LONDON - Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher is putting his past behind him, releasing a new solo album, ruling out a reunion with his brother Liam and even being nice about one-time arch-rivals Blur.

Oasis split five years ago after nearly two decades of fractious sib-ling rivalry between guitarist Noel and his younger brother Liam, the band’s frontman.

“I haven’t seen him for about five months but we text quite a lot. It’s usually him insulting me,” laughs Gallagher, during an interview with AFP in London.

Liam’s post-Oasis band Beady Eye recently broke up as well but he is quick to dismiss any suggestion of a reunion with his 42-year-old brother. “The answer is no,” he says.

His new album “Chasing Yes-terday”, his second since the band split, is released on March 2 and features his signature combination of layered guitars and elliptical lyrics.

The star is full of enthusiasm for the life of a solo artist, perhaps recalling the arguments and dramas which accompanied Oasis’s global success, selling 60 million albums

and scoring hits like “Wonder-wall” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.

“It’s more rewarding, it’s more fulfilling. I like being in charge of everything,” he says. “I just write songs and I collect the songs together and I make an album out of them.”

Gallagher is now a 47-year-old family man with three children who is more likely to be found watching his beloved Manchester City than indulging a rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

His legendary bile towards musi-cians whose work he does not rate has not diminished with age.

“Beyonce, not for me. My wife loves her but she’s got no taste. Katy Perry? Even my daughter hates her and she’s 15. Sam Smith? Not for me,” he says.

“Traditional rock stars are like wild animals -- Mick Jagger or my brother,” he adds.

“They don’t give a fuck. Modern rock stars, Alex Turner (of Arctic Monkeys) or Sergio from Kasabian, they do give a fuck, they care about their hair style, they care about what they think.”

He is more forgiving towards Oasis’s old Britpop rivals Blur, who this month announced their

first new album in 12 years, “The Magic Whip”.

“I think it will probably be very good if it in any way represents what Damon (Albarn, Blur’s front-man) has been doing recently,” Gallagher says.

“Old groups are great but what really lets old groups down, they don’t fucking write good songs any more.”

He does not even rule out work-ing with Albarn in future.

“I would like to. We’re both gonna be busy boys for the next couple of years. But you never know,” he says. (afp)

Alcon Entertainment announced Ford’s role Thursday and said Scott will serve as an executive producer on the sequel. Production on the film will begin in the summer of 2016.

Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, and Michael Green have written a script based on an idea from Fancher and Scott. The story will take place several decades after the events at the conclusion of the 1982 film. A director has not yet been confirmed for the project. (ap)

LOS ANGELES — Bruce Wil-lis is not saying “Yippie-ki-yay” about the cancellation of his latest film. A spokesman for Willis told The Associated Press Friday that production of “Wake” was suddenly halted this week when financing fell through, and the actor is concerned that crew members who joined him “in good faith” are left jobless.

Publicist Paul Bloch said the

company responsible for financing the film didn’t deliver the promised funds, so production of the action-thriller was indefinitely suspended. Shooting began earlier this month in Cleveland.

Benaroya Pictures did not return calls and emails seeking comment Friday.

“Wake” was also to star Ben Kingsley and Ellen Burstyn. (ap)

Who says bartenders have a poor image? Even those who have an occu-pation can add personal value to them-selves by learning this craft. Putu Endra Mulana Jaya is proof of this. has proved it. After getting seriously involved the world of bartending he realized that this profession is not only stylish but also adds to skill set and ability to earn a good living.

Endra as he is familiarly addressed was born in Denpasar in 1988 and has been been involved in bartending since college where he learned both flair bartending and mixology. His journey has brought him to work as a bartender at the Grand Istana Rama Hotel and now he is developing his career as a flair bartending instructor at the Bali Hotel School.

Due to his diligence, Endra often participates in local, national and even international bartending competitions. He won second place for the ‘Flair in Horror Indonesia Open Bartender Competition’ of 2013, finalist in the Asia Bar Pro Flair Challenge Phuket Thailand 2013, the International Open Finalist of Good Bartender Champion-ship 2013 in Kuala Lumpur and many

others as well. The reputation of the achievements

of Bali and Indonesia in the world of bartending is anchored on in the fact that the bartenders do not get drunk. Although bartend-ing is synonymous with alcohol and nightlife, the outcome highly depends on individual choices. When done wisely, bartending has many positive sides. “Being a bartender, I can channel my hobby, increase my self-confidence, entertain people and even derive a source of income” he said smiling.

Endra said that by studying bartend-ing, one could understand all the different aspects involved and be able to control oneself. In contrast, it could be very dangerous if someone with no knowledge about the drinks sim-ply wanted to be seen as the Star of the Bar. The profession of bartending is an art, and the

performer should be a professional role model for the public.

Endra explained that becoming a bartender requires diligently practic-

ing, diligently studying, being dis-ciplined to concentrate and always developing new skills. “Being a good bartender means one should be able to control ones attitude and be humble, friendly and obe-dient to the rules,” explained this

young man who aspires to become an international bartender. (ocha)

General Manager of Ngurah Rai airport, Herry A.Y. Sikado, said that the unlicensed vehicules were not allowed to operate at the airport. “We want to eliminate the practices of the unlicensed transport services and discipline airport taxi drivers who offered their services outside the official counter provided,” said Herry.

Through the law enforcement operation, officials wanted to educate taxi drivers that the airport was a tourism gate that should be well run. On that account, all the elements involved should provide the best services for travelers. Providing passengers with easy access to public trans-port complemented by orderly behavior of drivers is the objective. “It is not allowed to offer services in any place because it will interfere with the comfort of passengers,” he explained.

From the operation, it could be netted some unlicensed transports operating at the airport. Furthermore, they were given guidance and explanation at the pick-up zone of the airport terminal by Chief of Airport Police, Ni Nyoman Wismawati, Public Area & Perimeter Security Section Head, I Wayan Majuarsa, as well as Chairman of the Airport Profession and Security Unit, I Made Luther.

“It is an early warning for the unauthorized transport services still operating at the airport. It is meant to ensure a deterrent effect to the illegal transport. If in the future we still find such practice again, we will take decisive action,” said Herry. The enforcement measure involved 16 officers of the Airport Security, 11 personnel of Denpasar Police Riot Squad and 17 personnel of the Airport Police.

Spokesperson of Denpasar Police, Sugriwo, when asked for his confirmation claimed to have not received any report related to the results of the operation. “We have not received the report yet. Let me check first,” said Sugriwo. (kmb36)

DENPASAR - Dozens of Den-pasar police searched the hotel room of an American traveler on Jalan Mahendradatta in West Den-pasar on Sunday (Feb.5) and seized a substance believed to be marijua-na. The 31 year old man, with the initials SC, occupying Room 308 was arrested. Examination by the forensic laboratory, confirmed that the substance was marijuana.

At the same time, Ganefo an-nounced seven other drug arrests during the period. “We still have three months. They might come because cruise operators want to know what tourism objects and attractions to be offered to cruise passengers,” Organizing Committee Chairman of BBTF 2015 I Ketut Ardana said on Sunday.

Bali will invite cruise operators to bring more foreign tourists to the island.

A big cruise ship could carry more than 5,000 tourists that usually stay longer in luxurious hotels and spend a lot of money, he said.

Bali has adequate harbor infrastruc-ture to accommodate cruise ships, he added.

Benoa Seaport in Denpasar often receives foreign cruise ships but mostly of medium seize with one thousand to two thousand passengers, he noted.

BBTF 2015 is expected to be participated in by hundreds of travel agents including 50 platinum travel agents from various countries that

could bring at least 10 thousand tour-ists per year.

