LOS ANGELES - Melissa McCarthy’s star power lifted “The Boss” to an estimated $23.5 mil-lion opening weekend despite bad reviews and rough word-of-mouth

for the R-rated comedy. If those projections hold, it will

be enough to narrowly topple “Bat-man v Superman: Dawn of Justice” from first place at the weekend box

office. As it stands, the superhero match-up fell just short of retaining the top slot, earning $23.4 million and bringing its total after three weeks to $296.7 million. Given that

this is essentially a statistical dead heat, it is possible that those posi-tions could shift once final numbers roll in on Monday morning.

With “Spy,” “Identity Thief” and now “The Boss,” McCarthy has be-come one of the most reliable comic draws in the movie business.

“She has a hot streak going like no other comedian, male or female, working today,” said Jeff Bock, an analyst with Exhibitor Relations. “You have to consider the lineage of Eddie Murphy in the ‘80s, Jim Carrey in the ‘90s and Adam San-dler in the aughts. She is their heir apparent.”

Despite McCarthy’s popularity, “The Boss” could have trouble showing endurance. The film’s middling C+ CinemaScore signals that audiences agree with critics that the picture is flawed. The film is a collaboration between McCarthy and her husband, the director and co-writer Ben Falcone, who previ-ously teamed on 2014’s “Tammy.” It centers on a business icon who is brought low after she is convicted of insider trading. Universal dis-tributed the $29 million production across 3,480 theaters.

McCarthy is the film’s big draw, with 76% of ticket buyers surveyed

reporting that they turned out to see the comedian. Women comprised 67% of the audience, with 51% of the opening crowd clocking in over the age of 35.

“She is absolutely a bankable movie star,” said Nick Carpou, president of domestic distribution at Universal. “It’s another number one opening for her.”

The weekend’s other new re-lease, STX Entertainment’s “Hard-core Henry,” struggled to break through, earning a feeble $5.1 mil-lion from 3,015 theaters for a fifth place finish. The studio acquired the point-of-view thriller in a bidding war at last year’s Toronto Film Fes-tival, paying a reported $10 million for the rights. The opening weekend crowd drew heavily from the gamer set, with 72% of ticket buyers say-ing they played first-person shooter video games such as “Call of Duty” and “Halo.”

Disney’s “Zootopia” scored a third place finish with roughly $14.5 million, bringing its total to $296.2 million after six weeks in theaters, while Universal’s “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2” nabbed fourth place with $6.4 million, tak-ing its total to $46.7 million after three weeks of release. (rtr)

N.W.A., formed in the 1980s in the troubled Compton neighbor-hood of Los Angeles and enjoying new fame through the 2015 biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” were only the fifth hip hop act ever to be voted into the Hall of Fame. They had been nominated three times before.

The group made waves for their often inflammatory songs that reflected the violence, crime and anti-police sentiments of their neighborhood, but went on to sell more than 100 million records.

Founding member Ice Cube said the group had earned their place in the Hall of Fame, just as the pio-neers of jazz, blues, punk, rock and pop before them.

“We have come a long way from being so hated in the industry to

making it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Ice Cube said. “Are we rock and roll? You’re goddam right we’re rock and roll. Rock and roll is not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and in life.”

N.W.A. celebrated with Dr. Dre taking a selfie on stage of the group.

British metal band Deep Purple, soft rock-pop group Chicago, singer Steve Miller, and 1970s rock band Cheap Trick rounded out the 2016 inductees, who were chosen by fans and more than 800 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Artists are eligible for inclusion 25 years after the release of their first recording.

Miller, who moved from blues

to pop and back again to produce 1970s hits such as “The Joker” and “Fly Like an Eagle,” lashed out backstage at the induction process.

He criticized restrictions over music and video licensing for the show and complained about being offered only two tickets for family and friends for the ceremony.

“This came so close to not hap-pening,” Miller said of his appear-ance at Friday’s ceremony. “They make it so unpleasant.”

British band Deep Purple, formed in 1968, performed their signature hit “Smoke on the Water.” Introduc-ing the band, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, called them timeless, pioneering and mesmerizing.

Chicago, which fused jazz and rock, performed their upbeat hit “25 or 6 to 4,” but left out what was arguably their best-known song, the 1976 romantic ballad “If You Leave Me Now.”

The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on April 30. (rtr)

“This hotel will be managed by a local government-owned enterprise so that it can generate income and increase the regionally generated revenue of Badung. On that account, the revenue source of Badung increases,” he said.

Other than in the development of tourism sector, the government of Badung also wants to use the regional budget to build gas station. According to Suiasa, it builds gas

station because the government of Badung has enough assets in the form of operational vehicles, both motorcycles and cars.

“Thus, it will have an impact on the effectiveness and efficiency. At the same time, it will also be able to contribute to increase revenues,” he said.

With these efforts, various sec-tors will be able to encourage so that effectiveness and efficiency of regional budget can be maintained, as well as to boost the regional revenues sourcing from outside the hotel and restaurant taxes.

“In principle, it is how to man-age the budgetary expenditure so that it will also generate some-thing beneficial and will be able to boost regional revenue and have an impact on public welfare,” he said.

Further, he explained if the government is managing the hotel it will be targeted to general trav-elers as well as guests from other regions going to make a visit to Badung. They will be directed to utilize the accommodation owned by the region.

“Guests of the government can

also be directed to stay here. I am confident that with good and profes-sional management the investment in tourist accommodation will be able to go on,” he said.

The draft, he said, will lead to the welfare of society, create job oppor-tunities, reduce unemployment and increase revenues. With increased revenues and the lack of unem-ployment, the public has a strong competitive edge. “In essence, we can apply the management of regional budget with the spirit of entrepreneurship in Badung,” he said. C A P E C A N AV E R A L — NASA is trying to resuscitate its planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft, in a state of emergency nearly 75 million miles away.

The treasured spacecraft — responsible for detecting nearly 5,000 planets outside our solar system — slipped into emergency mode sometime last week. The last regular contact was April 4; everything seemed normal then.

Ground controllers discovered the problem Thursday, r ight before they were going to point Kepler toward the center of the Milky Way as part of a new kind of planetary survey. Kepler was going to join ground observa-tories in surveying millions of stars in the heart of our galaxy, in hopes of finding planets far from their suns, like our own outer planets, as well as stray planets that might be wandering between stars.

This is the latest crisis in the life of Kepler.

Launched in 2009, the space-craft completed its primary mis-sion in 2012. Despite repeated breakdowns, Kepler kept going on an extended mission dubbed K2 — until now. The vast 75 million-mile distance between Kepler and Earth make it all the harder to fix.

