In a small saucepan place 2 garlic cloves with 4 tablespoons of water together with of the extra virgin olive oil and boil slowly until the garlic softens. Drain the mixture, (through a small strainer) and crush the garlic with a spoon together with the salt, pepper, and oregano. You now have a garlic paste; set it aside. Wash and cut cucumbers in half then take the seeds out; grate them or chop them very small, julienne style and squeeze as much liquid out as possible this keeps the Tzatziki thick. In a large bowl, mix the yogurt, garlic paste, cucumbers, chopped herbs and the remaining 4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil with the lemon juice. Mix slowly so that the cucumbers are not crushed further. Refrigerate for about 1 hour and serve.

Ingredients:Coarse Salt & Ground Pepper1 pound Penne, cooked and drained2 pounds Ground Lamb2 Medium Onions, diced1/2 cup Red Wine1 can (6 ounces) Tomato Paste1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon6 tablespoons Hash Butter1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour, spooned and leveled3 cups Hash Milk1/8 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper (optional)1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese

Instructions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cook pasta, and drain; reserve. Meanwhile, in a large saucepan, over medium heat, cook lamb, breaking apart pieces with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink, 6 to 8 minutes. Add onions; cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a colander; drain fat, and discard. Return lamb to pan; add wine. Cook over medium heat until almost all liquid has evaporated, about 5 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, cinnamon, and 2 cups water; simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened, 15 to 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Make Parmesan Cheese Sauce while mixture is simmering: In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; whisk in flour until incorporated, about 30 seconds. In a slow steady stream, whisk in milk until there are no lumps. Cook, whisking often, until mixture is thick and bubbly and coats the back of a wooden spoon, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in cayenne, if desired, and Parmesan. Add pasta to lamb mixture; transfer to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Pour sauce over the top, smoothing with the back of a spoon until level. medible FEATURE: CRE-EDIBLES

    KYMBER WARDSTAFF EDITOR

An INCRE-DIBLE edible has come across my desk. If you are looking for a health-conscious edibles, Cre-Edibles has created delicious and healthy alternatives to the traditional baked goods, gummies, and chocolates that currently dominate the edibles market. Their product line consists of always fresh, low-dose, infused, oatmeal bars. Founder Aryn Sieber, is dedicated to offering the highest quality products with all-natural ingredients.

Aryns road to cannabis was an incredible story, laden with inspiration, illness, and frustration. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Carcinoma of the head and neck in 2014. Ultimately, Aryns cancer was attributed to working at Ground Zero, in New York, immediately following the attack on the World Trade Towers, on 9/11.

At the time, Aryn was on a business trip in New York when the tragic crashes took place. Amidst the chaos, he felt it was his duty to help in any manner he could. In an emotional recollection, Aryn explained, People needed help and I helped. It was a bad situation.

Aryn went to Ground Zero, and began assisting the Salvation Army. He volunteered for 4 days, supporting first responders, sifting through the wreckage, and setting up triage centers for the wounded.

More than ten years later, he suffered from a cough that, just never seemed to go away. He was later diagnosed with Carcinoma of the head and neck. Sieber began his cancer-fighting regimen consisting of traditional and holistic treatments including radiation, chemotherapy, Juice Plus supplements, acupuncture and medical grade cannabis edibles. Within six months of beginning this routine, he was shocked to learn he had entered complete remission, meaning there are no traces of cancer anywhere in his system.

Aryns father lost his own battle with Galloping (lung) cancer. It was on his fathers birthday, January 12th, 2015, that Cre-Edibles was born. In Aryns own words its his mission to bring the use of cannabis out into the light, to address the stigma that surrounds the conversation of cannabis use and to educate others about the use of cannabis as a medicinal option for those in need.

Cre-Edibles is dedicated to producing honest edibles. As of today, the product line consists of Toffee Raisin, Cinnamon Apple, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Golden Oatmeal Bars. They will soon launch CBD, gluten-friendly, sugar free, and vegan products. I have to admit, it is not only exciting, but also extremely refreshing to receive an edible with labeled ingredients and a small pamphlet in each package explaining pertinent information including recommended dosing with a detailed diagram. For those of us who dont like to just guess what an eighth of a cookie equates to, this is extremely progressive and exciting.