Some 325 potential buyers are also expected to take part in the fair. The buyers are among other things from the United States, European nations, Middle Eastern countries, South Africa, North and South Asians, India, ASEAN member nations, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Latin American countries.

Some 370 sellers from various fields such as hoteliers, travel agents, corporations, transportation compa-nies, and restaurants, are also expected to join the travel fair. Last year, 278 sellers participated in the event.

The implementation of the travel fair will cost some Rp23.2 billion, up from Rp21.7 billion last year.

The Indonesian government has targeted to attract 12 million foreign tourists this year, and 20 million by 2019. (ant)

DENPASAR - Bali’s earned US$5.44 million from the exports of textiles and textile products (TPT) in January 2015, up 8.43 percent from December 2014.

“The export value, however, shrank 18.49 percent from US$6.67 million in January 2014,” head of the provincial office of the Central Bureau of Statis-tics Panasunan Siregar said on Sunday. Siregar said TPT exports contributed

14.29 percent to Bali’s total export earning of US$38.08 million in Janu-ary 2015.

Bali’s total exports in 2014 reached US$109.99 million, down 9.36 per-cent from US$121.53 million in the previous year.

Siregar said exports have been made mainly to the United States, Singapore, Australia , China and Eu-ropean countries. (ant)

DENPASAR - The warden of the Denpasar class II-A penitentiary Sudjonggo has denied the imple-mentation of a joint exercise for the relocation of narcotics convicts from Australia Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

“There is no exercise, all is run-ning as usual,” Sudjonggo stated.

According to Sudjonggo, the preparation for the departure of the drug convicts is still ongoing and just awaiting orders to proceed.

In the meantime, the Bali pro-vincial police have prepared over 100 personnel to secure the transfer of the Australian drug convicts in death row.

On April 17, 2005, the two Australians were caught in Bali trying to smuggle to Australia 8.3 kilograms of heroin worth some Rp40 billion.

Indonesia had recently executed six drug convicts as part of its ef-forts to combat drug trafficking in the country.

The six convicts were Namaona Denis of Malawi, Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira of Brazil, Dan-iel Enemuo, alias Diarrassouba Mamadou, of Nigeria, Ang Kiem Soei, alias Kim Ho, alias Ance Tahir, of the Netherlands, Rani Andriani, alias Melisa Aprilia, of Indonesia, and Tran Thi Bich Hanh of Vietnam.

As many as 18 thousand people die per year in Indonesia due to drug addiction.

President Joko Widodo is re-solved to not pardon narcotics convicts and to maintain a firm stance with regard to efforts to fight drug offenses, which he views as dangerous.

“I have stressed that I will not

pardon drug convicts who have been given capital punishment,” the president stated.

Jokowi revealed that, at pres-ent, an average of 50 deaths occur every day due to narcotics abuse, which means some 18 thousand victims die due to drug addiction each year.

AwaitedThe final confirmation is awaited

regarding flying Myuran Sukuma-ran and Andrew Chan, the Austra-lian drug convicts on death row, out of Bali Island to Nusakambangan Penitentiary, Central Java, noted the Ngurah Rai International Airport authority.

“We have yet to receive the final confirmation. We are still waiting for it,” Ngurah Rai International Airport’s Co-General Manager I Gusti Ngurah Ardita informed.

Ardita said he was ready to pro-vide the related authorized parties with special access at the airport to facilitate the transfer of the two ringleaders of the drug smuggling group called Bali Nine to Nusakam-bangan Prison.

He, however, was reluctant to divulge details regarding the places that will be used as special access at the international airport for transporting the two Australian drug convicts.

“We have no authority to dis-close technical matters regarding the transportation of the two Austra-lian prisoners because the authority belongs to the prosecution office and security apparatus,” he noted.

Certain elements in the Austra-lian society also echoed calls for boycotting the Indonesian resort island of Bali’s tourism industry if

Jakarta proceeded with its plan to execute Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan.

In response to the Australian threats, Bali Governor Made Mang-ku Pastika urged his people to stay calm over Australia’s threat to boycott the resort island’s tourism industry.

“Please remain calm. It (the ex-ecution) will not be a problem, and I believe that it will not badly affect Bali’s tourism industry. This case is related to our nation’s sovereignty and dignity,” he affirmed. (ant)

When Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy visited China in September, he announced that visa applications from the country’s travellers would be processed within 48 hours.

The government is also in talks with Asian airlines to boost traf-fic through Madrid’s underused airport by offering reduced fees and promoting Spain as a hub for travel to Latin America.

So far only one airline, Air China, offers direct flights be-tween Spain and China seven times a week. In contrast, Italy has 28 direct weekly flights to China, France has 70 and Germany 87.

While Chinese travellers usu-ally visit several countries dur-ing a trip to Europe, they are unlikely to include Spain if they land in another country because of its geographic location, said University of London lecturer Keven Lathan, author of a book

on Chinese tourism in Europe.“Spain’s location is less cen-

tral. You have to add two to three days to make it feasible. There is not much you can do about it,” he said at a recent tourism fair in Madrid.

China has been the world’s fastest-growing source of tourists over the past decade due to rising incomes and the easing of restric-tions on foreign travel, according to the Madrid-based UN World Tourism Organization.

Over 100 million Chinese are expected to make trips abroad this year.

Spain is the world’s third-most visited country after France and the United States and has long been a favourite sunshine destina-tion for Europeans who flock to its beaches.

States welcomed 1.8 million Chi-nese visitors in 2013, the last year figures are available, while France received over 1.2 million Chinese tourists that year.

“We are clearly missing the train of Chinese tourism,” said Hilario Alfaro, the president of the Madrid Business Forum, a lobby group.

While travel industry lead-ers welcomed Spain’s moves to attract Chinese tourists, they la-mented that Madrid was lagging behind other Western nations.

Spain has just three consulates in China that can issue entry visas, compared to eight in France, said Alfaro.

And Spain requires Chinese applicants to pick up their visas in person, which discourages would-be travellers from cities that do not have a consulate, he added.

Fast visas and dim sum

Spain seeks to attract Chinese touristsMADRID - Spanish five-star hotels are serving up white rice for breakfast as Spain offers

quicker visas and seeks more direct flights from China to tap into the surging wave of Chinese tourists.

France offers home delivery of entry visas while the US allows them to be picked up at bank branches across China.

“You should give a medal or build a monument for any Chinese who manages to arrive in Spain directly from China since it is so difficult,” Alfaro said.

Tourism accounts for 10.9 per-cent of Spain’s economic output and one in nine jobs.

The tourism sector has taken steps to adapt to the tastes of Chinese visitors, who are one of the biggest spenders among for-eign visitors to Spain, as part of a broader strategy to attract more urban travel.

Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which houses many 19th century Impressionist paint-ings, last year started offering maps in Mandarin, the first major museum in the Spanish capital to do so.

Spanish department store chain El Corte Ingles’ flagship Madrid store offers special services for Chinese tourists, including a gift

guide in Mandarin and a top-end Chinese restaurant.

Some hotels are also adapting by offering small comforts to please Chinese visitors.

Madrid’s five-star Silken Puerta America hotel revamped the menu of its cafeteria to cater to Chinese tastes, including items such as noodles with chicken, dim sum and white rice at breakfast.

The hotel also offers access to a Chinese TV station, Madrid travel guides in Mandarin and rooms with Chinese guests are equipped with an electric tea kettle.

The avant-garde hotel received over 6,000 Chinese guests last year, more than double the 2013 figure.

