason we are talking about wearables is because we are not at

implantables yet, he says. (But) Im ready. Others are ready. Nev-ermind implants, Im not sure Im even ready for Google Glass.

Scientists have crowdsourced a network of volunteers taking water samples at beaches along the U.S. West Coast in hopes of capturing a detailed look at low levels of radia-tion drifting across the ocean since the 2011 tsunami that devastated a nuclear power plant in Japan. With the risk to public health extremely low, the effort is more about perfect-ing computer models that will bet-ter predict chemical and radiation spills in the future than bracing for a threat, researchers say.

Federal agencies are not sam-pling at the beach. The state of Oregon is sampling, but looking for higher radiation levels closer to federal health standards, said state health physicist Daryl Leon. Washington stopped looking after early testing turned up nothing, said Washington Department of Health spokesman Donn Moyer.

The March 2011 tsunami off Ja-pan flooded the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant, causing radiation-contaminated water to spill into the Pacific. Airborne radiation was detected in milk and rainwater in the U.S. soon afterward. But things move much more slowly in the ocean.

    We know theres contami-

nated water coming out of there, even today, Ken Buesseler, a senior scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Mas-sachusetts, said in a video appealing for volunteers and contributions. In fact, it is the biggest pulse of radio-active liquid dropped in the ocean ever, he said.

What we dont really know is how fast and how much is being transported across the Pacific, he added. Yes, the models tell us it will be safe. Yes, the levels we expect off the coast of the U.S. and Canada are expected to be low. But we need measurements, especially now as the plume begins to arrive along the West Coast. In an email from Japan, Buesseler said he hopes the sampling will go on every two or three months for the next two to three years.

Two different models have been published in peer-reviewed scien-tific journals predicting the spread of radioactive isotopes of cesium and iodine from Fukushima. One, known as Rossi et al, shows the leading edge of the plume hitting the West Coast from southeast Alaska to Southern California by April. The other, known as Beh-rens et all, shows the plume hitting Southeast Alaska, British Columbia and Washington by March 2016.

JAKARTA - The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party chief patron, Prabowo Subianto, conducted election campaign at Wagimin Square in Tabanan, Bali, on Monday afternoon, official stated.

Prabowo acted as campaigner in Tabanan at 4 p.m. on Monday, the second day of election cam-paign, Prabowo Media Center coordinator Budi Purnomo Karjodihardjo noted on Monday.

Based on a report from Gerindra, Prabowo will again act as the partys national campaigner on March 29, in Yogyakarta, and then on April 5 in East Java.

But the grand campaign of Gerindra will be staged at Bung Karno sport stadium in Jakarta on March 23.

On the first day of campaign, Prabowo, the presidential candidate from Gerindra, conducted the campaign in Sragen, Central Java. The campaign was attended by tens of thousands of Gerindra cadres and sympathizers.

In his political oration, Prabowo pointed out that April 9 will be the day of people sovereignty, when all voters, rich, poor, or generals, will have the same rights at the polling stations.

Therefore he added that its important not to make any mistake during voting because once they make a mistake, they, along with their children, will pay for it for the next five years.

He noted that the people of Indonesia should be able to stand on their own feet without relying on others.

We want our country to be led by clean people, not by the corrupted, Prabowo elaborated.

The essential role that the government should have played was to set up a management body as it had promised in a proposal to the UNESCO, I Wayan Windia, a professor of the University of Udayana, stated.

Windia, who is also the chair-person of the research team of the Subak system, pointed out that the management body for the worlds cultural heritage in Bali has not yet been set up. The body is expected to coordinate matters relating to the development of the Subak system with the government.

As a result, the absence of the management body has created fric-tions of ideas and conflicts with regard to the development of the

worlds cultural heritage in several areas such as in Jatiluwih, penebel (Tabanan districts) and Hulu Tukad Pekerisan (Gianyar district), he added.

In the meantime, according to Windia, capitalist businesses have become even more and more ag-gressive in taking advantage of the Subak natural panorama in the interest of their tourism business.

They even use it as their trade mark for the interest of their busi-nesses.

On the other hand, farmer mem-bers of the Subak community who have played important roles so far in the development of the system are becoming more and more marginal-ized, he elaborated.

DENPASAR - Acreage of the ag-ricultural land in Bali increasingly diminishes due to development of settlements and tourist accommo-dation. Actually, the agricultural produce poses the basic requirement so that Balinese people do not even depend on other region. Therefore, local governments are expected to seriously protect and prosper the farmers.

If the government is really siding with farmers, the agricul-tural land should be tax-free. The ever-rising tax has incriminated farmers, said the lecturer of the Faculty of Agriculture, Udayana University, Dr. Gusti Alit Susanta Wirya, accompanied by I Putu Su-diarta, Ph.D.

In addition, the government was expected to arrange and maintain the spatial order of the rice field so as not to be targeted by developers. In essence, farmers must be pro-tected and made prosperous. When it has been done, there is small possibility for farmers to sell their farmland, added Sudiarta.