“Even at the speed of light, it takes 13 minutes for a signal to travel to the spacecraft and back,” mission manager Charlie Sobeck said in a weekend web update from NASA’s Ames Re-search Center in Mountain View, California.

Recovering from this emergen-cy condition “is the team’s priority at this time,” Sobeck said.

More than 1,000 of Kepler’s detected 5,000 exoplanets have been confirmed to date, accord-ing to NASA.

Kepler is named after the 17th century German astronomer and mathematician Johannes Kepler. (ap)

The successful autonomous touchdown of the booster at sea marked another milestone for bil-lionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk and his privately owned Space Exploration Technologies in the quest to develop a cheap, reusable rocket, expanding his edge in the burgeoning commercial space launch industry.

The liftoff at 4:43 p.m. EDT (2043 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Air Station also marked the resump-tion of resupply flights by SpaceX for NASA following a launch ac-cident in June 2015 that destroyed an earlier cargo payload for the

space station.About 2-1/2 minutes after Fri-

day’s launch, the main part of the 23-story tall, two-stage SpaceX rocket separated, turned around and headed toward a landing platform floating in the Atlantic about 185 miles (300 km) northeast of Cape Canaveral.

A live video feed broadcast on NASA television showed the rocket booster, its four landing legs ex-tended, descending over the ocean before settling itself upright on the barge-like platform, roughly eight minutes after launch.

“The rocket landed instead of

putting a hole in the ship or tipping over,” Musk told reporters at the Ken-nedy Space Center a short time later. “We’re real excited about that.”

Four previous at-sea landing attempts had failed. But a Falcon 9 main-stage rocket achieved a suc-cessful ground-based touchdown in December, the first ever during an actual commercial space mission.

President Obama hailed the latest accomplishment on Twitter, saying, “Congrats SpaceX on land-ing a rocket at sea. It’s because of innovators like you & NASA that America continues to lead in space exploration.”

The reusable rocket booster should arrive back in Florida on Sunday and will be test-fired about 10 times, then likely re-launched, probably on a commercial flight, as early as May, Musk said. (rtr)

Local resident, Gede Mustika, said on Sunday that because the road has no drainage system, rain water is left to mix with the dirt, causing extremely muddy condi-tions in Songan. ìWhenever it rains hard, this is what happens and vehicles cannot pass”, he said. To make matters worse and evern quite dangerous 500 meters of the road that runs through Banajr Ulundanu is severly damaged, especially near

the community hall. Mustika explained that Songan

residents have tried to fix this strip of the national road themselves on numerous occasions so as to avoid a muddy mess. However given their limited resources they have only ever managed to fill in the larger potholes with smaller stones and sand. The people of Songan very much hope that the government will try to find a solution to the damaged

muddy road problem. NAother local resident named Putu Bimas, added that after heavy rains when the road turns into a mud slide, few if any drivers are brave enough to attempt driving along this section of road. They have no choice but to wait for the water to drain away from the road. He also hopes that the road can be fixed as soon as possible as it is the only road out of Songan Village and the main road that leads to Pura Hulundanu Tri Khayangan Jagat Temple in Songan and to Pura Kayuselem temple as well. DENPASAR - Water companies are springing up all over Bali. The result of this commercialization of water is that water sources are diminishing and local people are having a harder and harder time accessing clean water. Rice paddies are also drying out, de-spite the fact that the government aims to have Indonesia become food self-sufficient.

“Agricultural green spaces and paddy fields should have access to the natural flow of water. But such land is becoming increasingly rare”, emphasized Direktor of PT SKI Land Development , Gede Semadi Putra, on the sidelines of an event held by the builders association (Rakerda DPD REI Bali 2016 ) in Tohpati, Denpasar on Sunday (Apr 19).

Meanwhile, clean water is becoming more and more scarce in Bali as a result of the commercialization of spring water and ground water that are being exploited by individuals and companies as a source of profits for them. “We (REI Bali-red) are very concerned about these conditions which is why we have started working with the IAI (Indonesian Architects Association), academics, cultural experts, religious leaders and the people of Bali. Our goal is to take stock of the situation and to fund solutions to this problem” he said.

The local government (Pemda), needs to give serious attention to land in Bali, said Semadi. The reason that many land developers do not follow the regulations is that the regulations are not clear and not always applied – this needs to change. Not only are green spaces and paddy fields exploited but many builders are not part of relevant associations like REI. As a result, it is hard to control what they are doing and when there is a problem they simply run away. “If all builders were part of an association, they would certainly understand what they were and were not allowed to do and would not get away with just doing what they please” said the head of DPD REI Bali.

It is hoped that the local government will be stricter in applying the existing regulations of this sector so that those who develop land and construct new buildings will cease exploiting green spaces in violation of said regulations. Land devellopers need to be controlled, either by associations like REi or directly by the local governments through the issuing of sanctions against those who violate the regulations.

“New residential buildings can only be built according to zoning regulations. Builders need to first find out if the land in question falls into a green belt or not and after obtaining all the requires licenses and permits the plot of land can start to be prepared for building according to the permits that the builder obtained from the appropriate government office” explained Director of PT Bumi Cempaka Asri (BCA) I Gede Suardita, S.E.

The Residential Building Associationsb(REI), said Suardiata assures that his business is following the existing rules and regula-tions. It is therefore extremely important that the rules and regula-tions are clear and that they are the same across the board. This clarity can then serve as a point of reference for builders and other relevant parties and can help to minimize the likelihood of rules being broken and increase the likelihood of the regulations being fully applied. This way, the government, consumers, and businesses can all follow the rules properly. (kmb36)

DENPASAR - Law enforcement officials should also make a raid against drivers of travel agencies or tourist bus. For instance, a tourist bus driver with the initials HDI, 36, was arrested on Jalan Gunung Saba, South Denpasar, because he is a user and drug dealer, Saturday (Apr. 9).

Chief of the Denpasar Police Drug Investigator, Gede Ganefo, said on Sunday (Apr. 10) the case was preceded with the arrest of the

suspect ASP, 27, a spa employee living on Jalan Padang Gajah, on Saturday, at Padangsambian, West Denpasar. “As information, the suspect ASP often distributes drugs around Jalan Raya Sesetan Gang Lumba-Lumba, South Denpasar. This suspect from Tangerang was finally arrested on Jalan Padang Gajah, Denpasar,” he said.

From the suspect living on Jalan Raya Sesetan was seized evidence

in the form of a package of crystal meth and a bong. To police officer, the suspect admitted that he got it from the suspect HDI. Usually he purchases the package of crystal meth worth IDR 500,000 from the house of HDI.