It is one of a handful of Spanish hotels that have obtained a cer-tificate labelling them as “Chinese Friendly” because they have met a list of requirements deemed nec-essary to adapt to Chinese tastes.

“We have to adapt so the client feels at home,” said the spokes-woman for the Silken hotel chain, Sara Diaz. (afp)

Airservices Australia, a govern-ment-owned agency that manages the country’s airspace, will work with its Malaysian and Indonesian counterparts to test the new method, which would enable planes to be tracked every 15 minutes, rather than the previous rate of 30 to 40 minutes, Australian Transport Min-ister Warren Truss said. The track-ing would increase to 5 minutes or less if there is a deviation in the plane’s movements.

The trial is expected to use satellite-based positioning technol-ogy already on board 90 percent of long-haul aircraft that transmits the plane’s current position and its next two planned positions, said Airservices Australia chairman Angus Houston, who helped lead the search for Flight 370.

The trial would boost the fre-quency in which planes would automatically report their position,

allowing air traffic controllers to better track them, Houston said.

“This is not a silver bullet,” Houston told reporters in the na-tion’s capital, Canberra. “But it is an important step in delivering im-mediate improvements to the way we currently track aircraft while more comprehensive solutions are developed.”

There is no requirement for real-time tracking of commercial aircraft and ever since Flight 370 disappeared, air safety regulators and airlines have been trying to agree on how extensively planes should be tracked. The Boeing 777 veered sharply off-course and vanished from radar shortly into its flight on March 8.

An international team of experts who analyzed a series of hourly transmissions between the plane and a satellite later determined that the plane traveled for another seven

hours before crashing somewhere within a remote 60,000 square ki-lometer (23,000 square mile) patch of the Indian Ocean. An extensive, monthslong search of that area is still underway, but nothing has yet been found.

Houston warned that new meth-od being trialed would not nec-essarily have allowed air traffic controllers to monitor Flight 370 — whose transponder and other tracking equipment shut down dur-ing the flight — to the point where it crashed.

“I think we’ve got to be very, very careful because you can turn this system off,” he said. “What would have happened while the sys-tem is operating, we’d know exactly where the aircraft was. If somebody had turned the system off, we’re in the same set of circumstances as we’ve experienced on the latter part of the flight of MH370.”(ap)

ISHINOMAKI, Japan — Brit-ain’s Prince William stood atop a hill in northeastern Japan on Sun-day, and stretched below him was barren land known as the “Bay of Destruction,” which was swept by a tsunami four years ago.

On the last leg of his four-day visit to Japan, William laid a bouquet near a shrine gate that overlooks the bay, to commemorate the victims. Of the nearly 19,000 people who died in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, nearly 3,300 were residents of the coastal town of Ishinomaki. About 22,000 lost their homes.

The tragedy of Ishinomaki has been repeated across the shoreline, where communities are still try-ing to rebuild, mourning lost lives and worried about the future, as the younger generation leaves in droves. Thousands of people are still living in temporary housing, and many are dependent on aid for food and clothing.

William, who earlier visited more lively and modern spots in To-kyo, had insisted that his first-ever trip to Japan include the tsunami-stricken region.

Teruko Sekiguchi, a 42-year-old housewife and Ishinomaki resident, waited for the prince’s arrival on

top of the hill in the cold rain for more than an hour. She said she was touched that he would come all the way out to the disaster region. “He is gorgeous. You can feel his kindness,” she said.

When the tsunami hit, Seki-guchi fled to a nearby junior high school and waited for a week, feeling miserable, not even knowing whether her husband, a schoolteacher, had survived. When he finally came to find her, she was so overjoyed she just cried and couldn’t even walk toward him, she recalled.

Although the area below the hill, previously filled with small homes, has been cleaned of debris, no one will live there again. Plans are still being studied to turn it into a park.

“It’s like the area has been finally cleaned up enough into a white canvas so we can start painting on it,” said Kimio Abe, 76, who heads a company that installs heating and air conditioning units.

Abe was also among the crowd of about 80 people waiting on the hilltop for the prince. Abe’s home, near the hill, was half destroyed by the tsunami, but he fixed it and still lives in one room with his wife.(ap)

Better plane tracking trialed after Malaysia plane mystery

SYDNEY — Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia will lead a trial to enhance the tracking of aircraft over remote oceans, allowing planes to be more easily found should they vanish like Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, Australia’s transport minister said Sunday. The announcement comes one week ahead of the anniversary of the disappearance of Flight 370, which vanished last year on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board. No trace of the plane has been found.

The Head of the Bangli Urban Planning Agency, Ida Ayu Gede Yudi Sutha, recently said that her party was still shortage of sanitation workers. It made her party dither. As the existing data, the janitor at the Kidul Market only amounted to 21 people.

Such number was considered inadequate, so that they could not clean up the market immediately. Moreover, the market lay in two lo-

cations, namely at the Loka Sarana Terminal as a temporary market and the Kidul Market, the newly occupied by traders. “We still lack of janitors,” she said.

Furthermore, Yudi Sutha said that in the Adipura competition, sanitation of the market got the highest attention. On that account, her party should work extra hard. “In the preparation of the Adipura competition, the market gets the

highest rating. Thus, we are trying to work maximally,” she affirmed.

To overcome the shortcoming, Yudi Sutha claimed to have coor-dinated with the Bangli Industry and Trade Agency. In the meantime, she also added that the Industry and Trade Agency had agreed to participate in handling the market sanitation. “The Industry and Trade Agency has stated its readiness to help,” she added. SINGARAJA - Buleleng County desiring to operate the weighbridge on the Singaraja-Amlapura road section, precisely at Bungkulan village, Sawan subdistrict, seems difficult to be fulfilled. It happens because the Bali Transportation, Informatics and Communications Agency has a trouble in operating the weighbridge because it has not been equipped with load indicator.

The Head of Buleleng Trans-portation Agency, Gede Gunawan, revealed it. He said the county government was actually very much expecting the weighbridge could be used again. It was meant to prevent road damage due to violation against the allowed load capacity. Moreover, the current traffic of freight vehicles passing through Buleleng tended to be more crowded. Every day the freight vehicles dominated by truck transporting building materi-als reached 300 units. “We ask the weighbridge can be functioned again because it is needed so that their load can be monitored and it means to prevent damages to roads in the area,” he said.

According to him, after the Transportation Agency formally proposed it, the Bali Transportation Agency could not yet fulfill the re-quest. Based on verbal explanation received, the weighbridge could not be operated in the near future because provincial government had no supporting equipment to operate the weighbridge. One of them was the load indicator that so far could not be installed on the weighbridge at Bungkulan. For this condition,

the Bali Transportation, Informat-ics and Communications Agency stated that it was still seeking a way by submitting a proposal for help to the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta. With this fact, the control effort against the load capacity of vehicles passing through Buleleng could not be realized in the near future.

“The existing building has not been equipped with an indicator of vehicle load. Bali government is seeking to propose it to central government, so that we are forced to wait for it,” he said.

Meanwhile, based on field ob-servation, the area of weighbridge at Bungkulan village looked to be abandoned. Most of the buildings virtually indicated if there was no maintenance effort carried out for the building. Even, the area was overgrown by weeds and shrubs. As a result, the buildings looked dirty. Walls of the building looked ragged where its wall paint turned obsolete. Right in front of the building was posted a board sign reading “This land and building are owned by Bali Transportation, Informatics and Communications Agency.”