Sudiarta confirmed the price of agricultural products in Bali should be high. He said that so far the pub-lic often protested because the price was expensive. Therefore, the gov-ernment should have the courage to provide subsidies. For example, the grain must be purchased at ex-pensive price by the government, and then sold again at a lower price

because it has been subsidized. It is the subsidy. In Indonesia, the government should be able to make farmers prosperous, he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Indonesian Farmers Union (HKTI) of Badung Chapter, I Ketut Sugi-ana, said that rice field was a part of farming system in Bali and had eco-nomic, sociological and ecological function. In addition, the farming system in Bali denoted a civilization of Balinese people having become a specific culture.

Organization of the agriculture in Bali through subak system has been recognized to have its own characteristics. Such characteristics eventually become the alluring mag-net of Bali. Thus, there is no reason for not preserving the rice fields and farming system in Bali, he said.

Meanwhile, for the preservation strategy, said Sugiana, the govern-ment should consistently apply the provisions of the law on the pres-ervation of sustainable cropland. Additionally, it should be combined with the customary bylaw in the subak organization. The policies of regulation in the area of land were also important to be refined because land conversion commenced from the transfer of land rights.

It is time for all of us to care about the agriculture in Bali in or-der to avoid more severe damage. Similarly, the government should also seriously protect farmers with various pro-farmer policies, said Sugiana. (rah)

French investigators arriving to lend expertise from the two-year search for an Air France jet that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009 said they were able to rely on distress signals but investigators say the Malaysian airliners communications links were deliberately severed ahead of its mysterious disappearance more than a week ago.

Its very different from the Air France case. The Malaysian situation is much more difficult, Jean Paul Troadec, a special adviser to Frances aviation ac-cident investigation bureau, said in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian authori t ies say the jet carrying 239 people was purposely diverted from its flight path during an overnight flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, and suspicions has fallen on anyone aboard the plane with aviation experi-ence, particularly the pilot and co-pilot.

    Malaysian police confiscated a

flight simulator from the pilots home Saturday and also visited the home of the co-pilot, in what Malaysias police chief Khalid Abu Bakar later said was the first police visits to those homes. The government issued a statement Monday contradicting that ac-count by saying that police first visited the pilots home on March 9, the day after the flight.

Investigators havent ruled out hijacking or sabotage and are checking backgrounds of all 227 passengers and 12 crew members, as well as the ground crew, to see if links to terrorists, personal problems or psychological issues could be factors.

Malaysian Airlines CEO Ah-mad Jauhari Yahya said at a news conference Monday that an initial investigation indicates that the co-pilot, Fariq Abdul Hamid, spoke the fights last words All right, good night to ground controllers.

Officials previously have said that those words came at a point

when one of the jetliners data communications systems already had been switched off, and the timing has sharpened suspicions that one or both of the pilots may

have been involved in the planes disappearance. The detail would appear indicate that whoever spoke the words was deceiving ground control. However, it is

not clear whether the system could have been turned off by one of the pilots or someone else without the other pilots knowledge.

WASHINGTON The U.S. and its allies in Europe are expected to announce sanc-tions against Russia, including visa bans and potential asset freezes, on Monday, one day after Crimeas vote to secede from Ukraine and join Russia. President Barack Obama told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sunday that Crimeas vote would never be recognized by the United States, as he and other top U.S. officials warned Moscow against making further military moves toward southern and eastern Ukraine.

The two leaders spoke after residents in Crimea voted overwhelmingly in favor of the split in a referendum that the United States, European Union and others say violates the Ukrainian constitution and international law and took place in the strategic peninsula un-der duress of Russian military intervention. Putin maintained that the vote was legal and consistent with the right of self-determination, according to the Kremlin.

But the White House said Obama reminded Putin that the U.S. and its allies in Europe would impose sanctions against Russia should it annex Crimea. Crimeas parliament on Mon-day declared the region an independent state and said that all Ukrainian state property on the territory of the Black Sea peninsula will be nationalized.

During the call, which came amid an ex-change of decidedly Cold War-style rhetoric between East and West, Obama urged Putin to pursue a diplomatic de-escalation of the crisis, support the Ukraine governments plans for political reform, return its troops in Crimea to their bases, and halt advances into Ukrainian territory and military build-ups along Ukraines borders.

Obama told Putin that a diplomatic resolu-tion cannot be achieved while Russian military forces continue their incursions into Ukrai-nian territory and that the large-scale Russian military exercises on Ukraines borders only exacerbate the tension, the White House said in a statement.

NEGARA - Strong winds destroyed several stalls and electricity poles on Jalan Udayana, Baluk, Negara, Sunday (Mar 16). Due to the wind, the DenpasarGilimanuk road section was hampered by fallen trees and the collapse of street lighting. Until Sunday afternoon, po-lice and residents still helped clean up the tree branches hampering the road access.