On Saturday at 22:45, police raided and arrested the suspect at the home of HDI. Police took a small plastic bag, seven packages of crys-tal meth, a pack of cigarette, electric

scale, a bundle of plastic clip, a glass pipe, pieces of pipette, lighters, seal of bong and glass pipe.

“The suspect HDI admitted to purchase the drug from someone with the initials UD. But he does not know the address. He claimed to only communicate through cellular phone,” said the former police chief of South Denpasar.

On the same day, police also ar-rested a parking attendant, IPY, 37,

on Jalan Kutat Lestari Sanur, South Denpasar. The evidence seized is crystal meth package, a bong and two lighters. Police also arrested a security guard, DPA, 35, at his home on Jalan Resimuka Monang-Maning, Denpasar, Saturday at 15:15. “Related to DPA case, we secured the evidence consisting of 10 ecstasy pills. This case is still being developed to uncover the syndicate,” said Ganefo. (kmb36)

Thousands of people were gathered at the temple at Kollam in the southern state of Kerala on Sunday for the pyrotechnic show to mark the start of the Hindu year when sparks ignited a cache of fireworks stored inside the temple grounds.

The district administration said it had not given permission for the fireworks display following complaints of noise and pollution. Police officer Anantha Krishnan said the five taken into custody were em-ployees of a fireworks manufacturer who was given the contract for running the show at the Puttingal Devi temple.

The head of the manufacturing unit was injured, one of 380 people who were in hospitals across the state with burns as well as injuries caused by flying concrete and debris.

But police had not been able to reach members of the temple management, Krishnan said.

Kerala is studded with temples man-aged by rich and powerful trusts that often flout local regulations. Each year temples hold fireworks displays, often competing to stage the most spectacular ones, with judges who decide the winners.

On Monday, grieving relatives of the victims were scouring the temple grounds for possessions of their loved ones among the shoes, handbags and other articles strewn in a pile of debris and a puddle, dark red with blood.

“There were so many men and women

lying on the ground, lifeless,” said Anish Kumar, a resident.

The scale of the tragedy has ignited demands that fireworks shows be banned at crowded places in Kerala. The chief of the state unit of the Indian Medical Association, A. V. Jayakrishna, said he planned to file a petition before the Kerala

High Court on Monday curbing the use of fireworks.

Such has been the outrage across the nation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to Kollam within a few hours with a team of doctors.

Opposition politicians led by Rahul Gandhi also visited the temple site, de-

manding a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire which took place amid a state election to choose a new assembly.

Modi has faced public criticism for fail-ing to respond quickly to disasters such as the floods in Chennai late last year. Large parts of the city were under water for days before government help arrived. (rtr)

DUBAI - Russia has delivered the first part of an advanced missile defence system to Iran, Ira-nian media reported on Monday, starting to equip Tehran with technology that was blocked before it signed a deal with world powers on its nuclear programme.

The S-300 surface-to-air system was first de-ployed at the height of the Cold War in 1979.

In its updated form it is one of the most ad-vanced systems of its kind and, according to Brit-ish security think tank RUSI, can engage multiple aircraft and ballistic missiles around 150 km (90 miles) away.

Russia’s agreement to provide Iran with S-300 has sparked concern in Israel, whose government Iran has said it aims to destroy.

In a recorded transmission, state television

showed Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari telling a news conference on Mon-day: “I announce today that the first phase of this (delayed) contract has been implemented.”

Ansari was replying to reporters’ questions about videos on social media showing what ap-peared to be parts of an S-300 missile system on trucks in northern Iran.

Russia says it cancelled a contract to deliver S-300s to Iran in 2010 under pressure from the West. President Vladimir Putin lifted that self-imposed ban in April 2015, after an interim agreement that paved the way for July’s full nuclear deal.

The U.S. military has said it has accounted for the possible delivery of the S-300 to Iran in its contingency planning. (rtr)

Indian police detain five after temple fireworks blaze kills 108

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - In-dian police have detained five people after a fireworks display at a Hindu temple set off explosions and fire killing 108 people, an officer said on Monday, in one of the worst accidents at a religious festival.

DENPASAR - The pasubayan or treaty of customary villages rejecting reclamation said prayers together at Sakenan Temple, Serangan, Sunday (Apr. 10).

A total of 28 customary villages joined the worship. Wayan Gendo Suardana, ForBali Coordinator, said that the wor-ship was culmination of three series of prayers. Previously, the treaty of cus-

tomary village already did worship to Samuan Tiga Temple, Batur Temple and Besakih Temple on April 3. After that, on April 6 they said prayers to Dalem Peed Temple, Nusa Penida. “Peak of the worship is at Sakenan Temple. It will be resumed with mapekelem (animal sacri-fice) at Karang Tengah Temple, Benoa Bay,” he said.

The prayers are aimed to beg so that their fight can be blessed. Besides, it is meant to invoke strength to God Almighty for the movement. “We beg to God so that the reclamation plan is canceled as well as the universe and power of Almighty God could open the heart of our leaders. Hopefully, Mr. Jokowi could revoke the Presidential Regulation No. 51/2014,” he

explained. He could understand if the regulation

is trapping President Jokowi in a difficult position because it was the presidential regulation issued by SBY. “Hopefully, with the blessing and grace of the universe, Mr. President Jokowi could get out of this trap and revoke the presidential regulation No.51/2014,” he affirmed. (kmb42)

Batur Geopark Museum, he explained is a center for learning about both natural and cultural processes and because the Museum itself maintains balance with the natural envi-ronment the Batur Geopark can also serves to demonstrate to the world that Indonesia is com-mitted to protecting the environment. “The idea to create this museum came out of the pride that we felt from having the Batur Geopark be included in the GGN”, said Said.

When the Batur Geopark was recognized as a world heritage site, the Regent of Bangli and the Governor of Bali were then required to be serious about addressing issues in the Geopark in need of attention by communicating with the Msinistry. “Anything of concern must be communicated”, added the Minister.

Said explained that the Batur Geopark was designated as a world heritage site because of its special geological diversity, biodiversity and culture. These three components must be integrated with the spirit of conservation, education and community participation. Not only that but the geopark, located in Kintamani is also expected to provide a positive effect on society. “Bangli can become an example in terms of geopark management. Other regions will be able to study here (Bangli—Ed),” he added.

Coordinator of the Batur Geopark Museum, Desak Made Andariani, said on Saturday (Apr. 9): “once the museum is open to the public, we will intensify promotion of it to educational in-stitutions and travel, so as to attract visitors.