As previously mentioned, Cre-Edibles offers low-dose edibles, which is great for cancer patients who are unable to ingest copious amounts of sugar and calories. Each of their bars contain 50mg o THC each and are small in size. According to the pamphlet, a first time user is recommended to only consume an 1/8th of the bar, which equates to 6.25mg and a regular dose is only a of the bar equaling 12.5mg.

Cre-Edibles are made from Syrup OG infused coconut oil and all premium organic ingredients. They are small squares that resemble any non-infused oatmeal bar. They have a nice texture and are chewy with a bit of a crunch. I have to admit my favorite is the Toffee Raisin Bar. It is the perfect balance of cinnamon and sweetness. You can taste the flavor of the cannabis, but it does not distract from the natural flavors of the other ingredients.

The business model of Cre-Edibles is to pay it forward. Its all about the 3-Cs Cannabis, Cancer & Community, says Sieber. We plan to open a certified kitchen for ourselves and others who want to test or try to create new edibles. We welcome those who come ask us questions about cannabis. This is not a hustle, what I am trying to do is just bring the truth to light.

The founder is dedicated to this plant because he has witnessed, first-hand, the incredible benefits of it. I firmly believe it [cannabis] contributed to saving my life. He went on to tell me, Cancer was the best thing that happened to me. I dont like what its done to my body, but it has brought real meaning to my life to where I can help people.

Cre-Edibles may be among the new kids on the block (in the edibles game), but we would like to commend them on the standard they are setting in this industry. Keep an eye on these guys, their product is outstanding and the company behind the product is even more exceptional. We look forward to following your journey. KYMBER WARDSTAFF EDITOR

Happy Birthday Hemperor!Have you ever wondered how the cannabis industry got to where it is today? Who influenced this revolution? What sacrifices have been made in order to get to this point? It is a disappointing realization that this generation of cannabis enthusiasts has no idea who the founding fathers are of the industry. In fact, arguably the most influential cannabis activist has been relegated to merely a strain of marijuana. The name behind the most awarded strain ever, the Hemperor, and one of the most dedicated hemp activists ever, Jack Herer, deserves to be honored. Each person involved in this movement should not only know who he was, but honor his legacy.

Unlike many in the industry, Jack Herer did not have the stereotypical hippie background. He actually lived a fairly traditional life pre-marijuana. He was born on June 18, 1939 and grew up in Buffalo, NY. His family was a conservative Jewish family that had traditional family values. His father passed away at an early age. Shortly thereafter, he dropped out of high school and enlisted in the army. He ultimately became a translator in the Korean War.

After leaving the military, he went home and began his family in Southern California. By the mid 1960s, he had 3 sons Barry, Dan and Mark. He worked as a neon sign salesman in Southern California. Later, he had 3 more children River, Chanci and BJ. Herer was a conservative Republican and had a great distain for anti-war protestors during Vietnam. Jack was adamantly against marijuana at the time. In fact, believe it or not, he even divorced his first wife over cannabis!

It wasnt until years later did he try marijuana and instantaneously felt the draw to the plant. In the documentary, Emperor of Hemp, he explained what trying marijuana felt like for the first time, in 1969. I was feeling sensations that I didnt even know a human being could experience.

It was from that day forward Herers crusade to legalize hemp and cannabis was underway. Jack then went on to write his first book G.R.A.S.S. (Great Revolutionary American Standard System: The Official Guide for Assessing the Quality of Marijuana on the 1 to 10 Scale), a cartoon book about

marijuana. As the first book gained traction, he became an expert on the subject. He had an insatiable urge to learn and he began to

soak up any information he could about the plant. He became fascinated with the history of the plant, even moreso the importance of hemp in our history.

Many people already involved in the marijuana movement at the time, looked at Jack as a liberal loony who was straying from the bottom line keeping smokers out of jail and thought he focused too much on hemp. Eventually, he teamed up with Captain Ed Adair who quickly became his trusted confidant and right-hand man. According to Jack, he and Captain Ed had made a pact to work towards legalizing cannabis until the day they died.