Supriyadi, 56, a stall owner at roadside on Jalan Udayana said that strong winds coincided with rain around 3:30 p.m. When the incident occurred, he was in the stall and could hear the roars from the West. It happened very quickly and as if there were fogs, I saw the wind spin-ning, said the meatball trader.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Lia, a (steamed) chicken betutu trader also saw a tornado around the site with mists crashing into the east. At the time, she was in the gazebo of parking lot in her Betutu Chicken Stall. She also watched the roof of the shoe kiosk owned by Sunar flew and was swept

away by the wind. She was worried if the wind would be crashing down her gazebo. As the data collected, due to the high winds, the asbestos roof of the shoe stall collapsed and at least three light-ing poles and electric poles collapsed as well. No casualties were reported in the incident.

Shoe stall owner, Sunar, 37, claimed to be in his stall. Shortly after the high winds blew, all the asbestos roofs in the middle of the stall collapsed. However, he said that not all roofs were swept away by the winds. It was dam-aged as dragged by electrical cable whose poles collapsed, he explained.

Since the stall had been roofless, Sunar was forced to put his shoe merchandise into a sack. Until Sunday afternoon, the main cable and electrical substations were still seen to col-lapse into the paddy field owned by resident. Meanwhile, the officers of the Traffic Affairs of Jembrana Police also came to location to arrange the traffic flows and clean up the fallen tree hampering the Denpasar-Gilimanuk road section. Circulation of fake banknotes is the most commonly found in traditional markets, especially at night. Traders will be difficult to distinguish between the genuine and fake money because it is on the atmosphere of darkness. In contrast, the modern market equipped with the ultraviolet money detector will easily identify it, said Mohamad Yaser, Assistant Manager of Ad-ministration and Payment System of Bank Indonesia for Region III Bali-Nusra, Friday (Mar 14).

According to him, the rupiah banknotes had particular character-istics used to secure the rupiah from counterfeiting efforts. In general, the sign of authenticity of rupiah could be recognized from the se-curity element embedded in the materials and printing techniques of the money. Among them, there were watermark and electrotype, security thread, intaglio printing, mutually complementary image, color changing ink, micro writing, invisible ink, and hidden image.

There are dozens of character-istics of the original money. Such complexity is deliberately made to compound the counterfeit. Even though it can still be counterfeited,

but at least the cost will be high. Thus, it will discourage the inten-tion to counterfeit, he said.

He said the easy way to distin-guish the counterfeit money was by applying the method of seeing, touching and holding the banknotes up to the light. In addition, the process of educating the public was also becoming a priority in controlling the circulation of fake banknotes, namely by providing an understanding on the characteristics of rupiah authenticity (CIKUR) in the form of education and socializa-tion to the community, especially those in the common economic spaces such as traditional market, fish auction, shopping centers or simple stalls belonging to the com-munity as well as gas stations.

We expect this model can im-prove the knowledge of community regarding the counterfeit money detection capability. By that way, it finally restricts the moving space of the fake banknote traffickers and makes them difficult. Eventually, it suppresses the fortune of the coun-terfeit money traffickers, he said.

He mentioned that implementa-tion of general election would also become the target for the circulation

of fake banknotes. Unluckily, Mo-hamad did not reveal the percentage of the fake banknote circulation in the current political event. Ahead of the election, there is indication on the circulation of fake banknotes because the fake money circulation runs among the space and time. However, to ensure it must be seen from the existing data, he said.

As has been known, the data of Bank Indonesia at the beginning of 2014 indicated that Bank Indonesia (BI) and the National Police Crimi-nal Investigation had eliminated the fake banknotes at least 135,110 sheets. In details, they consisted of 67,278 sheets of IDR 100,000 de-nomination, 56,764 sheets of IDR 50,000 denomination, 5,033 sheets

of IDR 20,000 denomination, 3,553 sheets of IDR 10,000 denomination, 2,460 sheets of IDR 5,000 de-nomination, 19 sheets of IDR 2,000 denomination and 3 sheets of IDR 1,000 denomination. The findings of fake rupiah banknotes had been collected from 2008 through 2013 and stored in the National Police Criminal Investigation. (kmb27)

Traditional market targeted by circulation of fake banknotes Bali Post

DENPASAR - Representative Office of Bank Indonesia for Region III Bali-Nusra revealed that circulation of fake banknotes in Bali tended to target traditional markets. Vodafone, flush with cash from the sale of its US joint-venture stake to partner Verizon for $130 billion, said the Ono deal was a significant oppor-tunity to create Spains top integrated services provider.

The combination of Vodafone and Ono creates a leading integrated com-munications provider in Spain and represents an attractive value creation opportunity for Vodafone, said chief ex-ecutive Vittorio Colao in a statement.

Demand for unified communica-tions products and services has in-creased significantly over the last few

years in Spain, and this transaction ... will accelerate our ability to offer best-in-class propositions in the Span-ish market.

We look forward to welcoming the management and employees of Ono to Vodafone and working together to serve our customers across Spain.