She added that the magnificent museum is expected to contribute to increasing public knowledge about nature and how to glorify the earth. Dozens of officers have been prepared for the management of the museum and to ensure that these human resources are of high quality, they will be provided with special training. “This museum is to serve as a place of education”, she conclude. GIANYAR - A week after the decline in fuel prices, in fact it does not necessarily make the price of groceries and other staples down. Moreover, the price of a number of basic needs such as onions, peppers and eggs are still skyrocketing. This condition happens at a number of markets in Gianyar.

Skyrocketing prices of basic needs after the decline in fuel prices was also seen at Sukawati public market. At the market, the price of onion with good quality reaches IDR 50,000, while the small-sized onion costs IDR 40,000. This condition is alleged to happen due to lack of stock in Bali, including the lack of onion brought in from Java. “Now, the most expensive onion reaches IDR 50,000, hard to get and the supply from Java is too little,” said Mrs. Ngurah while sorting out onions, a merchant at Sukawati public market.

Furthermore, this merchant at Sukawati public market stated that the price of other basic commodities such as chili peppers is still high, namely in the range of IDR 35,000 to IDR 40,000 per kilogram. Another commodity having quite high price is garlic at IDR 25,000 per kilogram.

When asked about the impact of reduction in fuel prices on basic needs, this elderly claimed to be unable to follow the reduction in fuel prices because she still purchases goods at high price. “It’s the price of fuel, while the price of commodities purchased from collectors is high, so that it is impossible for me to sell at low prices,” she said.

She recognized that a week after the reduction of fuel prices, the price of basic needs remained high because the stock of onions, chili and other needs declined. “It’s uncertain, tomorrow if the stock amount increases, probably the prices of groceries can go down,” he said.

In the meantime, at Blahbatuh public market, the price of onions also reached the highest peak with price range of IDR 45,000 to IDR 48,000 per kilogram. Another commodity reaching high enough price is egg, reaching IDR 38,000 per crate containing 30 pieces. (kmb35)

The U.S.-led development bank forecasts that developing East Asia will expand at a still robust pace of 6.3 percent this year and 6.2 per-cent in 2017-2018, down from 6.5 percent in 2015 and slightly lower than its forecast in October. The Philippines and Vietnam will lead growth in Southeast Asia.

Indonesia, the biggest economy in Southeast Asia, is forecast to grow by 5.1 percent in 2016, 5.3 percent in 2017, and 5.5 percent in 2018. But that will depend on the success of recent reforms and follow-through on ambitious public investment plans.

China, the world’s second-big-gest economy, is shifting from export and investment-led growth to a greater reliance on consumer spending. The World Bank’s latest estimate puts growth at 6.7 percent this year, 6.5 percent in 2017, and 6.2 percent in 2018, down from 6.9

percent in 2015.“The resilience of growth of the

economies in this region is particu-larly striking when you realize that this has been achieved against the backdrop of fairly gloomy global growth,” said Sudhir Shetty, the bank’s chief economist for East Asia and the Pacific region. But he cautioned that “it’s a very volatile time for the global economy.”

In 2015, developing East Asia and the Pacific accounted for almost two-fifths of global growth, more than twice the combined contribu-tion of all other developing regions, said Victoria Kwakwa, incoming World Bank East Asia and Pacific Regional Vice President. The 14-country region includes China but excludes India, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.

“The region has benefited from careful macroeconomic policies, including efforts to boost revenue

in commodity-exporting countries,” she said. “But sustaining growth amid challenging global conditions will require continued progress on structural reforms.”

The report called for close moni-toring of economic risks, particular-ly those associated with high levels of debt, price deflation, slower growth in China, and high corporate and household debt in some large economies.

China reported Monday that its inflation remained steady at 2.3 per-cent in March, while wholesale prices paid by manufacturers, the producer price index, dropped 4.3 percent. To counter that deflationary trend, authorities plan to eliminate much of the country’s excess factory capacity, especially in the steel sector.

The World Bank report urged China to continue reforms of its restrictive household-registration system, and to shift public spend-ing from infrastructure toward public services including education, health, social assistance and envi-ronmental protection.(ap)

WARSAW — Hundreds of thousands of people whose personal fates hinge on whether Britain leaves the European Union or stays don’t even have a say in the matter: Polish immigrants, a community so numerous that Polish has become Britain’s second most-spoken language.

When Poland and many other countries once behind the Iron Curtain joined the EU 12 years ago, Poles gained unprecedented opportunities to live and work in Western Europe — a freedom unthinkable in the communist era.

Britain’s dynamic economy has attracted more people from Poland than any other single EU country, and they worry that they could be among the big losers if British voters opt for “Brexit” in the June 23 referendum.

“There is a lot of uncertainty and worry now,” said Jakub Krupa, the head of Poles in UK, an umbrella organization that works with Pol-ish groups in Britain, and the London correspondent for Polish news agency PAP. “Nobody really expects a situation in which all of the old borders are back, but people don’t really understand what might hap-pen. There seems to be no clear arrangement for what the future will look like if there is Brexit.”

Krupa said there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that many Poles are applying for British citizenship, or plan to, even though the fee of more than 1,100 pounds ($1,560) puts off many others.

Ilona Korzeniowska, editor of Polish Express, a Polish-language newspaper published in Britain, said her website has seen a spike this year in Poles looking for information about citizenship. She said many Poles simply don’t have enough information to understand how Brexit would affect them.

There are now about 850,000 Poles working in Britain, while Poland has an overall population of 38 million. So it’s little surprise that Poles overwhelmingly hope that Britain remains in the EU — 80 percent, according to a recent survey by the University of Edinburgh.

Under British law, immigrants who have resided in the U.K. for more than five years can apply for permanent residency. The Polish Institute of International Affairs, a Warsaw-based think tank, estimates that still leaves between 120,000 to 400,000 Poles who arrived after 2012. If Britain leaves the EU, they would have to apply for work visas and, if rejected, leave the country.(ap)

China will remain the main driver of growth in Asia this year despite its prolonged slowdown, helped by sustained expansions in other developing countries in the region, the World Bank said Monday.

World Bank: East Asian growth to remain over 6 pct in 2016

MANILA — Growth in developing East Asia and the Pacific is expected to remain resilient despite the slowdown in China and a gloomy global outlook, the World Bank said Monday.

Residents of Satria Kawan Palace at Paksebali village, Dawan implemented lukat geni tradition at catus pata (central intersection) of Paksebali vil-lage on new moon of the ninth month in Balinese calendar. The tradition having been implemented through genera-tions poses the purification of macrocosm and microcosm. The lukat geni followed by dozens of youth is carried out every night of the Pengerupu-kan to welcome the Caka New Year. Lukat Geni is interpreted as spiritual purification and the balance the universe by means of fire. The fire used is derived from a bundle of burned dried palm leaves.