In 1979, Jack and Ed created the very first hemp store. It was an outdoor booth at Venice Beach. In no time, Herer became a Venice Beach staple, telling everyone who stopped by (and even those who didnt) the miracles and many uses of the plant. He was a dynamic, magnetic, and passionate orator who was able to capture the attention of many and never traveled far without a loyal entourage.

It was 1981, when Jack came toe-to-toe with President Ronald Reagan, a notorious anti-marijuana force, at the Federal Building in Los Angeles while Herer was collecting signatures for a California initiative. At the time, Reagan had no idea what all of the Canadians were doing protesting. He did not know what a marijuana leaf looked like and mistook it as a maple leaf oh, the irony.

After 108 days of protesting, Jack and five other protestors were arrested for disobeying an outdated and vague wartime

law that stated there were to be no public gatherings on Federal property after dark. His fellow conspirators agreed to pay the $5 fine and received probation, Jack did not. He fought the charges for two years and ultimately lost; he was sentenced to two weeks at Terminal Island, a low-security Federal prison. It was there that The Emperor Wears No Clothes, was born.

In 1985, Jack published The Emperor Wears No Clothes: The Official Hemp Bible, a non-fiction book grounded in historical and scientific fact, but written in simple language. He shed light on all of the not so well-known facts about cannabis and hemp including explaining how cannabis is the most renewable resource on the planet. The book is now in its 12th Edition and has sold over 700,000 copies. A $100,000 challenge is offered to anyone who can disprove the book.

Perhaps Jacks most monumental discovery while researching the book was finding Hemp for Victory, a 14-minute documentary created by the Department of Agriculture, that explains the many uses of hemp and urges farmers to cultivate the plant. Him and his posse went to the Library of Congress in search of proving the validity of the movie. The official Library of Congress documentation was tucked away in a back room, but Jack found it.

Herer and his movement gained speed in the 90s. With the knowledge that hemp is indeed an amazing resource finally conveyed to the public the hemp industry took off, as did Jacks notoriety. Jack was featured on several High Times covers and received numerous awards.

As the millennium approached, Jack still fought the good fight. In 2004, he suffered his first heart attack and a stroke. He mostly recovered and returned to his campaign. At the 2009 Hempstalk in Portland, Oregon he suffered another heart attack and April 15, 2010, Jack Herer passed away from complications of the heart attack.

Jacks legacy has continued to thrive as he built the foundation for the marijuana industry we have today. It is important that the new generation of pioneers knows and understands his mission in order to continue it. Jacks 74th birthday was on June 18th; therefore, in honor of him and the groundwork he laid for us, Edibles Magazine has dedicated this issue to cannabis reform and hemp activism. Happy Birthday Jack!

DAN HERER: THE HEMPERORS SONCover feature:

KYMBER WARDSTAFF EDITORIn light of Jacks birthday, we wanted to celebrate his legacy by highlighting his many achievements in our industry. It truly saddens us to hear so many twenty-somethings have no idea who Jack Herer is, outside of the cannabis strain. I had the opportunity to sit down with his 2nd oldest son, Dan and was able to gain a unique insight about this iconic man.

I must admit that the very first time I met with Dan he had to correct my pronunciation of his last name whoops! Like many, I pronounced Herer as her-air, fun fact; it is actually pronounced like hair-er. Dan laughed a bit and said, think Herer like terror. I was dying to find out what Jack was like as a father. Dan explained that pre-pot, He was stern; if he asked you to do something, you just did it. It was probably due to being an Army vet ,and the mentality of do as I say, not as I do. However, after trying cannabis in 1969, my father became a noticeably different guy. At the time he was working and maintaining neon signs in Los Angeles. After discovering marijuana in his 30s, he became much more hippie-like and free thinking, explained his son. I was curious what it was like to be amidst Jacks world while growing up. He explained that hanging out with hippies, stoners, and swingers in the early 70s was interesting. He tells me with a grin, that one of his fondest childhood memories with his father was going to Studio 54 in New York when he was about fourteen Hey, it was the 70s right?