The transaction, worth the equivalent of 6.0 billion, is expected to complete in the third quarter of this year but re-mains subject to regulatory approval.

Ono, which has about 1.9 million customers, has struggled to compete in Spain with Telefonica, Jazztel and other

firms that bundle in-home services.Vodafone meanwhile has about 14

million customers in Spain, but faces fierce competition.

This transaction reflects Onos attractive position as Spains leading provider of high speed broadband, pre-mium pay-TV and fixed communica-tions said Jose Maria Castellano Rios, chairman of the Ono board of directors, in Mondays statement.

As part of Vodafone, Ono will con-tinue to seize new growth opportunities and deliver the quality that our custom-ers expect.

The enlarged business is also ex-pected to drive innovation in the Span-ish telecommunications industry.

BEIJING - More than 100 million Chinese are to be given vital documents making them officially residents of the countrys cities under a broad urbanisation plan that is crucial for eco-nomic growth.

Chinas new leaders under President Xi Jinping who took office a year ago have touted people-centred urbanisation to raise the quality of life as well as just growth rates.

The national plan for a new model of ur-banisation unveiled Sunday calls for measurable improvements such as extended social benefits, improved air quality -- an issue that causes widespread public anger -- and expanded public transport.

It aims for 60 percent of Chinas 1.36 billion people to live in cities by 2020 and for 45 percent to have the vital urban residency registration, or hukou, that gives them equal access to social benefits such as education and health care.

This would compare with 52.6 percent and 35.3 percent as of 2012.

The stated goals include work hard to achieve 100 million rural workers and other permanent residents obtaining urban hukou.

The change would narrow the proportion of urban residents who lack urban hukous -- a move which analysts say is crucial in improving living standards for migrants from the countryside, hundreds of millions of whom have moved to the cities in recent decades.

Urbanisation is a powerful engine for main-taining the sustainable healthy development of the economy, the plan said.

Rural Chinese, by becoming urban residents will enjoy better public services, causing the urban consumer pool to continue to expand, it said, calling domestic demand a fundamental driver of Chinas economic development.

Chinas leaders have repeatedly pledged to retool the countrys growth model to one driven by consumer demand rather than investment.

But the plan also said urbanisation will bring huge investment demand for city infrastructure, facilities for public services and housing con-struction, which will provide continuing power for economic development.

Among many goals, the plan called for 99 percent of migrant children to receive nine years education, and 95 percent of rural labourers and others struggling to find work to receive free basic job training.

It said 60 percent of cities should meet national air quality standards, up from 40.9 percent in 2010.

The official news agency Xinhua stressed authorities commitment, saying the plan will provide strategic and fundamental guidance for the healthy development of urbanisation across the country.

NEGARA - Arrangement to the Delodbrawah Beach tourist area has not been maximized. The number of visitors to this tourist area is indeed beginning to rise, but still constrained by tourist facilities that have not been available. Besides, many things remain to be addressed, including the culinary stalls. Over the past year, from five stalls provided, only four units have been used. Additionally, some stalls are also frequently closed.

As seen on Sunday morning (Mar 16), no culinary stalls had been opened yet. At that time, visitors had actually crowded the beach, especially in the buffalo race circuit located not far from the beach. Even, it had been graced with many activities. How-ever, the beach seemed even to be dominated by street vendors who sold around the beach.

Kadek Merta, one of the visi-tors, said the newly established culinary stalls were rarely seen to open. This visitor from Men-doyo accidentally took a bath

every weekend on the beach. In addition, the facilities to shower or toilet for travelers were not available. Most of the visitors here take a dip on the beach. Unfortunately, there is no place to rinse, he said.

As has been known, Jembrana County began to fix a number of tourist attractions including at Delodbrawah. A number of supporting facilities had been constructed, including the split gates (candi bentar) and culinary stalls. Additionally, the local customary village also relocated

and arranged the dimly lit cafs. It was intended to arrange the Delodbrawah Beach area into a culinary center to eliminate the negative impression that was al-ways identical to cafs.

Chief of Delodbrawah custom-ary village, Ketut Narya, admit-ted that after the arrangement, the visit to the beach indeed increased. However, he acknowl-edged that some facilities such as bathrooms for travelers had not been available. According to him, the culinary stalls were opened almost every day. Even

if there were some stalls closed, it happened because the traders were absent. The culinary stalls keep open. Only four units have been in operation, while another has not, he explained.