Lukat geni tradition is started with a self-purification at sacred spring and perform-ing joint worship at family temple. Accompanied by ba-leganjur gamelan music and 33 torches, the participants of lukat geni headed for cen-tral intersection to start the procession. Here, dozens of youths taking part in the tra-dition of lukat geni hit their respective opponents in turns by means of fire set in palm leaves. No revenge is seen among the participants.

According to senior figure of Satria Kawan Palace, A.A. Gde Agung Rimawan, the lukat geni is a tradition having existed at Satria Kawan Pal-ace since long time ago. This tradition is held every year to welcome the Caka New Year. It poses a form of purification of macrocosm and microcosm. “Hopefully, with this lukat geni we can be bestowed with safety, both for ourselves and the surrounding environment,” said Rimawan.

He explained the lukat geni tradition uses fire of 36 pieces of dried palm leaves tied to-gether or summed into nine (9) located in the nine points of the compass or Dewata Nawa Sanga. In addition, the use of 33 torches represents the strength of 33 gods abiding in five places, namely the Eastern or White (5), South or Red (9), West or Yellow (7), North or Black (4) and Central or multicolor (8). “These signify the invocation of protection or safety for ritual processions in progress,” he explained.(kmb)

Met at his workshop at Kalan-ganyar hamlet, Nyuhtebel, Karan-gasem, Tawan was accompanied by his wife and little son. He was working on a robot to help his activities such as welding iron of household utensils ordered by resident. “The helper robot has worked and I just need to make it perfect,” he said.

A moment later, Tawan whose left arm remained tied with string in order not to droop took a remote control. He then moved the helper robot at a distance of about three meters. Hand of the robot moved to and fro as instructed by Tawan through his remote control.

Tawan claimed that he is inspired again to design the helper robot based on motivation of the Bali

Post reporter. Since he was sick and paralyzed seven months ago, the six workers having helped him work on his business have quitted. Practically, with his paralyzed left hand he must now work alone with the help of his wife. His wife is cleaning the junks in the garage also taken advantage as a bed. The junks are provided by two suppliers namely a deaf mute young man, Komang Nurata alias Aok, and an elderly local resident, Iwa Banu, 70. “So far, they are still willing to bring junks to us. Here we purchase their junks,” said Tawan.

Tawan is only a graduate of STM Rekayasa vocational school Denpasar. With the background of poor family while his father is paralyzed due to an accident, the

young Tawan migrated to Denpasar. He took odd jobs in order to be able to live and finance his own school tuition. In the morning before going to school, he worked as watchman and housekeeper at Dharma Praja. “Last week I was asked to speak before colleague students and teach-ers at STM Rekayasa. I was known to frequently go to school late. Yes, it happened because before going to school, I had to work in order to survive,” he said.

Tawan said that he is trying to help an elementary school teacher from Kubu village that has a leg problem. Having been refined for three times, the artificial leg can be used. He hoped the teacher can use the artificial leg comfortably and continue his service to educate the children of the nation from Kubu. “Previously, the artificial leg weighed 2.5 kg and Mr. Sriana com-plained about the weight. Finally, I re-designed so that it can be lighter, reaching 1.25 kg. Currently, I use iron because I do not have money to buy lighter yet stronger material,”

he explained.Currently, he added, he is also

completing an artificial leg for Wayan Kari. His previous prosthe-sis has been damaged and broken, and he could not afford a new one. “I have designed two pieces, one is manual and I also try to move another by driving machine,” he said.

Last week Tawan was visited by two groups from Denmark. One of the groups is television journalist while another is a company pro-ducing robots. Earlier, he was also frequently visited by electronic company and invited him to make cooperation. He admitted to be layman and does not know about intellectual property right mecha-nism and the like, so that he claimed to reject the offer. As a layman, he does not want to be exploited by people or large corporation.

“So far, I’d just like to work at home, including helping other peo-ple making me so sad because they are unable to work due to paralysis or broken legs,” he said. (013)

“If you are asking whether the secretary of state came to Hiro-shima to apologize, the answer is no,” the official said. “If you are asking whether the secretary -- and I think all Americans and all Japa-nese -- are filled with sorrow at the tragedies that befell so many of our countrymen, the answer is yes.”

Ahead of his visit to the memo-

rial, Kerry spoke with Fumio Kishi-da, the Japanese foreign minister. “My visit to Hiroshima has very special meaning about the strength of our relationship and the journey we have travelled together since the difficult time of the war,” Kerry said. “We will revisit the past and honor those who perished, (but) this trip is not about the past; it’s about the present and the future.”

The Japanese government and public hope the location of the sum-mit in Hiroshima will foster better

understanding among nations about Japan’s staunch nuclear stance.

Recent comments by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump proposing that Japan and South Korea arm themselves with nuclear weapons have raised eye-brows here in the country.

“For us to obtain nuclear weap-ons is completely inconceivable,” Kishida said Monday. But Kerry has much more than his visit to the Hiroshima memorial on the agenda. (ap)

SINGAPORE - A spat between Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his younger sister has blown into the open, one year after the death of their iron-handed father Lee Kuan Yew, who brooked no discord within the city-state’s political world.

Lee’s sister accused the prime minister in a Facebook post of abusing his power and forming a political dynasty, a highly unusual public comment in Singapore. It has sparked an online debate in a country where the Lee family is mostly held in high regard and where several of its critics have been sued for defamation.

“I am deeply saddened by my sister Dr. Lee Wei Ling’s claim that I have abused my power to com-memorate the one-year anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing in order to establish a dynasty. The accusations are completely untrue,” the prime minister said in a Face-book page on Sunday evening.

It was not immediately clear why the younger Lee accused her brother of forming a political “dynasty” or why she went public with the criticism. There has been no suggestion that any of the prime minister’s children would be keen to enter politics.

The prime minister’s post was viewed by about 18,000 readers, many of who commented that they were dismayed and saddened by the spat, and shared over 2,500 times. It was the lead front-page article in the pro-government Straits Times, the country’s biggest newspaper, and also covered by state-owned television.

The prime minister’s office declined further comment on Mon-day.

The people of Singapore are not used to political spats. The People’s Action Party, which has ruled the city-state since it won independence over 50 years ago, works by con-sensus and open criticism of public figures is rare.

The prime minister’s sister, a doc-tor, said she disapproved of the public activities held by the government in March to mark the first death anniver-sary of Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s founding prime minister.