As the weighbridge was slip-shod, the building then started to be taken advantage to display bade tower (used in Hindu cremation ceremony—Ed). In addition, there were also residents who used the building for car park. Reportedly, residents took advantage of the building because the government deliberately did not use the facility. (kmb38)

DENPASAR - In 2015, Presi-dent Jokowi targeted to rehabilitate 100,000 drug addicts. Meanwhile, Bali acquired the allocation for 2,083 people. Currently Bali has rehabilitated dozens of people. “We will rehabilitate as many as possible,” said the Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Bali Chapter, I Gusti Ketut Budiartha.

From the results of research con-ducted by the BNN, in Bali there were approximately 50,000 users, but their existence was hidden. Meanwhile, to be able to achieve the rehabilitation target, his party had prepared an outreach and as-sistance program so that drug users would be willing to be rehabilitated in the BNN Bali and could immedi-

ately recover. Moreover, the budget for the rehabilitation was borne by the government. The rehabilitation process would be carried out either in Bangli Mental Hospital or foun-dations. “Even, military education institution will also be used for the rehabilitation,” he added.

The Prevention Division Head of the BNN Bali, Ketut Adi Lisdiani, added that to reach drug-free Indo-nesia 2015 was done by pressing the prevalence of drug abuse so that it would not reach 2.8 per-cent. Currently the prevalence of users in Bali reached 1.8 percent. “Hopefully, the prevalence in Bali will not increase to 2.8 percent,” he said, while adding that most addicts were ecstasy and crystal meth users. Bangli confused to clean up rubbish

BANGLI - Ahead of the Adipura (town sanitation) Competition, Bangli County still has a number of sanitation problems. One of them is the matter of local traditional market. Every day, the piling up rubbish is visible to create slump impression. Janitors are distraught as be-ing unable to do much to deal with the piles of rubbish at the market quickly due to insufficient personnel.

BUSINESS

While GM will still sell cars like the Cruze sedan in parts of Southeast Asia, an emerging markets battleground for global

automakers, it is shifting focus to push the ‘American heritage’ of its SUVs and pickups such as the Trailblazer and Colorado.

The restructuring - under Ex-ecutive Vice President Stefan Jacoby, who oversees markets beyond the Americas, Europe

and China - marks a retrenchment in Asia by the U.S. automaker. While business grows in China, the world’s biggest autos market, GM has struggled in other parts of its international operations unit, which doesn’t include China.

The Detroit-based automaker has signalled overall restructur-ing charges of about $700 million this year, and said last month it expected an improved con-solidated operating performance from Jacoby’s International Op-erations unit.

GM’s Thai plant in Rayong, an industrial city southeast of Bangkok, will be scaled down from current annual capacity of 180,000 vehicles. The com-pany did not elaborate, but said it would initiate a “voluntary separation program” for staff. In total, GM employs around 3,200 people in Thailand.

In Indonesia, GM said on Thursday it would cease pro-duction of the Chevrolet Spin by end-June and shutter a fac-tory at Bekasi, just outside Ja-karta, which employs around 500 people.

After eight decades in In-donesia, GM’s market share is below one percent, according to LMC Automotive. It sold fewer than 11,000 vehicles there last year, while Toyota Motor and its Daihatsu affiliate shifted more than 578,000 vehicles. Toyota and other Japanese makers to-gether control more than 90 per-cent of the Indonesian market.

Jacoby acknowledged GM got it wrong in going head-to-head with the Japanese in a market he dubs their “backyard”. The Spin, a strategic, small “people mover” van that has done well in Brazil, was too costly to make to be prof-itable in Indonesia as most of the

parts had to be imported.“We could not ramp up Spin

production to boost the volume as we had expected ... although the product was really good,” Jacoby told Reuters. “The logistics chain of the Spin was too complex; we had low volume so we could not localize the car accordingly, and from the cost point of view we were just not competitive.”

In Thailand, GM sold close to 26,000 vehicles last year, giving it 3 percent market share, accord-ing to LMC Automotive, which puts the combined market share of major Japanese rivals at more than 60 percent. GM said it will phase out sales of the Spin and the Sonic in Thailand by June.

While GM is broadly repo-sitioning the Chevrolet brand in parts of Southeast Asia, it is driving into Indonesia with its Chinese partners, including SAIC Motor Corp. They plan to set up a manufacturing facility near Jakarta for their no-frills Wuling brand, but aren’t interested in taking over GM’s Bekasi plant, a person close to the joint ven-ture said.

The overhaul in Indonesia and Thailand follows GM’s 2013 retreat from car production in Australia, and industry analysts now expect GM to restructure its manufacturing operations in South Korea, a big production hub for the U.S. firm.

Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Matthew Stover said South Korea has shifted from a developing-market cost structure over the last decade to being almost as expensive for car pro-duction as Japan.

“I don’t think what’s hap-pening in Korea is even close to (being) done. It’s the biggest problem,” Stover said. (rtr)

The Exhibition was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. I Ketut Sudikerta, Vice-Governor of Bali along with H.E. Mr. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India to Indonesia & Timor-Leste at a brief solemn ceremony held at ARMA Museum on 27 February 2015.

The Exhibition is composed of the three-dimensional images & replicas of the master pieces of Indian art, artifacts and important archaeological sites as well as photographs showing some of the sites of Buddhist pilgrimages in India. The artistic arrangement of the Exhibition was complimented with audio chanting of verses from original Pali Tripitaka. Bhikkus from the Vihara Buddha Sakya-muni chanted holy mantras before commencing the ceremony.

Other eminent dignitaries pres-ent during the opening ceremony included the Regent of Gian-yar Regency, Anak Agung Gde Bharata; Director-General for Buddhist Community Guidance at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, Dasikin; Tjokorda Gde Putra Sukawati of Puri Agung Ubud, Putu Dewa Beratha, Head of Provincial Department of Cul-ture of Province of Bali, famous photographer Rio Helmy, besides several other senior officials of the Bali Provincial Administration and Gianyar regional administration, the members of the consular corps, representatives of museums and galleries, art & cultural person-alities, media, and members of the Indian community in Bali.

The Exhibition illustrates the life, teachings, important events and the sublime wanderings of the Buddha, which he undertook for 45 years, after getting enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at Bodhgaya. The Exhibition also provides in-formation about ‘Dhamma Yatra’ (Buddhist Pilgrimage) by depict-ing the master pieces on Indian art and artifacts discovered from the numerous archaeological sites in India.

The idea of pilgrimage came from the Shakyamuni Buddha himself. Before he attained Ma-

haparinirvana, the Buddha advised pious disciples to visit four places that would inspire them in Dharma activities, after he was gone. They are Lumbini, where he was born; Bodhgaya, where he attained Su-preme Enlightenment; Deer Park in Sarnath, where he preached the First Sermon; and Kusinara, where he attained Mahaparinirvana. The pious disciple should visit these places and look upon them with feelings of reverence, reflecting on the particular event of the Buddha’s life connected with each place. Since the Mahaparinirvana of the Buddha, these four shrines of Buddhism have become the focal

points for disciples to rally around and seek inspiration. During the time of King Ashoka, four more places, namely: Savatthi (modern Sravasti), Sankasia, Rajagaha (modern Rajgir) and Vaishali, that were closely associated with the Buddha and scenes of his miracles, were added to the pilgrimage itinerary. Together they make the Attha-mahathanani (Eight Great Places of pilgrimage).

Cordial relations between the ancient Pala rulers of India and the Shalendra Kings of Indonesia, which flourished between 7th to 13th centuries, have been high-lighted in the panels from the an-

cient Nalanda University, world’s first university. The Nalanda Cop-per Plate discovered in Nalanda Mahavihara ruins at Nalanda by Shri Hirananda Shastri at Monas-tery Site 1 in 1916 is considered as one of the most important source on early-Indonesian history of the bilateral relations enjoyed by the kings of the Pala and Shailendra dynasties, and of Balaputradeva’s devotion towards Buddhism.