His party also hoped that De-lodbrawah could be freed from a negative impression. Besides, he also expected to be able to present art performances at Delodbrawah to boost tourist arrivals and to promote tourism. We are ready to support every event and urge the implementation of many events here, he affirmed. (kmb26)

The reward was presented by National Executive Director of the Walhi, Abednego Tarigan, to Suriadi Darmoko to be further submitted to Jalak Sidakarya activists, last Sat-urday. On March 13-15, 2014 the Walhi held a national environmental consultation meeting (KNLH) in the Wisma PKBI Jakarta. In the KNLH meeting, the Walhi made some important decisions for the organization and the struggle for the environment in Indonesia. In a press release received by Bali Post, Abednego Tarigan in his speech delivered that criminaliza-tion incident occurred in Indonesia and the intensity tended to increase from year to year. The Walhi also urged in order the future leadership of this nation had a political agenda to stop the criminalization, violence and intimidation to the public and activists who were struggling for the equitable right over the environ-ment and natural resources. So far, criminalization was a tool having been used by the authority to stop the peoples struggle in the fight for environmental rights.

The last and very embarrassing incident for us was the criminaliza-tion against the four environmental warriors in Bali and now they are detained by Bali Police consisting

of I Wayan Tirtayasa, I Wayan Saniyasa, I Wayan Adi Jayanatha and I Made Murdana, Abednego said.

Related to criminalization against the four environmental warriors from Jalak Sidakarya, Walhi also sent a letter of protest to the National Police and Bali Police. The letter was signed by the Walhi leadership of 28 regions in the prov-inces throughout Indonesia.

Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, will attend the Indone-sian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P)s general meeting and will campaign in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on March 28, 2014, a local official said.

One of the national cam-paigners attending the meeting is Jokowi, who was nominated by the PDI-P as its presidential can-didate, the partys local official Nelson Matara said on Monday.

According to him, only Jokowi and East Nusa Tenggaras Gov-ernor Frans Lebu Raya will cam-paign on March 28.

Nelson said Jokowi will speak about the vision and mission of the PDI-P during the campaign, and he will also announce his nomination as a presidential candidate to the people of the province.

Meanwhile, the local Hanura partys spokesman Saleh Husein, on different occasions, said the presidential and the vice presi-dential candidate from the par-ty, Wiranto-Hary Tanoesudibjo (Win-HT), will also campaign for their party in Kupang.

Hanura also has the oppor-tunity to stage its campaign in Kupang, Saleh said.

I want military and police personnel, both from central and regional units, to be deployed in all affected areas. Dont let a single affected area be untouched, the President stated, while leading a roll call of the disaster management task force at the Roesmin Nurjadin air base on Monday morning.

By deploying security personnel in all the affected areas, the Presi-dent hoped that all local residents who are suffering from haze, which has shrouded Riau in the past 22 days, could be handled effectively.

During a meeting with repre-sentatives of the residents of Siak district on Sunday, the President expressed disappointment at the failure to tackle land fires in a village, which is located only 20 kilometers from the Riau provincial capital city of Pekanbaru.

In his directives to 1,263 person-nel of the haze management task force, the President emphasized that the handling of land fires in Riau is divided into two stages; first, fighting fires to get rid of haze in three weeks time; and second, putting land in order until September 2014.

The first phase of the fire han-dling effort, which started on March 14 focuses on three pillars; fighting fires and getting rid of haze; provid-ing health care to affected residents; and upholding the law.

The law must be upheld strongly, quickly and sternly to give deterrent effects, he explained.

The second phase of the fire handling effort will last until Sep-tember, as the term of the current cabinet will end on October 20.

The second phase covers control-ling illegal plantations, putting an end to illegal logging and making a system to take preemptive steps in case of fires.

Dropped waterSpecial task force in Riau has

dropped 1.6 million liters of water over the area to extinguish for-est fires there, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB)s Data

Unit Chief Agus Wibowo stated on Monday.

The 1.6 million liters of water has been dropped 348 times us-ing special planes like Sikorsky, Kamov and Bolcow over the past two weeks. Among the target areas are Bengkalis district, Dumai city, Kuantan Singgigi district, Indagiri Hilir district, and the border area between Riau and South Sumatra provinces, Agus explained.

Hundreds of hot spots and for-est fires were reported in Riau province during the past month. The condition led to thick haze that cover most of Riau province area and caused respiratory infection among at least 55 thousand local people. The haze also reduced visibility and disturbed the air transportation there.

According to police investiga-tions, the forest fires in Riau prov-ince were due to deliberate action by people who want to set up new plantations.

The Riau Haze Emergency Task Force has deployed 558 personnel to hunt down forest encroachers and arsonists that caused forest, planta-tion and peat-soil fires in Riau.

The deployment of hundreds of personnel is mainly to strengthen legal enforcement, Chief of the Riau Police Brigadier General Condro Kirono, in his capacity as the commander of the task forces legal enforcement unit, stated.

The personnel include police officers, military officers, forest rangers and members of the intel-ligent agency, he pointed out.

The Riau police have detained 36 people who allegedly set fires illegally to clear land for farming and plantation.

Of the 36 detainees, 16 were en-croachers of the Giam Siak Kecil-Bukit Batu biosphere reserve.

The Riau military office has also detained a military officer identified by as Chief Sergeant Sudigdo alias Digdo, who was suspected of having financed the encroachment.

military operations. Abu Ghaith, who is a son-in-law of bin Laden, is charged with conspiring to kill Americans. He is the highest-level al-Qaida figure to be tried in the U.S. since the Sept. 11 attacks.