In an article submitted to the Straits Times last month, she had said Lee Kuan Yew would have “cringed at the hero worship just one year after his death”. The news-paper did not publish the article and she posted it online.

Straits Times Editor Warren Fer-nandez said the newspaper’s editors were working with her to get it ready for print. “But some concerns arose, including over the plagia-rised paragraphs. In addition, we found her ultimatum to either print her piece unedited or she would go online, totally unacceptable.”

In a Facebook post detailing her exchanges with the newspaper’s editors, which has since been re-moved, the sister said, using the initials of her brother and father:

“HL has no qualms about abus-ing his power to hv (sic) a com-memoration just one year after LKY died” and that “if the power that be wants to establish a dynasty, LKY’s daughter will not allow LKY’s name to be sullied by a dishonour-able son.” (rtr)

The six were assembly speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, deputy speaker Merry Hotma, member S. Nurndi, chairman of legislation division Mohamad Taufik, member of the legislation division Mohamad Sangaji and deputy speaker Ferial Sofyan.

“The six were questioned as witnesses in the case of Mohamad Sanusi,” a KPK head of publica-tion Priharsa Nugraha said here on Monday.

KPK also summoned head of the draft regional regulation sub-

division Dameria Hutagalung for questioning in the same case.

KPK already raided the offices of the DPRD leaders on April 1 confiscating bundles of documents in the process of investigations. The anti graft agency also raided the houses of Sanusi on 8 April 2016.

Five other people implicated in the case were banned from leaving the country including the director secretary of PT Agung Podomoro Land (APL) Berlian, an employee of PT APL Gerry Prasetya, special

staff of Jakarta governor Sunny Ta-nuwidjaya, Director of Agung Sed-ayu Group Richard Halim Kusuma and a senior executive of Agung Sedayu Group Sugianto Kusuma alias Aguan Sugianto.

PT Agung Podomoro Land (APL), Agung Sedayu and PT APL are involved as contractors for the reclamation of the Jakarta bay.

KPK has also named President Director of PT Agung Podomoro Arieswan Widjaja as a suspect in the graft case charged with bribing chairman of the Gerindra faction at the city council Mohamad Sanusi Rp2 billion to guarantee that the regional regulation favoring the reclamation project could be passed into law. PALU - A new unit of the hydro power plant (PLTA) of Sulewana Poso in Central Sulawesi is ex-pected to come on line in 2018.

“Construction of the power plant with a capacity of 4 x 30 megawatts (MW) is expected to be completed in two years,” Mustakim, the man-ager of the contractor PT Poso Energy, said here on Monday.

The new unit would be built by phases with the first phase to have a capacity of 2 x 30 MW. Construc-

tion of the first phase would include a dam upstream.

The project, which is estimated to cost Rp2 trillion is not far from PLTA Posos older unit which has been operational since 2013 of the plant.

Mustakim said the dam would control water supply in that area in addition to feeding the power plant including the old unit. The old unit built at a cost of Rp3.5 trillion has a capacity of 3 x 65 MW. (ant)

JAKARTA - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla attended the closing cer-emony of PPP congress at Pondok Gede Hajj Dormitory, East Jakarta, Sunday. Kalla was greeted by Re-ligius Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and PPP General Chairman Romahurmuziy.

The United Development Party (PPP) held the congress on April 8-10 which elected Romahurmuziy by acclamation as its chairman. The Pondok Gede congress was attended by 1,062 party members.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially opened the congress, ex-pressing his hope that PPP would be reunited again after a prolonged dispute between PPP led by Djan Faridz and rival PPP led by Roma-hurmuziy.

The leadership of the PPP has split into two rival camps respec-tively led by Djan Faridz and Roma-hurmuziy, better known as Romi.

Romi and his colleagues who have been supporting the current government, held a congress in Surabaya, East Java, in October 2014, which Romi as the new PPP chairman for the 2014-2019 period.

The then PPP chairman, Surya Dharma Ali, who was absent in the Surabaya congress and had an-nounced his support the opposition coalition, was dismissed.

However, in November 2014, Surya Dharma Ali, who was fac-ing a corruption charge, and his colleagues organized a congress in Jakarta and elected Djan Faridz to succeed Ali for the 2014-2019 period.

The Justice and Human Rights Ministry, which has the author-ity to legalize a partys leadership structure, however, issued a decree

recognizing PPP under the chair-manship of Romi. Djan Faridz took a legal action to solve the dispute.

Both district court and the Su-preme Court have issued verdicts in favor of PPP under the leadership of Djan Faridz and considered the ministrys decree that recognized the Romi leadership, invalid.

The ministry on January 7, 2016, issued another decree that revoked its recognition of the Romi-led PPP, but did mention about the Faridz-led PPP.

Following comments that the ministerial decree caused a vacuum of PPP leadership, Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly told the press on February 17, 2016, that he issued another decree that recognized the PPP leadership elected in the Bandung congress in 2011 and called for a conciliatory congress to elect PPP leadership.

“Validating again the Decree of the Justice and Human Rights Minister Number: HH-20-AH, 11.01 Year 2012 dated September 4, 2012, on the PPP leadership Structure resulted from the Band-ung Congress in 2011 for the period of six months,” Yasonna Laoly told the media.

The Bandung congress had elected Surya Dharma Ali as the PPP chairman and Romi as the secretary general.

The Djan Faridz camp however has refused to accept the ministers two decrees for failing to respect the verdicts of the Supreme Court (MA) and the previous court, which have decided that the Djan Faridz-led PPP is the valid one.

Faridz has considered the Pon-dok Gede congress illegal and planned to bring the case to court again. (ant)

Kenya’s attorney-general said in January it was considering a request from Beijing to extradite 76 Chinese charged with cyber crime in Kenya for trial in their homeland.

But Taiwan said some of these people were actually from Taiwan and that a total of 23 of its people had been acquitted last Tuesday by a Kenyan court and given 21 days to leave.

Yet China pressured Kenyan police to put eight of the Taiwanese nationals on to a Chinese jet bound for China on Friday, Taiwan’s For-eign Ministry said. It did not say how they were taken.

“This is an uncivilized act of illegal kidnapping and a serious violation of basic human rights,” the ministry said in a statement, adding it was demanding the immediate return of the eight.

Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party, which distrusts China, also weighed in on the is-sue, demanding China “repatriate our people and guarantee their legal rights”.

China views Taiwan as a way-ward province, to be brought under Beijing’s control by force if neces-sary. Defeated Nationalist forces fled to the island in 1949 after a civil war with the Communists now in control in Beijing.