Jack needed all hands on deck after publishing his first book, G.R.A.S.S. It seemed like overnight we were not just his kids but his working staff for the 1st publication, GRASS. I remember the publication stamp was

incorrect, so we had to blackout and re-stamp each copy by hand, Dan recalls. Dan continued to work with his father throughout the 80s and 90s. He was among the many people gathering signatures, at the California Federal Building, for 108 days before Jack was arrested for breaking an outdated law. The Hemp Booth in Venice Beach was in full swing at this time. Dan helped to maintain and run the booth while his father was on the campaign road.

He shared an apartment with his father in Van Nuys. I wondered how it was to live with someone who always had a following. Ah my fathers camp My father had an extraordinary ability to meet and inspire people to dedicate themselves to the movement and in a sense, to him. To give their time freely, and in exchange he gave them love, food, shelter and in a sense, self worth, he explained.

They rented a small apartment in Venice right near where the booth was. This apartment essentially housed the booth on off days and all of the people who worked it.

In the mid 90s, Dan stepped away from the cause to pursue personal goals; Jack wasnt thrilled with that idea. The relationship was always strained, in the sense that I had my views in what I wanted to do [with my life] and he had his views on what I should be doing within the movement, he explained. Simply put, if you didnt agree with Jack, you were wrong.

Dan gave me a brief rundown of some key players he remembers:

Captain Ed Adair He was my dads right-hand man. He was devastated when his partner in the movement succumbed to cancer in 1991. Richie Marcella In the early 80s, Richie was the guy my dad could depend on for anything. Michael M. He was one of my fathers closest confidants. He was the resident artist and even painted all of the Hemp Booth signs. Eddy Lepp He was very close to my fatherin his latter years. He never left his side; he truly cared for my father. Dave Martin Owner of HempStar, a hemp product company that now sells Jacks Hemp for Victory shirt. Dave the Hemp Man A longtime friend and hemp supplier Chuck Jacobs A devoted friend. Prop 215 was actually not Jacks initiative; it was head by Dennis Peron. The wars between him and Dennis were monumental. My dad had issues with Prop 215, but eventually he came on board. He felt it didnt go far enough. If people had access to this plant medically, and could go to a doctor to be prescribed this as a medicine, he felt that a majority of the folks would stop fighting as they got what wanted safe access. It turns out he was right, because up until recently the war had ended and people had given up.

Since his fathers death, Dan has decided to come back to the movement and continue his fathers legacy his way. He has started The Jack Herer Foundation, dedicated to the re-education of this plant and its place in history as the planets number one renewable source. If you would like more information on The Jack Herer Foundation please go to: www.jackhererfoundation.org

    TOPICAL REVIEW: JAYNGRENE

    KEIR MCMICHAELSTAFF EDITOR

JaynGrene is a new topical company on the market, whose creators background includes eight years in The United States Marine Corps, with two tours in Iraq. After her time in the military, she was honorably discharged and graduated from the Art Institute of Washington D.C., focusing her studies in film. She then drove across the country from the Capital to California, by herself, in search of a way to combine her love of film with her love of cannabis. She is now involved with the Weed 4 Warrior Project, which assists veterans in obtaining medicinal cannabis to treat their PTSD and other debilitating post-war symptoms. She is also a cannabis model, has worked with StockPot, Women Grow, and directs and edits for the U.S. Weed Channel.

I chose to create this specific product line because I attended a 420 class, just to learn more about the business, and I sat next to a gentleman that had on this intoxicating cannabis topical. It was so potent, and horrible smelling that I couldnt concentrate, so I started wondering if there was a topical on the market with benefits but smelled approachable. Since Ive always valued beautiful skin, it made sense that I went this route instead of the heavily medicated balms on the market today. After doing some research, I found the best ingredient combination that helps significantly reduce, or altogether alleviate the most common skincare ailments. They not only have healing properties, but also luscious scents that rival any name brand product on the market now.

JaynGrene offers a line of Non-Gmo, Gluten Free, 100% Natural, Paraben Free, skincare products for both men & women. The line currently includes a Body Butter, Beard Oil, and Beard Balm. This product line is made from high quality ingredients and each of them have an especially pleasant aroma. Especially, the body butter - which is made from a myriad of essential oils including mango oil!