Prosecutors say he was part of al-Qaidas deadly plot in his role as spokesman in fiery videos and as a motivational speaker at the groups training camps in Afghanistan.

Abu Ghaiths lawyers have said the Kuwait-born imam made

inflammatory remarks but didnt conspire to carry out terrorism. Defense lawyers are seeking to use testimony from Mohammed, who is in a detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They would need U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplans approval to introduce the information.

The defense has suggested Mohammed could help rebut the governments claim that Abu Ghaith must have known in advance of al-Qaidas so-called shoe bomb airplane plots, includ-ing Richard Reids attempt to carry one out in December 2001.

The statement from Mohammed filed Sunday consisted of an-swers he gave to questions posed by Abu Ghaiths lawyers.

In the statement, Mohammed said he never spoke with Abu Ghaith about the shoe bomb op-eration and added, Those tasked with giving statements to the media do not necessarily know all the details of an operation and are sometimes even unaware of the very existence of the op-eration. Prosecutors rested their case Friday in the trial of Abu Ghaith. The defense case is due to start Monday.

VATICAN CITY Christians and Muslims have joined to try to help free millions of men, women and children held in modern-day slavery, forced to work as maids, prostitutes, child soldiers and manual laborers. The Global Freedom Network launched Monday at the Vatican aims to eradicate slavery by encouraging governments, businesses, educational and faith institutions to rid their supply chains of slave labor.

The initiative is the brainchild of billionaire Australian mining magnate Andrew Forrest, who founded the Walk Free Foundation in 2012 to mobilize a grass-roots movement to end slavery.

Forrest, ranked 270th on Forbes list of the worlds richest people, used personal contacts to bring the 1.2-billion strong Catholic Church, 85-million strong Anglican Communion and al-Azhar university in Cairo, the worlds foremost seat of Sunni learning, on board with the initiative.

Representatives from all three gathered Monday at the Vatican to sign an agreement to launch the project, which will be based at the Vatican and have a chief executive responsible for imple-menting a five-year business plan. Objectives include getting the G20 to condemn modern-day slavery, persuading 50 major corporations to commit to slavery-proofing their supply chains and convincing 160 governments to endorse a seven-year, $100 million fundraising effort to implement anti-slavery programs globally.

In an interview, Forrest said it makes financial sense for countries to rid themselves of slave labor. We have absolute economic proof that once you take slavery out of a community, that community grows and grows and grows, he said.

The Walk Free Foundation in 2013 published the Global Slavery Index, a country-by-country breakdown which found that some 29.8 million people were currently enslaved around the globe: child laborers harvesting cocoa in Ivory Coast, women sold for sex in Moldova, and Haitian children trafficked and forced into begging. Everyday items used in the developed world soccer balls, bricks, diamonds and flowers are often produced or extracted using slave labor, the report said.

LOS ANGELES Blake Griffin had 21 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists on his 25th birthday as the Los Angeles Clippers held off the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-80 Sunday for their 11th consecutive victory. Chris Paul had 15 assists and scored 11 of his 16 points in the final 6:04 for the Clippers, who havent lost since Feb. 21.

Los Angeles matched the longest winning streak in the NBA this season, equaling 11-game runs in November by Portland and San Antonio. This stretch of games that weve played and weve been successful has been a huge team effort, Griffin said. With our team, I dont think its one guy thats making us go. I genuinely believe its been a total team effort.

The San Antonio Spurs kept their own win streak alive, topping the Utah Jazz 122-104 for their 10th straight victory. Argentine star Manu Ginobili scored 21 points, Tony Parker had 18 points and Tim Duncan 16 for the Spurs (50-16), who became the first NBA team to 50 wins this season.

The Western Conference-leading Spurs shot a season-high 62.8 percent from the field. At Oklahoma City, the Dallas Mavericks stopped a seven-game, regular-season losing streak to the Thunder with a 109-86 victory.

Shawn Marion scored 19 points, Vince Carter added 18 and Dirk Nowitzki 17 for the Mavericks, who became only the third Western Conference team to win this season in Oklahoma City, joining the Trail Blazers and Clippers.

Kevin Durant scored 30 points for the Thunder his 26th straight game of 25 points or more, the longest such streak since Michael Jordan did so in 40 straight games during the 1986-87 season. In the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat stopped their worst skid in three years with a 113-104 win over the Houston Rockets.

Ray Allen scored 14 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter and LeBron James and Dwyane Wade each scored 24 for the defending champion Heat, who won for just the second time in their last seven games. The Heat were down 97-92 following a 3-pointer by James Harden midway through the fourth, but finished the game on a 21-7 run.

MELBOURNE, Australia Elation turned to desolation for Daniel Ricciardo at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday after the Red Bull driver was stripped of his first podium finish due to a technical breach at Formula Ones season opener. Ricciardo initially finished second to Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg to become the first homegrown driver to take to the podium in the 29-year history of the Australian GP.

