MAY 2017 THANK YOU TO OUR FUNDRAISERS AND DONATERS Huge thanks this month for donations from The Grimmit Trust, Carol Stephen, JTH Trust, Bank of Scotland Foundation, Houseproud of Morningside, Johnston Smillie, Four Seasons Healthcare and Ellen Verth. We were delighted to welcome to Headway House, Angie, Nicola and Ross from Johnston Smillie who have supported Edinburgh Headway Group for the last 2 years as their chosen Charity of the Year. All the staff at Johnston Smillie have taken part in all sorts of fundraising activities – running, baking, wine and cheese night, ceilidh night, quiz night to name a few – and as a result of their fantastic endeavours, they have raised over £5000! A massive ‘Thank you’ to all the staff at Johnston Smillie; we are very grateful for all your support and efforts on our behalf. Angie, Ross, and Nicola present the cheque to Michelle and day service users and staff below.

Thank you to everyone who chooses to fundraise and donate to Edinburgh Headway Group.

Your support is invaluable to us and the services we provide.

Member in the Spotlight Jimmy is one of our most recent members at Edinburgh Headway Group and he is settling in really well. Jimmy hasn’t been to anywhere like Headway before and has overcome his initial nerves admirably. He always makes the most of his time here and loves chatting with other members and volunteers and trying out lots of new things. Jimmy comes along on a Tuesday and brings his energy and enthusiasm to the Zumba session before relaxing into the therapeutic art group. Jimmy then takes an active part in our very popular creative writing group and he has been the author of some really brilliant poems which often follow the theme of his passion, Hearts football team! His latest poem is featured at the end of this issue. Jimmy also works hard in the gym and then takes time to gently recover with some reflexology. Overall he is making big steps towards his goals and outcomes. Well done Jimmy, keep up the good work!

VOLUNTEER NEWS During this year’s Action for Brain Injury week (8th – 11th May), we are lucky enough to have 2 of our very talented volunteers who will be taking to the ‘floor’ to perform for us. Lorna is one of our Monday volunteers and she is part of the Forth Valley Chorus, a 100 strong group of extraordinary women who love to sing barbershop music! Lorna will be performing with some of her friends from the choir in a smaller group known as ‘INCOGNITO’. We are really looking forward to their performance on 8th May. In addition, Ronnie, our music group volunteer will be rounding off the week on Thursday 11th with a performance of Buddy Holly and Elvis tunes at the ‘wrap party’!!!

A Poem - Family and Football by Jimmy and Mike

Rain depresses me But my family cheer me up Or when I go to football And the Jambos win the cup….

…When I was a steward They won the Scottish Cup We weren’t supposed to celebrate But we all went down the pub…

…My family cheer me up Even though they support Rangers Apart from Jamie - he’s a Jambo Neither team’s won in ages.