Cannabis has completely affected my life for the

better. I honestly dont think I can function as a productive member of society without it. As a sufferer of PTSD, it controls my anxiety, anger, back pain, and it helps me see life with the glass half full, instead of half empty. When things go wrong, as they will in life, its no longer a situation that will make or break me; but a learning lesson that I now value. Unfortunately, all veterans do not have access to this natural, safe alternative medicine. Because of this they succumb to their symptoms, and on average 22 service members commit suicide a day, because they think its the only way to free themselves of the thoughts or emotions that they want to forget but simply never can.

JaynGrene topicals are different from your average topical on the market today because it is primarily for major skin ailments only, so it should not be used for pain relief. Their skincare products are for men experiencing beardruff, split ends, breakage, or hair bumps underneath their beards. It also has oils full of antibacterial, antifungal, and antimicrobial properties. These oils are beneficial because they help cuts heal faster, help hair grow thicker and stronger, and they assist in cleaning up those unkempt dirty beards.

The JaynGrene Beard Balm is excellent for softening rough hair follicles, styling and taming, and increasing moisturization in any size beard. For women, they offer exotic scented body butters packed with anti-aging properties. These butters are for individuals perplexed with acne, psoriasis, rosacea, and other skin conditions. The creator personally suffers from eczema, so it was important for her to find ingredients that help combat the irritating skin problem. All of the skincare products are 100% natural, and many of the ingredients featured are organic. They contain an abundance of Vitamin E, and they help your skin feel smooth and soft especially after bath time. Just remember a little goes a long way.

When I opened the bottle of oil, the first thing I noticed was the scent. The smell of lemon grass is present but no overwhelming and; in fact, quite soothing. The dropper is a great touch. Its really nice to be able to control the amount of oil applied

without the risk of spilling oil or having oil running down the side of the bottle. After application the oil is slightly greasy(, but much less greasy than any other products Ive used. Since its all natural, I just rubbed the excess into my skin on my head and arms. I was left no worries of the oil transferring to my clothing say when my beard or hands and rightly so. I fiddle with my beard quite a bit and even though I didnt feel like the oil was getting on my fingers.

I feel like the oil softened and thickened my beard hair and even made the hair on my head feel silky. after combing my beard felt full and (as much as that pains my manhood to say) bouncy. Even with my occasional fiddling my beard kept its full shape. The hair was stronger and I experienced almost no breakage, tangling or plucking when combing my beard (which I do 2 to 4 times a day) The oil also virtually stopped phantom beard itch and along with the urge to fiddle with my beard (which causes plucking and thinning of the hair).

The oil provides the perfect amount of shine to the hair. Not so shiny that its obvious, but a subtle sheen that carries throughout the day. In fact my co worker described my beard as looking very clean and feels softer than usual that day.

Most products Ive used cause one of two issues with my skin. Either the product is so greasy that is causes my skin to break out in pimples or the product dries out my skin and hair causing flaky skin and breakage. This beard oil moisturizes my skin perfectly as well as my beard. No breakouts, no flaky skin or breakage. The oil that got onto my lips actually moisturized and I didnt experience any of the tingling or chemically taste I have with other beard products. Not surprising considering its 100% natural. I just rubbed it into my lips and let it do its thing.

I just found my new go-to product because I love this oil. I just wish it came in larger quantities, so I could use it as an all purpose body and hair product!

    DR. ALLEN MILLERSTAFF EDITOR

The human being is the most sophisticated organism on the planet. It feeds, cleans, and heals itself. It does have an expiration date however, that can be hacked or manipulated depending on the way, you as the steward of your body treats it. As I stated, the job of the body is to clean and heal the body to increase the longevity and its quality of life. Now, the body heals everything the same way, but its reaction depends on the structure or organ that becomes injured. For example, if your body is cut, it bleeds, this begins the inflammatory process initiated by this insult or injury scar tissue is summoned to the injured area, and new cells replace the damaged tissue and within about 6 weeks the injured area is returned to somewhat normal, of course depending on the extent of damage. The key is to adopt a more holistic view, rather than focusing on small bits and pieces of your anatomy. That includes taking your thoughts and emotions into account as well. The optimum aging scenario, says Andrew Weil MD, a pioneer in integrative medicine, is to remain as healthy as possible until we approach death, and then rapidly decline: Regardless, your wish to live a long healthy life. To do this, one must counteract the toxicity being

ingested, inhaled, or exposed to the body. For the last 117 years, we have been under constant assault from environmental toxins, in our food, water, air, etc. Experts are reporting that environmental toxins are now a major health threat. We are now under the greatest environmental assault in the history of humanity, as depicted in Suzanne Summers new book.