The celebrations did not last long as F1 stewards said his car breached fuel-flow rules introduced this year which limit cars to 100 kilograms of fuel during the race. World motorsport governing body FIA subsequently disqualified Ricciardo , elevating McLaren drivers Kevin Magnussen and Jenson Button to second and third.

    Red Bull immediately announced

it will appeal. Shortly after the end of the race, FIA Formula One technical delegate Jo Bauer said Ricciardos car had exceeded consistently the maximum allowed fuel flow and referred the matter to stewards.

More than three and a half hours later, after Ricciardo had left the track, the stewards disqualified the Australian saying Red Bull had not only breached technical regulations by exceeding the allowed fuel flow, but also had disregarded instruc-tions before the race to change the fuel flow sensor and during the race to reduce the flow. The operation of the fuel-flow sensors had been a source of dispute between the teams and the FIA coming into the first race.

After the findings, Red Bull said Inconsistencies with the FIA fuel flow meter have been prevalent all weekend up and down the pit lane. The team and (engine-maker) Re-

nault are confident the fuel supplied to the engine is in full compliance with the regulations.

Horner further proclaimed the teams innocence to reporters say-ing; It is no fault of Daniel. I dont believe it is the fault of the team. I am extremely disappointed, quite surprised ... hopefully through the appeal process it will be quite clear that the car has conformed at all times to the regulations, he added. We would not be appealing unless we were extremely confident that we have a defendable case.

Messi assured Barcelonas fans they will enjoy his goals for years to come, saying as long as people want me, I will stay here. My intention is to retire wearing the Barcelona shirt.

The Argentina forward netted from close range to open the scoring at Camp Nou in the 18th minute. Alexis Sanchez made it 2-0 four minutes later before Andres Iniesta scored just his second goal of the season in the 34th.

Messi struck twice more in the second half, either side of Cris-tian Tellos goal, to give him a team-leading 18 league goals this campaign, before he set up Pedro Rodriguez. It was Messis 20th career hat trick for Barcelona, to go with four four-goal games and one five-goal outing.

Barcelona remained in third place, four points behind Madrid, ahead of their meeting in the Spanish capital next Sunday. Barcelonas big win, which matched its scoreline over Levante to start the season, came one week after it slumped to a 1-0 loss at Valladolid, which cast doubts on the teams ability to stay in the race for the league title with Madrid and second-place Atletico Madrid.

But its victory midweek over Manchester City in the Champions League and this dominant performance appear to have restored its credit as a contender before Gerard Martinos team faces Madrid

in a game that may go a long way to decid-ing the title.

We hope we can play a great game, Messi said about the upcoming clash at the Santiago Bernabeu. We know it will be difficult, but we will do all we can to fight for the league title until the very end. We received a lot of criticism after the Valladolid match. We knew we didnt play well and this (win) boosts our confidence.

SAO PAULO Goalkeeper Julio Cesar the wrong side of 30 and past his prime is the weakest link in the team which all of Brazil expects to win the World Cup this July. And that is no accident:

The nation of Pele has long paid far more atten-tion to players who score and make goals than

to those who save them. The countrys best-known goalkeeper was probably Barbosa,

and he became famous not for a great save but for the national agony he caused by letting in Uruguays two goals against

Brazil that won the World Cup in 1950.

The first thing Brazilian kids often do before pick-

up games is play rock, scissors, paper to decide who gets stuck in goal.

    With so many outstanding s t r i ke r s

    a n d

midfielders in Brazilian history, few chose keepers as their childhood idols.

If the kid is good enough with the ball, probably he will not want to play in goal, Zetti, a reserve goalkeeper in Brazils 1994 World Cup-winning squad, said in a phone interview. Kids are usually scared of playing in goal, and most of the time parents are always trying to convince them to play in a different position.

Zetti opened Brazils first academy exclusively for

goalkeepers six years ago. Brazil long neglected to take goalkeeping seriously, he explained. Teams didnt hire trainers for that position, so goalkeepers couldnt match strikers and midfielders for quality.

But Zetti said things have changed in recent decades. Marcos and Rogerio Ceni, goalkeepers in the 2002 World Cup-winning squad, both influenced the Brazil-ian game with their successes and become idols for a new generation.

Marcos and Rogerio Ceni really contributed to get more kids to want to become goalkeepers, Zetti said. In my academy, I can see this. Because of them there is a generation coming up that really likes goalkeepers. They are not ready to play yet, but in a few years we may be able to start seeing some results.

Marcos saves in the 2002 final against Germany helped Brazil secure its fifth world title. He also enjoyed success with Palmeiras, winning the 1999 Copa Liberta-dores with the Sao Paulo club where he played for nearly two decades. Easy-going and known for speaking his mind, Marcos was easy to like for fans of all ages, even those from rival teams.