Inaugurating the Exhibition, the Hon’ble Vice Governor of Bali, I Ketut Sudikerta, highly appreci-ated the Sahabat India initiative and the efforts to support bilat-eral tourism exchanges. He stated that sister city relations will be developed with India shortly and hopefully there will be direct flight between India and Indonesia to fa-cilitate enhanced people-to-people connectivity.

Ambassador Gurjit Singh em-phasized that Buddha brought a special message of peace to the world. He highlighted that this Exhibition shows the close link-ages that the Pala dynasty rulers had with Sriwijaya dynasty in Indonesia. Davapala from Pala dynasty donated five villages for building of Buddhist viharas for visiting monks, disciples and stu-dents from Indonesia. The effort through Sahabat India Festival is to deepen our strong cultural relations with Indonesia. Ambas-sador Singh thanked Agung Rai of ARMA Museum for supporting the Festival of India at his Museum. He also thanked Agung Rai for his dedication and passion in nurturing the Balinese art & culture.

The Exhibition would is open to public and would run for next two weeks till 10 March 2015. (r)

GIANYAR - Agung Rai, Found-er of ARMA Museum stated that the mutual relations of Hinduism and Buddhism can be seen everywhere in Bali. He stated that creative activity of the Balinese is main attraction of tourism in Bali. He hoped that Buddha’s life, depicted in the Exhibition will inspire every

visitor. He highly appreciated the Sahabat India – Festival of India and hoped that this celebration all over Indonesia would foster the spirit of brotherhood.

The Exhibition has been concep-tualized, prepared and mounted by the Nava Nalanda Mahavihara. Its Director, Dr. R. Panth elaborated

on the purpose and the artwork as well as panels of the Exhibition. He hoped to present similar Exhibitions highlighting India-Indonesia link-ages in other cities also to create more interaction and understanding among people to appreciate strong historical relations and values of two countries.

The Director General of Bud-dhist Community Guidance in the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia appreciated the initia-tive of the Government of India to bring the Exhibition to Indonesia. He emphasized that Dhamma Yatra to four important places connected with Buddha’s life brings greater

happiness and prosperity and en-lightenment for devout Buddhist disciples to learn how to love with pure hearts, how to be sincere and above all to have proper and correct understanding of life. Buddha’s teachings emphasize how to do good deeds in life and be useful for fellow human beings. (r)

WASHINGTON - Billionaire investor Warren Buffett hinted Saturday he had found a successor to replace him as he reflected on 50 years in charge of his Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate in an an-nual letter to shareholders.

The 84-year-old investment guru, ranked by Forbes as the world’s third richest man with a fortune estimated

at $72.3 billion, said his replacement as CEO would be “relatively young” and recruited from within.

“Our directors believe that our future CEOs should come from internal candidates whom the Berkshire board has grown to know well,” Buffett remarked.

“Our directors also believe that an incoming CEO should be rela-

tively young, so that he or she can have a long run in the job.

“Both the board and I believe we now have the right person to succeed me as CEO –- a successor ready to assume the job the day after I die or step down.

“In certain important respects, this person will do a better job than I am doing.”

The identity of Buffett’s likely successor has been a guessing game for years.

However the octogenarian ty-coon known as the “Oracle of Omaha” bullishly declared he has no intention of giving up the reins anytime soon.

“I truly do feel like tap dancing to work every day,” he said.

Buffett said he had proposed that his son Howard succeed him as a non-executive chairman in order to guard against a botched appointment.

“My only reason for this wish is to make change easier if the wrong CEO should ever be employed and there occurs a need for the Chair-man to move forcefully,” he wrote. (afp)

Candace Sutton, a reporter for the Daily Mail, was taken in for questioning by immigration officials on Wednesday as she interviewed a relative of one of the Australian convicts in the coastal town of Cilacap.

The town is close to a prison island where the traffickers Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan are to be put to death by firing squad, in a ruling that has drawn fierce protest from Canberra.

“We have deported last night the journalist back to Australia with Qantas,” immigration official Yan Wely Wiguna told AFP.

The immigration department said earlier that Sutton “failed to show a journalist visa” and had violated immigration laws by working on a tour-ist visa that she bought on arrival in Indonesia.

The Australians are among a group of for-eigners, which also includes a Frenchman and a Brazilian, who Indonesia has said will be executed soon.

No date has been set for the executions.Canberra has made repeated pleas for their

citizens to be spared but Jakarta has insisted it will push ahead with the executions.

The looming executions have drawn global media attention, and hordes of journalists have descended on Cilacap. (afp)

JAKARTA - Indonesia has re-trieved the final major part of the fuselage of an AirAsia jet that crashed into the Java Sea in Decem-ber, killing all 162 people on board, officials said Saturday.

The mangled wreckage, the largest part of the plane retrieved, was pulled from the sea Friday and loaded onto a ship, national search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo told AFP.

“We have retrieved on Friday the last and large part of the AirAsia fuselage with a wing still intact,”

Soelistyo told AFP.No bodies were found during the

course of the operation.Soelistyo said in a press confer-

ence Saturday that authorities will decide on a final date for the salvage operation after a meeting with the victims’ families scheduled for next week.

Some 103 bodies have been re-covered since the plane went down in stormy weather while flying from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore, search and rescue coor-dinator S.B. Supriyadi said. (afp)

JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo has said his country’s stance is “clear” on the pending executions of two Australian drug smugglers, despite the suggestion by Australia’s prime minister that he is “carefully considering” his position.

The executions by firing squad of Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan, the Australian ringleaders of the so-called “Bali Nine” drug smuggling gang, are believed to be imminent.

Their appeals for presiden-tial clemency, typically the final chance of avoiding death, were recently rejected by Widodo, and a court this week dismissed a bid

to challenge that decision. The looming sentences have

dramatically heightened tensions between Australia and Indonesia, fraying ties that were only just re-covering from a spying row.

Australia has been working to persuade Indonesia to allow the men to live, and Prime Minister Tony Ab-bott on Thursday offered a glimmer of hope after a phone conversation with Widodo, who he said was “care-fully considering his position”.

However Widodo shot that sug-gestion down in an exclusive inter-view with local media on Friday.

“Our stance is clear. Our laws cannot be interfered,” Widodo was

quoted as saying by Kontan news website.

The country’s Attorney-General Muhammad Prasetyo earlier said preparations for the executions of 10 drugs convicts which include the two Australians were “about 90 percent” complete.

The Australians are among a group of foreigners, including a Frenchman and a Brazilian, facing execution.

Brazil and France have also been ramping up pressure on Jakarta, with Paris summoning Indonesia’s envoy and the Brazilian president refusing to accept the credentials of the new Indonesian ambassador. (afp)

The unruly demonstration was the latest to target the influx of mainland shoppers to Hong Kong, where many blame their voracious buying habits for distorting the lo-cal economy.

Two activist groups and their supporters marched through the suburban district of Yuen Long, where there are dozens of pharma-cies selling baby formula to cater to mainland shoppers. Scuffles broke

out after crowds of village residents opposed to the protest taunted the demonstrators along the route.

Police used pepper spray and took several people away. Many shopkeepers rolled down their storefront shutters ahead of the protest and few mainland Chinese visitors were seen on the streets.

There have been at least two other shopping protests in Hong Kong’s suburban towns this year,

including one last month inside a shopping mall.