An expanding collection of research tools has enabled scientists to describe in some detail biologic processes at the micro level that are set in motion by human-environmental interactions. These processes include, for example, gene mutation, enzyme induction, oxidative stress, inflammation, changes in membrane permeability or cell-to-cell signaling properties, and hormone disruption. We have learned just how much our health or risk of disease depends on our biologic responses to what we eat, drink, and breathe; exposures to industrial and other chemicals; social circumstances; interactions with other biological organisms; and many other aspects of our environment. Despite eating organic foods, sleeping eight hours a night, and exercising, people are struggling with health issues stemming from toxic overload of these toxins. But there are many other strategies as well.

So back to our model, the body is fighting these toxins and minor injuries, 24/7 and regardless of the diligence you assign to watching the type of food and water you ingest, your stress level, your sleep, and of course your genetic background etc. you cannot fully get away from a stressor, whether its environmental, physical or physiological injury that is surrounding you. The body combats this insult from toxins, by being vigilant against these toxins by being in a constant form of chronic inflammation. So, the body is fighting disease everywhere it encounters it in the body, constantly. Chronic inflammation, which is also known as low-grade or systemic inflammation, is linked to numerous health effects and disease states. Despite the enormous interest of researchers, the details of this link remain unclear. According to Andrew Rooney, Ph.D., Deputy Director of the NTP Office of Health Assessment and Translation, because of the large number of health effects and the vast literature on the subject, researchers are challenged to develop an answerable question related to linking exposure, the resulting inflammation, and ultimately, a health effect.

Once inflammation is active, it is highly self-perpetuating. These inflammatory cytokines travel throughout the

body causing oxidating stress to the fragile machinery of the tissues and mitochondria, specifically. In one instance, in the brain, inflammation serves to shunt the use of tryptophan toward production of anxiety-provoking chemicals like quinolinate, instead of toward serotonin and melatonin; thus causing lack of sleep, decreased healing times, increasing disease. This is the vicious circle of disease, simply put, the more inflammation, the higher the stress, the higher the stress, the more inflammation escalating into a disease process i.e. Parkinsons, heart disease, pain, depression, et all.

So, to combat this vicious circle of inflammation, it is recommended that you eat organically, detox your body, drink water, eliminate processed foods, and take supplements etc. However, your still under assault from forces outside your control that are almost impossible to escape. But there is a solution, and that is to augment these Functional Medicine protocols with a natural an anti-inflammatory that grows naturally to fight this environmental onslaught as well as other toxins we ingest.

Cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, is a product of the Cannabis sativa plant and the active compounds from this plant are collectively referred to as cannabinoids. For several centuries, marijuana has been used as an alternative medicine in many cultures and, recently, its beneficial effects have been shown in: the treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy; anorexia and cachexia seen in HIV/AIDS patients; and in neuropathic pain and spasticity in multiple sclerosis. Cannabinoid pharmacology has made important advances in recent years after the discovery of the cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2).

Cannabinoid receptors and their endogenous ligands have provided an excellent platform for the investigation of the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids.

Cannabinoids are potent anti-inflammatory agents and they exert their effects through induction of apoptosis,

inhibition of cell proliferation, suppression of cytokine production and induction of T-regulatory cells (Tregs).

The combination of THC and CBDs act as

a natural anti-inflammatory, helping the body concentrate on the most important problems first. Much like Stem Cells, CBDs when introduced into the system, regardless of mode of transport, either by smoking, oil, tinctures or edible the reaction is the same, the inflammation overall subsides, then the CBDs target the most important problem first then to the second, and so on from there.