Ceni was a reserve keeper for the World Cups of 2002 and 2006, where he came on as a substitute for Brazil No.1 and captain Dida late in a 4-1 demolition of Japan in the group stage.

Ceni has won three Brazilian championships and the 2005 Club World Cup with Sao Paulo, where he remains

a starter. He stands out for scoring goals, not just saving them. He has netted more than 100 penalties and free kicks, by far the most for a goalkeeper.

Cesar was a reserve with Ceni in the 2006 World Cup squad before getting Brazils No. 1 spot at the 2010 World Cup. Fans remember his mistake in Brazils 2-1 quarterfinal elimination by the Netherlands. Obstructed by midfield teammate Felipe Melo, Cesar failed to punch away Wesley Sneijders cross that zipped past him into the goal for the Dutch equalizer.

PARIS Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain beat Saint-Etienne 2-0 Sunday to retain its eight-point lead over Monaco at the top of the French league. Ibrahimovic opened the scoring with a low strike in the 14th minute before volleying home to double the lead in the 41st for his 25th league goal this season.

PSG stretched its winning streak to seven games in all competitions. We had the control of the game in the first half, PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. Unconsciously, we wanted to protect our lead in the second half. We sat back a bit and gave a bit more space to Saint-Etienne.

Saint-Etienne stayed in fourth place, five points behind Lille. Elsewhere, Dimitar Berbatov scored a goal and made two assists to lead Monaco to a 3-2 win over fifth-place Lyon. Montpellier secured a precious point in the battle for safety by salvaging a 1-1 draw with Bordeaux.

Saint-Etienne threatened in the 13th, forcing PSG goalkeeper Salva-tore Sirigu to turn a long-range strike from Franck Tabanou around the post. A minute later, PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi had a goal attempt blocked by Jeremy Clement, but Ibrahimovic pounced on the loose ball to net into the bottom corner. Ibrahimovic and Uruguay striker Ed-inson Cavani missed the target from six yards in the 29th and 32nd, respectively. But the Sweden forward showed his flair in the box by beating goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier to the ball to flick home after Cavanis cross took a deflec- t ion off Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma.

We didnt really exist in the first half, Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier said. We didnt manage to match PSGs in-tensity. And we were punished from stupid turnovers. Saint-Etienne tried to rally in the second half but lacked the finishing touch. Benjamin Corgnet sent a rebound into the side-netting in the 48th and Josuha Guilavogui headed over the bar a free kick from Yohan Mollo in the 59th.

Sirigu preserved the win by stopping angled efforts from Moustapha Bayal Sall in the 52nd and Mevlut Erding in the 60th as well as a long-range strike from Romain Hamouma in stoppage time.

In Lyon, Berbatov proved a valuable win-ter signing for Monaco by setting up Valere Germain, who fired home from 12 yards to put the visitors ahead in the fourth minute. Berbatov then slipped the ball to Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez, who doubled the lead from close range in the 27th. Lyon forward Jimmy Briand converted a cross from Miguel Lopes to pull one back in the 32nd, but Berbatov restored Mo-nacos two-goal lead with a side-footed effort in the 52nd. Briand volleyed home in the 78th to ensure a nervy finish.

MILAN Andrea Pirlos late goal saw Juventus maintain its charge to a third successive Serie A title as it beat Genoa 1-0 on Sunday to extend its lead to 17 points. Pirlo fired home a free kick two minutes from time as Juventus struggled to a victory after Gianluigi Buffon had saved Emanuele Calaios penalty. Roma, which hosts Udinese on Monday, has two games in hand on Antonio Contes men.

Only a great team could come here and win on this pitch against this team, which had the game of their lives, Conte said. I dont want to say how close we are to the title, I hope to win it, but we are having an extraordinarily fantastic championship.

Third-place Napoli visits Torino on Monday and is seven points ahead of Fiorentina, which beat Chievo Verona 3-1. Earlier, AC Milan fought back from two goals down but lost 4-2 at home to Parma after play-ing almost the entire match with 10 men. Elsewhere, bottom club Sassuolo beat 19th-place Catania 3-1 and

nine-man Livorno beat Bologna 2-1 in tense relega-tion battles.

Bologna has replaced Livorno in the bottom three. Lazio won 2-0 at Catania while Atalanta eased to a 3-0 win over Sampdoria. Juventus striker Pablo Osvaldo had two goals ruled out for tight offside decisions in a fiery first half.

Genoa had the best chance to break the deadlock when it was awarded a penalty in the 71st minute after Arturo Vidal had handled in the area, but Buf-fon dove smartly to his left to deny Calaio. It was a fitting way to mark Buffons 476th appearance for Juventus, which matches legendary goalkeeper Dino Zoffs tally.

And Juventus stole all three points when Pirlo curled a trademark free kick into the top left cor-ner. Fiorentina ended a run of four games without a win as Chievo wasted a number of chances. It took the lead when Juan Guillermo Cuadrado passed to David Pizarro, then raced into the area to volley the return ball into the back of the net.