Cosmetics, medicine and luxury goods are also popular purchases for mainland Chinese shoppers because Hong Kong’s lack of sales tax makes them cheaper and the city has a reputation for authentic-ity. The goods are brought over the border and are often sold for a profit in what’s known as parallel trading. (ap)

LOS ANGELES — Parts of California were getting a welcome dose of rain and snow — a blessing for California and Nevada ski resorts — while late-winter weather dumped snow elsewhere in the U.S. Southwest. It began snowing in the Sierra Nevada late Friday and ski resorts reported receiving 12 to 18 inches (30 to 46 centimeters) of snow high on the mountains, said Jim Matthews, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

“We are thrilled,” Melissa Matheney, a spokeswoman for Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows ski resorts, told the San Francisco Chronicle. “We couldn’t be happier with this storm. It exceeded expectations, which is fantastic.” The Sugar Bowl ski resort reported up to 24 inches (61 centimeters) of snow by Saturday afternoon.

The storm system also brought scattered showers as it moved into central and southern California. Up to a foot (30 centimeters) of snow could fall through Monday, including in the San Bernardino and Angeles national forests. That follows a spell of dry weather that had some ski resorts talking about closing.

Meanwhile, central and northern New Mexico received a record-breaking snowfall Friday and Saturday with more expected throughout the weekend.

“Most of Albuquerque has had anywhere from 4 to 10 inches (10 to 25 centimeters) of snow. It’s really kind of crippled the city,” meteorologist Todd Shoemake said. In the Midwest, states including Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Kansas saw a mix of freezing rain and snow.

The arctic weather system had led to several record-breaking cold temperature readings in Iowa. Mason City, Iowa, hit a record low of -18 degrees F (-27.8 Celsius) Friday, shattering its 115-year-old record of -12 degrees F (-24.4 Cel-sius), the National Weather Service said. Waterloo also reached a record low of -24 degrees F (-31 Celsius) on Friday, beating a record set in 1897.

In other parts of the country, flights were canceled because of ice on the runways and snow collapsed a skating rink roof in Massachusetts. In Texas, freezing rain for the second consecutive day left highways slick with ice and forced the cancellation of nearly another 1,000 flights Saturday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport.

In Colorado, forecasters say a winter storm bearing down on central and southern parts of the state could bring up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) of snow by Monday. (ap)

MOSCOW — Thousands are expected to march through central Moscow to mourn veteran liberal politician Boris Nemtsov, whose killing has shaken Russia’s belea-guered opposition. The mourning march could serve to energize the opposition or it could prove to be a brief outpouring of emotions that

once again dissipate.Whoever was responsible for

the murder, the signal it sends to President Vladimir Putin’s foes is that if Nemtsov can be killed for his political activism then no one is safe.

Opposition activists had planned a protest rally on Sunday, which the

city demanded they hold in a subur-ban neighborhood. After Nemtsov’s death, they called instead for a demonstration to mourn him in central Moscow. The city gave its quick approval.

The mourners are to march to the bridge where Nemtsov was gunned down. (ap)

Spa is one experience that you should not miss during your stay in Bali. The spa business in

Bali emerging really fast during this ten years and become one of the sophisticated industry that can give your holiday a colorful experience.

Bali Spa with selected spa treatment, luxury rooms and friendly therapist will rejuvenate your soul and body. Bali really has become the Spa capital of Asia, if not the world!

Every spa has a small basic listing. Selected spas have a detailed list of all their differ-ent treatments, direct links to e-mail and/or web site so you can contact them, and a number of pictures.

In Bali almost every hotel, no matter how many stars it may have, has its own spa. The Spas of Bali offer many different

massages [Balinese, Indonesian, Thai, Swedish, Shiatsu from Japan and Lomi-Lomi from Hawaii], body wraps, polishes and scrubs, including the Royal Javanese Lulur and the Balinese Boreh, Chinese Reflexology and many Ayurvedic styles of treat-ment. Advanced spas offer Colon Hydrotherapy and personal treat-ments such as Vaginal Smoking.

In the Ubud area some spas offer Craniosacral Therapy and other Healing treatments.

Double rooms are often pro-vided for couples who wish to share the experience and the Four Hand Massage is very popular in Bali (two therapists, male or female, perform a full body massage in perfect synchroniza-tion).

“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m re-ally excited and. I’ve been working towards this for a long time. I’m happy at the way season has progressed,” said Safarova, who along with Bethanie Mattek-Sands had won their first grand slam doubles titles at the Australian Open last month.

Contesting their first final of the season, Safarova broke Azarenka in the very first game and asserted her su-premacy gradually. Though Azarenka broke back in the sixth game, Safarova returned the compliment again in the ninth and held her serve in the next to take the first set.

The plot was no different in the second set in which Safarova broke Azarenka twice_in the third and the

ninth games, firing seven aces in the match including three-in-a-row to seal the contest. Having lost all her six previous encounters to Azarenka, the Wimbledon semifinalist Safarova, raised her game to a new level at the Khalifa Tennis Complex in the match which lasted one hour and twenty seven minutes.

“I mean, it’s up there. Obviously semifinals at Wimbledon was a very high achievement for me as well. It’s the first premier WTA win of a tourna-ment, so I’m really excited. I think it’s like I’m playing more consistent.

“My game improved a lot through-out the last couple of years. It took me quite a few years to get to this point. I hope it’s not a finish point and I can

still improve that,” added Safarova, who will move four places up to 11 when the latest WTA rankings are released on Monday.

For Azarenka, who was playing her first final since the 2014 Brisbane, where she lost to Serena Williams, it was more heartbreak, in a match in which she committed 21 unforced errors.

“There’s a been lot of progress this week, a lot of good things hap-pened, a lot of great matches. I was looking as many matches in a row to try to get used to that. And I had a lot of great things actually this week that I can take and still keep work-ing. I’m still really motivated,” said Azarenka. (ap)

MIaMI — Paul Millsap scored 22 points, Dennis Schroder added 16 points and 10 assists and the in-tentionally depleted Atlanta Hawks still had enough to beat the Miami Heat 93-91 in the NBA on Saturday night. Kent Bazemore scored 15, including a big 3-pointer with about a minute left that gave the Hawks an 89-80 lead. John Jenkins scored 12 for Atlanta, which turned 23 Miami turnovers into 31 points.

Dwyane Wade scored 22 points for Miami, which still remains in the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Con-ference race. Hassan Whiteside finished with 14 points and tied a season high with 24 rebounds for Miami, which also got 16 points from Mario Chalmers and 10 from Henry Walker. The Hawks rested four regulars — Al Horford didn’t even make the trip because his wife just had a baby, while Pero Antic, DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague were all given the night off.

“Just working our way through the season,” Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said, “and trying to keep us in a good place health-wise.” By halftime, the Hawks led 43-33, the Heat having more turnovers (14) than baskets (12). Atlanta then came out and scored the first eight of the third quarter, stretching the lead to 18 and looking completely poised for a runaway.

But Miami went on a 29-14 spurt over the next 11 minutes, getting within 65-62 when Goran Dragic made a pair of free throws with 9:58 left to keep it tight. Tim Hardaway

Jr. scored 22 points, Langston Gal-loway made a clinching 3-pointer and the New York Knicks ended a sad day for the franchise with a 103-98 victory over Toronto, the Raptors’ season-high fifth straight loss.

After beginning the night with a moment of silence for former Knicks forward Anthony Mason, who died Saturday at 48, the team finished it by celebrating its second straight victory. Former Raptors center Andrea Bargnani scored 19 points and newcomer Alexei Shved had 15 for the Knicks.