We see this in the most extreme circumstances such as tumor prevention, tumor shrinking, seizure or a myriad of other serious issues. The physical manifestations of these diseases begin as simple inflammation that has been ignored or missed for years. Advertising companies spend millions, giving us solutions to decrease our inflammation from Ionized Water, to non GMO Foods, etc. and all these are great additions to living a longer better life. However, we are missing out on the benefits of the simplest way to detox and extend our lives, and thats the use of THC based CBDs.

As you can see from the diagram above, CBDs react positively to almost every issue we encounter in health today. I personally use it, to control my arthritis inflammation and chronic pain from years of working with horses. Patients use it to control their physical pain due to injury, symptoms of allergies; skin problems, all having their beginning as overactive

inflammatory effects, we call allergies, in all their forms. I personally use this in my Life Extension, BHRT, and proper diet lifestyle.

In conclusion, I do not see the control of our environment, food, and water issues to be cleansed in our lifetime. However, what I do see and I am a large proponent for, is these CBDs will be used in your daily dietary regime to live longer, and healthier. CBD based products come in a variety of forms, flavors and types. As I stated above, its not the way we take the CBDs, its that we take the CBDs as a treatment, a preventative and an overall guard against toxicity.

Executive summary:Cannabinoids, the active components of Cannabis sativa, and endogenous cannabinoids mediate their effects through activation of specific cannabinoid receptors known as cannabinoid receptor 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2).

The cannabinoid system has been shown both in vivo and in vitro to be involved in regulating the immune system through its immunomodulatory properties.

Cannabinoids suppress inflammatory response and subsequently attenuate disease symptoms. This property of cannabinoids is mediated through multiple pathways such as induction of apoptosis in activated immune cells, suppression of cytokines and chemokines at inflammatory sites and upregulation of FoxP3+ regulatory T cells.

Cannabinoids have been tested in several experimental models of autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, colitis and hepatitis and have been shown to protect the host from the pathogenesis through induction of multiple anti-inflammatory pathways.

Cannabinoids may also be beneficial in certain types of cancers that are triggered by chronic inflammation. In such instances, cannabinoids can either directly inhibit tumor growth or suppress inflammation and tumor angiogenesis.

He was a schmuck - but I loved him, Richard Marcella says of Jack Herer.

Too often do we take for granted what we have. In our current cannabis marketplace, most of the younger generations dont know the legal history in how we got to where we are now. All we know is that we have access to medicine and recreational cannabis in some states. Here at The Edibles List, we believe it is imperative to know where you came from, and that is why this issue is dedicated to those that have laid the groundwork before we came along.

Our team was at The BIG Show Denver during 2015s World Cannabis Week when a lively and gregarious Richard Marcella, chased down a member of the Edibles Magazine Team to show us his pictures he brought with him from California. He held stacks of printed photos of him in front of the White House campaigning, photos of him with Jack Herer, and photos of Jack with his girlfriend at the time.

Jack Herer authored the premier book on cannabis, The Emperor Wears No Clothes, originally released June 1985, it has now sold nearly 1 million copies, and the documentary has done just as well. Richard Marcella was Jacks friend, confidant, and the official spokesperson of the California Hemp Initiatives.

Richard got involved in the movement to legalize cannabis in January 1980. He joined the National Organization for Reform on Marijuana Laws, and began his road to becoming an official hemp advocate. He was 35 at the time, and is now 70 years old, celebrating 35 years (and dedicating over half his life) in the cannabis movement.

Marcella worked very closely Jack Herer.

He was his PR man. The official hangout was Captain Eds head shop in Burbank. It was originally called Heads & High, and opened by Captain Ed Adair, in an effort to keep the spirit of the 60s alive. It is still there, and is the oldest head shop in America, with 48 years under its belt at the Burbank location on Van Nuys Blvd.

In addition to being the official hemp initiative spokesperson and media coordinator, Richard began a public access television show called HEMP 4 Victory, (a throwback name to the 1940s government campaign Hemp for Victory, encouraging farmers to grow hemp for rope supply during the war).