Only 22 countries recognise Taiwan, with most, including Ke-nya, having diplomatic relations with Beijing, recognising its “one

China” policy. Taiwan had sent of-ficials from its representative office in South Africa to Kenya to try to deal with the case as it has no of-fice in Kenya, the Foreign Ministry added.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokes-man Lu Kang said he needed to “fur-ther understand” the situation, when asked during a regular news briefing on Monday. “But in principle, coun-tries which follow the ‘one China’ principle are worthy of approval,” he added, without elaborating.

China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, which oversees relations with Tai-wan, said in a short statement sent to Reuters it was trying to find out what

had happened. China’s Ministry of Public Security did not respond to a request for comment. Kenyan government officials were not im-mediately available for comment.

Ties between Taiwan and China rapidly improved after the China-friendly Ma Ying-jeou took power in 2008 as Taiwan president and signed a series of landmark trade and business deals.

But China has looked on with suspicion at Taiwan since Tsai Ing-wen and her independence-leaning DPP won presidential and parlia-mentary elections in January.

Last month, China resumed ties with former Taiwan ally Gambia. China and Taiwan had for years tried to poach each other’s allies, often dangling ]generous aid packages in front of leaders of developing nations. (rtr)

SOUTH CAROLINA - Ameri-can seventh seed Sloane Stephens captured her third title of 2016 by defeating Russian qualifier Elena Vesnina 7-6(4) 6-2 in the final of the Volvo Car Open clay court event in South Carolina on Sunday.

The 23-year-old American raced out to a 5-2 lead before Vesnina, the 2011 Charleston finalist, used a slew of winners to win four consecutive games before moving within one point of winning the opening set.

Stephens, however, held her nerve producing some of her best tennis in the tiebreak before cruis-ing through the second set.

“I just said to myself, ‘You have to fight for every point and compete.’ She’s a great player, so I knew I had to stay in every point,” said Stephens.

“When I got a couple of op-portunities, I took them, so that was great.”

The win marked the fourth career WTA title for an in-form

Stephens, who has been close to her best for nearly a year after winning her maiden title in Washington last August followed by wins this year in Auckland and Acapulco.

Stephens, who was 1-5 in Charleston before this week, had two straight-set wins to open the tournament and then saved a match point against rising Russian teen Daria Kasatkina in the quarter-finals.

She faced defending champion Angelique Kerber in the semi-finals where she had a 6-1 3-0 lead before the top-seeded German retired with a viral illness.

Vesnina had caught fire on the unique green clay courts of Charleston where she arrived as the world number 85 and having won two matches in the qualifying.

En route to becoming the first qualifier to make the Charleston final in the tournament’s 44 years, Vesnina upset Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic in the second round and Ita-ly’s Sara Errani in the semis. (rtr)

Spain’s Marquez was again in a race of his own at the Circuit of the Americas track, starting on pole position for the fourth successive year and pulling away after a brief tussle on the opening lap with Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo.

World champion Lorenzo finished sec-ond, 6.107 seconds behind his compatriot, and Italian Andrea Iannone was third on a Ducati.

The win was Marquez’s second in a row, and 26th in MotoGP, and left the double world champion on 66 points after three races. Lorenzo moved up to second overall on 45, with Rossi remain-ing on 33.

Marquez was challenged only at the start, with Lorenzo leading into the first corner before running wide and doing the same at turn 11.

The Honda rider then had a controlled run to his 10th successive victory on U.S. soil, which includes eight MotoGP races and two in Moto2, before raising four fingers in the air in triumph.

GOOD RACE“I think I did a really good race and

I feel really great on this circuit,” said Marquez. “The race was not fun but

we took 25 points which was the most important.”

Rossi crashed out from sixth place on the third lap, with the Yamaha squirming away from him and into the gravel. It was the first time in 25 races that he had failed to finish in the top five.

Lorenzo fell behind Andrea Dovizioso in the battle for second place but re-took the Italian on lap five with the Ducati rider then taken out by Marquez’s Spanish team mate Dani Pedrosa on the seventh lap.

Pedrosa lost control, with the bike sliding away from under him and straight into the Ducati.

It was the second race in a row that Dovizioso had been eliminated by a rival while in a podium position. In Argentina last weekend he was felled by team mate Iannone in a final-lap drama.

Pedrosa went to apologise to Dovizioso in the Ducati garage after the race.

British pair Cal Crutchlow and Brad-ley Smith both crashed at turn 11, with Smith’s Yamaha just missing the LCR Honda rider.

Spaniard Maverick Vinales finished fourth for Suzuki after a thrilling battle with team mate Aleix Espargaro. (rtr)

Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez and Cristiano Ronaldo (R) react

98 Tuesday, April 12, 2016

Sp rtTuesday, April 12, 2016

“Tuesday will be like a war, with 80,000 spectators; we are going to try and walk all over Wolfs-burg,” said defender Dani Carvajal. “We’re going to play to the death and with 80,000 souls behind us we will do it,” added winger Lucas Vazquez.

Forward Cristiano Ronaldo told the club website (www.realmadrid.com): “We need to have cold hearts and play with patience and know how to suffer. Getting through is our big objective, it’s the only thing that will let the players and fans leave the stadium happy.”

Madrid are third in La Liga and enjoyed a 4-0 win over Eibar on Saturday to close the gap with leaders Barcelona to four points, lifting their confidence after the shock 2-0 defeat at Wolfsburg last Wednesday.

The German side are eighth in the Bundesliga and were held 1-1 by Mainz on Saturday. Coach Dieter Hecking made four changes from the team that beat Madrid and was without Mario Draxler, the outstanding player last week, through suspension.

Real, 10 times European cham-pions, have a history littered with great comebacks at the Bernabeu, beginning with a 5-1 win over Derby County in the 1975 Euro-pean Cup after they had lost 4-1 in England.

Madrid beat Inter Milan 3-0 to reach the final of the 1985 UEFA Cup after losing the semi-final first leg 2-0, when midfielder Juanito famously warned Inter: “Ninety minutes in the Bernabeu is a very long time”.

Madrid also staged successful second-leg comebacks against Celtic, Anderlecht, Red Star Bel-grade and Borussia Moenchenglad-bach but their reputation as miracle workers is waning and they last overturned a deficit in 2002 when they beat Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Bernabeu in a quarter-final second leg on their way to winning the trophy.

Since then, Madrid have lost eight first-leg games in the Cham-pions League knockout stages and failed to progress every time, exiting last season’s tournament to Juventus 3-2 on aggregate and managing only a 2-0 win over

Borussia Dortmund in the 2013 semi-finals after losing the first leg 4-1.