Lou Williams scored 22 points for the Raptors, who fell into a tie with Chicago for second place in the Eastern Conference and are just a half-game ahead of Cleveland for fourth. Marc Gasol had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and Mike Conley hit a big 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to lift the Memphis Grizzlies to a much-needed 101-97 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Gasol scored nine straight points in the final 4 minutes, and Conley’s 3 from the wing broke a 95-all tie. Conley finished with 17 points and hit two free throws with 11 seconds left for Memphis.

Andrew Wiggins scored 25 points and Ricky Rubio had 13 points, 10 assists and seven re-bounds for the Wolves. But Kevin Garnett was ejected early in the third quarter of his second game back in a Wolves uniform af]ter picking up his second technical foul. (ap)

Rooney scored from a penalty in the 66th minute after Radamel Falcao was fouled by John O’Shea. East sent off Wes Brown, instead of O’Shea, leaving the visitors to struggle on with 10 men. Ironically, both de-fenders are former United players. O’Shea, who clearly pulled Falcao back as he was about to shoot, pleaded with East to send him off instead.

East explained, in a statement issued by the referees’ body, that he believed he saw both players make contact with Falcao, but added that none of the officials at the match offered any guidance. Rooney scored his second six minutes from time to ensure victory, and lift United back to third in the standings behind leader Chelsea and second-place Manchester City, both of whom did not play.

Chelsea meets Tottenham Hotspur in the English League Cup final on Sunday, when City visits Liverpool, and Arsenal hosts Everton in league play. Southampton, the only other top team in action, was beaten 1-0 by improving West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham’s fading bid for a place in Eu-rope was hit in the day’s early fixture when it lost 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace, while

Swansea won 1-0 at Burnley, Newcastle beat struggling Aston Villa, under the new man-agement of Tim Sherwood, 1-0, and Stoke overcame Hull also by one goal.

In all, four of the six fixtures produced just a single goal and, for the second con-secutive week, a key refereeing decision became the chief talking point.

East spoke to his assistants at Old Traf-ford before he confirmed his decision to send off Brown. The fourth official at the game was Martin Atkinson, who was the referee in charge when Chelsea drew 1-1 with Burnley a week earlier, an encounter that was engulfed in controversy about his decision-making with Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho citing four questionable incidents. Two hours after the match, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited issued a statement which explained East’s actions.

“From his position Roger East ... believed he saw contact from John O’Shea and Wes Brown on Radamel Falcao,” the statement said. “As he thought Brown made a foul on Falcao, while he was in the act of shooting, he dismissed Brown. After the incident, the match referee consulted with his team of officials, but none were better placed to

offer guidance.”Sunderland manager Gus Poyet said:

“It was difficult to see what happened - we’re trying to get a video. It’s between two players. We have to analyze it. It didn’t look an easy decision to make. The referee said Wes Brown was the one who fouled Falcao first. ... That’s what he told the players.”

U n i t e d m a n a g e r L o u i s Van Gaal said he was h a p p y with his team’s r e - sponse in the s e c - ond half after a d u l l opening period: “ T h e first half could be better, but the second half we con- trolled the match. I’m very pleased.

“The players protested because they felt the wrong player was sent off. That’s a mistake. You make mistakes as well, and so do I. It can hap-pen.” (ap)

VERONA, Italy — AC Milan was held to a goalless draw at rele-gation-threatened Chievo Verona in Serie A on Saturday as it once again failed to win consecutive matches. Filippo Inzaghi’s team doesn’t have two successive victories since Octo-ber, and remained ninth ahead of the rest of the weekend fixtures.

Chievo earned a valuable point in its battle to survive the drop, and moved provisionally five points clear of the bottom three. The best chance of the match fell to Milan’s Keisuke Honda, who hit the cross-bar at the start of the second half. Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez, who returned from suspension, was also forced into two good saves as Chievo looked for its first win against the Rossoneri since 2005.

The match started 15 minutes late in a show of solidarity to crisis-hit Parma. The Italian Players Associa-tion announced on Thursday that all Serie A squads will go on the field 15 minutes late this weekend.

Milan’s injury problems in de-fense worsened this week after Adil Rami was diagnosed with a right calf problem, joining the likes of Cristian Zapata, Ignazio Abate, Mat-tia De Sciglio, Pablo Armero and Cristian Zaccardo on the Rossoneri’s unavailable list. However, Philippe Mexes returned from his four-match ban for grabbing Lazio captain Ste-fano Mauri by the neck.

The first half was a turgid affair, with the best chance falling to Sergio Pellissier, who skipped past Salva-tore Bocchetti and forced Lopez to

rush out and parry at his feet. The ball then ricocheted off Luca An-tonelli, who recovered to clear off the line. Honda replaced Riccardo Montolivo at halftime and almost immediately broke the deadlock but his fierce effort crashed off the crossbar.

The match briefly threatened to spark into life as Lopez made a fin-gertip save to deny Ezequiel Sche-lotto, then a crucial Federico Mat-tiello intervention — in his first Serie A start — prevented Giampaolo Pazzini from tapping in following a Jeremy Menez counterattack.

Shortly afterwards, former Milan forward Alberto Paloschi almost scored against his old club moments after coming off the bench but Lopez pushed his effort over the bar. (ap)

BARCELONA, Spain — Bar-celona’s 3-1 win at Granada from goals by Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi was overshadowed by little-known Alberto Bueno netting four goals in 16 minutes in Rayo Valle-cano’s victory on Saturday. Bueno struck four times from the 23rd to the 38th minutes to lead Rayo’s stunning 4-2 comeback win over Levante and send its fans at Vallecas Stadium into raptures in a remark-able first half.

Suarez scored his third goal of the week before setting up Messi as Barcelona kept the pressure on Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish league standings. Suarez, who scored twice in a 2-1 victory at Manchester City on Tuesday, arguably had his best game since joining Barcelona.

He played a part in Barcelona’s first goal when Ivan Rakitic finished off his rebound in the 25th. He then worked a one-two combination with Rakitic to double the lead in the 48th. Five minutes later, Granada’s Fran Rico converted a penalty, but Rakitic played Suarez through for him to generously pass to Messi in the 70th.

Suarez’s goal was his 10th in 24 appearances, after he started the season late while completing a four-month ban for biting an Italy defender at the World Cup.

“He has been playing at a very high level,” Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said of Suarez. “Now, with the goals he is scoring, his hard work is being more widely recognized, but for us he has been doing a very special and interesting job.” Messi, who could have had another couple of goals if not for Oier Olazabal’s goalkeeping, took his league tally to 27 on the season. Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo leads

the competition with 29.Barcelona pulled to within one

point of Madrid before the pac-esetter hosts Villarreal on Sunday. Bueno, a Madrid youth product who played for Derby County in Eng-land’s second tier in 2010, started his performance by canceling out Victor Casadesus’ opener with a header.

The attacking midfielder then put in a poor clearance by goalkeeper Diego Marino with his right foot, before slotting in a third goal with his left, and polishing off his own initial shot again with his right boot. Kalu Uche scored late for Levante. No Rayo player had ever scored four goals in one game. In 1995, Deportivo La Coruna’s Bebeto scored five goals in a 5-0 thrashing of Almeria, the last four coming in a seven-minute span.

“It felt like every ball I touched was going in,” Bueno said. Bar-celona will face Bueno’s Rayo in the next round, and will do so without Neymar after he picked up a fifth yellow card. But first, Barce-lona visits Villarreal on Wednesday looking to book its place in the final of the Copa del Rey, holding a 3-1 advantage heading into the second leg of their semifinal.

Granada, which was left in second-to-last place just ahead of Levante in the relegation zone, held its own in the first half at Los Carmenes Stadium.

Barcelona, however, got a key save from Claudio Bravo to stave Javi Marquez’s goal-bound strike shortly before halftime, and Rakitic and Suarez provided enough fire-power to secure the three points. Messi and Neymar were held in check by Granada’s defense until late, leaving Suarez to lead the at-tack. (ap)

FRANKFURT, Germany — Bo-russia Dortmund beat Schalke 3-0 in the Ruhr Derby on Saturday for its fourth consecutive Bundesliga victory. After missing half a dozen chances in the first half, Dortmund’s attack came alive late, with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marco Reus in the last 12 minutes of the biggest derby in German football.

The home victory continued Dort-mund’s climb from the bottom of the table, and Jurgen Klopp’s team is now six points away from danger. “It was a perfect afternoon,” Klopp said. “We played a great game from the first to the last minute. We have to continue this way.”

Elsewhere, bottom-place Stuttgart

earned a 1-1 draw in Hannover, with both teams finishing the match with 10 men; Hoffenheim beat Mainz 2-0; Hertha Berlin edged Augsburg 1-0; Bayer Leverkusen defeated Freiburg 1-0; and Alexandar Meier scored both goals for Eintracht Frankfurt to edge 10-man Hamburger SV 2-1. Runaway leader Bayern Munich beat Cologne 4-1 on Friday.

Dortmund dominated the derby but Schalke stayed in the match thanks to the inefficiency of Dort-mund strikers and some good saves by 19-year-old Timon Wellenreuther, normally third-choice goalkeeper but playing because of injuries to the other two.

Not until the 78th did the first goal come, Aubameyang scoring a

deflected shot by Mkhitaryan, who doubled the lead one minute later as Schalke’s defense collapsed. After the first goal, Aubameyang and Reus went through their routine celebration while wearing Batman and Robin masks.

In the 86th, Wellenreuther showed his inexperience when he allowed Reus to rob him of the ball and score. “There is no better feeling,” Reus said after his team’s first home win over Schalke since 2011. “It’s the biggest game of the season for us.”

Schalke coach Roberto di Matteo said he wanted to apologize to the fans after his team’s third straight match without a win. “It was a difficult day for us. We have to think about how we want to proceed.” (ap)

PARIS — Lyon coach Hubert Fournier acknowledged their French title hope took a big hit in a 2-1 loss to Lille on Saturday that opened the door for defending champion Paris Saint-Germain to move to the top. Leader Lyon made the perfect start thanks to a third-minute goal through midfielder Corentin Tolisso. Alexandre Lacazette, the league’s 21-goal top-scorer, went close with a free kick as Lyon dominated.

But Lille, which has struggled to score, hit back in the second half through midfielders Idrissa Gueye and Rony Lopes, who is on loan from Manchester City, to hand Lyon

its first defeat in 12 league games.“Our lethargy in the second half

was the main reason for this defeat. It’s a big blow,” Fournier said. “We were up against it from the first min-ute of the second half. We conceded two goals in four minutes and that killed us. Our good run has come to an end but I hope we’re able to go on another one.”

PSG was two points behind and can take first place if it wins at Mo-naco on Sunday. Marseille, which threw away a 2-0 lead in a 3-2 home loss to Caen on Friday, was two points behind PSG.

Elsewhere, Saint-Etienne’s mis-

erable year continued as it was held to 1-1 at relegation-threatened Toulouse, while Bordeaux’s home match against Reims also ended 1-1. Rennes recorded its first league victory since December by win-ning 1-0 at second-to-last Lens, bottom club Metz lost 2-1 at home to Evian, and Lorient beat in-form Bastia 2-0.

Although Lyon has only the league to focus on because it is eliminated from all cup competi-tions, its title credentials are likely to be severely tested in the next two weeks with away trips to Montpel-lier and Marseille. Tolisso profited

from slack marking to run onto Nabil Fekir’s corner and fire past goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

After going close with a free kick, Lacazette had another effort blocked toward the end of the first half. Lille equalized in the second half when Gueye swapped passes with Lopes and side-footed the ball comfortably past goalkeeper Anthony Lopes. Four minutes later, Rony Lopes collected the ball some 35 meters out on the right, cut inside, held off Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons, and curled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

A last gasp-goal extended Saint-Etienne’s winless streak to seven league matches, although it moved provisionally level on points with fourth-place Monaco. Max Gradel drove a powerful penalty under the bar on the stroke of halftime after Romain Hamouma was fouled by Uros Spajic.

It appeared as if Saint-Etienne was on course for only its second Ligue 1 win of 2015, but Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro netted a su-perb equalizer two minutes from time. Toulouse was left level on points with Evian, two points from safety. (ap)

Referee red card overshadows Rooney goals in EPL

LONDON — Manchester United rode its luck as Wayne Rooney scored twice in a 2-0 win against struggling 10-man Sunderland, but his success was overshadowed by another refereeing controversy in the English Premier League on Saturday. One week on from the fury at Chelsea’s home clash with Burnley, referee Roger East was at the center of an alleged case of mistaken identity at Old Trafford.

(ap)

(ap)

But the country received just 288,000 visitors from China last year, according to tourist board

Turespana.By comparison the United

(afp)

(kmb36)

A Kuta community leader, IGN Sudiarsa, revealed that based on his observation, Kuta tourism was still in normal condition. Foreign tourist visits were also relatively similar to the same period last year. “It remains mediocre. Indeed, as in previous years from February to March is the period of low season,” said the chief of Legian customary village.

Kuta community, added Sudi-arsa, greatly regretted the threat of the Australian government. Such attitude was judged excessive especially considering the death penalty for the two Australian citi-zens had been in accordance with the applicable laws in Indonesia. However, Sudiarsa was confident

that Australian citizens would be mature enough to address the issues because it originated from the cases of drug-related crimes.

His party also hoped the threat of the Australian government would not affect the number of Australian tourists visiting Bali. Moreover, all this time many Australian tourists had considered Bali, especially Kuta, as their second home.

UnworriedMeanwhile, not long ago Min-

ister of Tourism, Arief Yahya, responded to the threats posted by Australian government to boycott travelers to Indonesia. “Tourism has the base of people to people, not government to government. So, it is

expected when parents fight, chil-dren are still playing together, such a thing is also expected to happen in this case,” said Arief.

Arief expected the people to people relationships including the socio-cultural relations between the people of Indonesia and Australia could still be well maintained. So far, his party monitored there was no significant effect related to the threats announced by the Australian government.

Nevertheless, Arief expressed to carefully comment for fear of worsening the situation. “Neces-sarily, we should not say that we do not worry because they will be likely to prove, but in practice our children will play happily. It can be

seen from the figure despite their parents are cranky. It does not have an impact,” he said.

On that account, Arief said that he would not correct the target for foreign tourist arrival from Aus-tralia or remained on the figure of 1.2 million foreign tourists until the end of this year. “There will be no correction of targets because statistically it does not go down. It has no impact but this does not nec-essarily mean that we challenge,” he explained.

Earlier, Vice President Jusuf Kalla expected the tourism-related industries to improve performance considering the development of tourism in Indonesia still lost out compared to our neighboring countries, while Indonesia had everything such as the beauty of nature, unique culture and history. “Indonesia is more complete. What is lacking so that this great country

is visited by less tourists?” asked Kalla.

Kalla underlined about the things that hindered the entry of foreign tourists. According to him, the administrative problems should be improved such as by multiplying visa on arrival and free visa, im-proving immigration services, mak-ing attractive provision, doing good promotion as well as reducing cost. “Tourism is not only advertising but also good news. Bali has complete potential such as sea, mountain, infrastructure and hospitality,” he said. (kmb25/010)

(ap)