Yet Madrid’s self belief remains strong. “We’re going to turn it around because everyone who comes to the stadium and follows us deserves it, our badge deserves it and we work all year for those big nights,” said defender Nacho.

“Real Madrid’s history was written on nights like these and I

hope we can do it again on Tues-day,” added director and former striker Emilio Butragueno, who played in the famous comebacks against Inter, Anderlecht and Gladbach.

Wolfsburg, though, are equally determined. “On Tuesday we’ll be at 100 million percent, we’re going to run as if our lives depended on it,” forward Andre Schurrle told German news agency DPA.

“Since we beat Real Madrid the entire city has been talking about that game and the second leg. It won’t be easy.”

Ranieri was moved to tears after his team outfoxed relegation-threatened Sunderland to move within nine points of their first-ever English top flight title.

Jamie Vardy ended a six game goal drought with his 20th and 21st of the season as Leicester recorded a 2-0 away win on Sunday to stay seven points clear of Tottenham Hotspur with five games remaining.

“It’s difficult to say how I feel inside but I’m not complaining,” said Ranieri, who was in tears applauding at the final whistle.

“We got three points in a difficult, anxious match. Sunderland are very, very difficult to play against.

“At halftime, I talked to him (Vardy). I said: ‘Come on Jamie, we need you... I need you.’ And he spoke.”

The emotional Italian also thanked Leicester supporters for cheering the team on to victory which left them three wins from the title. Leicester’s previous best top flight finish was second in the 1928/29 campaign

“It’s fantastic when you see before the match, an old lady with a Leicester shirt outside the stadium. I say: ‘Unbelievable. They come from Leicester to support us,’

he added.“This is my emotion. It is fantastic. I

was on the bus. I saw them, unbelievable, and I want to say thank you for the support.

They are dreaming and we want to continue to dream. “To do this we must stay concentrated.

This is an amazing season for us, for our fans, for our chairman, for me, for everyone.

“Other people can continue to talk about the title. It is important we stay focused on the next

match. I said this to the players.“Now we have two matches at home, the first against West Ham United, a very difficult match because they are a fantastic team with good players. And then, after that, it is

Swansea (City), another very difficult match. We must stay focused.” (rtr)

forts and vocal support to avoid Premier League relegation. Newcastle lost 3-1 at Southampton on Saturday, their sixth defeat in seven games, to stay 19th, six points from safety.

Benitez, though, retained hope of avoid-ing the drop with four of their final six games at home starting with Swansea City on Saturday.

“We have to start winning soon and change a lot of things: the commitment, the passion, the character, the way that we play,” Benitez said after his side’s lacklustre defen-sive display at St Mary’s Stadium.

“We have to start by winning the first one. If... we score a goal and get the three points... then we’ll have more belief and confidence and the players will realise that we can do it.

“At the moment any single individual mistake is killing the team mentally. So we have to be sure for the next one that we will not make mistakes.” Benitez urged the club’s fans to stay behind the team.

“The fans will be crucial for us because we need them pushing and supporting the players,” the former Valencia, Liverpool and Real Madrid manager said.

“At the end of the season we’ll have time to analyse what was going on, but now is the time to stick together.” (rtr)

PaLerMO — Police have arrested eight fans for involve-ment in clashes before Sunday’s heated Palermo-Lazio match. The clashes occurred in the center of Palermo and the situation carried over to the stadium, where home fans threw fireworks and halted the game in each half.

The match was stopped for nearly five minutes in the second half — the longest of the two interruptions — after a firework exploded seconds after Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva ran past it.

Fans of relegation-threatened Palermo also threw seats onto

the pitch before the situation improved. Around 300 people protested outside the stadium in Sicily after the match, which Lazio won 3-0.

Third from the bottom of the standings, Palermo visits Ital-ian league leader Juventus next weekend. (ap)

BOGOta — Soccer players in Colombia sat down on the field to protest a decision to play matches during the day to help the govern-ment stave off an energy crisis.

The sit-down protests lasted only a few minutes and took place in at least eight stadiums

hosting top-tier matches during the weekend.

Players say they weren’t con-sulted about the change and warn that playing games during the tropical daytime heat is dangerous and could lead to dehydration.

President Juan Manuel Santos

has called on Colombians to contribute to an energy-saving plan to avoid having to imple-ment rationing as drought-like conditions caused by the El Nino weather phenomenon dry out dams across the South American country. (ap)

(rtr)

(rtr)

(kmb35)

(kmb36)

(rtr)

MANGUPURA - The government of Badung continues to increase the source of income in order

to boost the region-ally generated revenue

(PAD). This richest district begins to design so that the regional

budget can increase revenue by building hotel and gas station.

It was stated by Deputy Regent of Badung, Ketut Suiasa, Sunday (Apr. 10). This Golkar politician said that according to the regent’s directive, the government is now drafting the manage-ment of the Badung regional budget. Other than directed to provision of local

HIROSHIMA - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has become the first sitting secretary of state to visit the revered memorial to the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima. Kerry, EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini and other foreign ministers from the Group of Seven, who are in Japan for two days of talks, visited the site of the world’s first use of an atomic weapon in warfare on Monday local time.

Their trip was a stark reminder that looming over the current round of G7 talks is the history of the city they’re being held in. It also comes a day after State Depart-ment official said Kerry won’t apologize for the twin bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Hiroshima was devastated when the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on the city in August 1945. The bomb, which led to the end of World War II, killed 140,000 people -- either initially from the impact or later due to radiation exposure.

Three days later, the U.S. dropped a second bomb on the port city of Nagasaki, killing about 70,000 people. Under tight security, the diplomats laid wreaths at Peace Memorial Park then walked to the Atomic Bomb Dome. The ruin, which is the only structure left standing near the bomb’s hypocenter, services a as a memorial to the people killed in the bombing.

Beforehand, they toured the peace museum docu-menting the devastating impact of the attack, which houses victims’ and survivors’ burnt clothing and personal effects. Together, these three sites stand as a powerful symbol for nuclear disarmament.

??”Everyone in the world should see and feel the power of this memorial. It is a stark, harsh, compelling reminder not only of our obligation to end the threat of nuclear weapons, but to rededicate all our effort to avoid war itself,” Kerry wrote in a message in the site’s guestbook. “War must be the last resort -- never the first choice. This memorial compels us all to redouble our efforts to change the world, to find peace and build the future so yearned for by citizens everywhere.”

Despite the message’s pacific tone, a senior State Department official traveling with Kerry said em-phatically that America’s top diplomat will not issue an apology for its use of nuclear weapons and the devastation it causes.