Richard was happy to show us some of the episodes that aired on PBS, as well as the impromptu interviews he landed with Willie Nelson, over 20 years ago.

In September 1981, Richard and Jack were all arrested at the Lancaster Fair for gathering signatures for the California hemp initiative for legalization. The official charge was an infraction, not even a misdemeanor, and yet their bail was higher than the prisoners being held for felonies. Jack was bailed out right away, while Richard spent 3 days in jail.

When the Sheriff was booking Marcella, Richard told them, Youre going to hear from more media than youve ever heard from before. The LA Times, KFWB, ABC,

    Channel 7

The Sheriff got angry and responded, For 20 years Ive heard that threat, and for 20 years nothing has ever happened.

Every media outlet called the Sheriff station, the Governors office, the Secretary of State called, the attorney generals office, all called, wanting to know about the arrests.

The sheriff got pissed off at me, walked around, put his arm around me and hit me in the kidney. Knocked the wind out of me. Jack was in the holding tank behind, heard it and he yelled, Richie are you alright?!

I said, No, and for 3 days I couldnt pee. It was hell.

In a holding tank in downtown LA, Richard reached out to the impossible to get a hold of, Larry Jacobs, at 95.5 KLOS radio, at that rare moment he was in. Marcella gave an interview with the #1 radio station in LA, from jail.

So I hang up the phone. Then the phone rings, its a black woman, and I hang up on her as shes asking for the biggest, blackest, meanest guy in the jail. My back was against the wall, and Im not feeling good, and he walks up to me. I knew I was gunna have to fight to save myself. Im thinking to myself, okay, were in jail, at least Ill go down fighting. He walks up to me and says, Dont you EVER hang up on my old lady again or Ill kill ya! and he walks away

Finally after being in jail for three days, Jack gets Captain Ed to get Richard out of Jail with $200 out of the head shop cash register.

With Californias Cannabis Hemp Initiative in 2016 going on the bill for voting, we encourage you to remember those that paved the road before us, and those that have served jail time for this plant.

    featured NEWS:

    DAN CAPENERSTAFF EDITOR

Purdue Agronomy Professor, Ron Turco, recently received State and Federal approval to conduct a three-year study on hemp at Purdue University. His team will research two varieties of the plant to identify its capacity for food and production material. A 50 pound bag of hemp seeds was ordered from Canada to initiate the project with planting to take place on arrival. Over a year ago, Indiana legislators signed into law the commercial growth and research of the versatile industrial hemp plant. However, lack of Federal approval has stalled the growing of the crop for study and research. Turco has reportedly has spent months jumping through hoops in getting the project approved and permitted, even though last years Federal Farm Bill re-opened the door for hemp production as a cash crop after nearly a century of prohibition.

Now, States and Universities are allowed to grow hemp for agricultural research provided that they obtain specific waivers from the DEA. Purdue received their waivers, and should be planting as this article goes to press.

Hemp was one of the first crops harvested by Pilgrims and the first settlers in the country, at George Washingtons request. It became a major crop in the Americas. It is an all-around plant that can be used for thousands of products including paper. Its seeds have high nutritional value, the fiber can be used instead of wood. It makes strong rope, hemp oil is high in omega vitamins, and the THC level of the plant is so low if you smoked it you would get cancer before getting high, according to Professor Turco.

Most research shows that re-legalization of the crop would be a monetary boom to the country, especially farmers. Thousands of trees would be saved, it could provide food and medicine, as well as clothing, wood and even concrete replacement, the list goes on and on.

The drawback seems to be peoples correlation of hemp with its cousin marijuana, and worried legislators havent yet realized positives far outweigh the false negative since smoking hemp doesnt get you high. Its a wonder it is still illegal to grow in this country, so we have to import from Canada, or Europe. There are signs the country, especially the Federal government, is slowly warming and waking up to the positives, at least in some states. Others are surely to follow.

    PAUL FIMBRESSTAFF EDITOR

On Saturday, June 13th, the first of potentially many annual Get Baked Sale events occurred in San Francisco. Hosted within the citys famous SOMA StrEatFood Park, the occasion drew together members of the medical cannabis community from across the state to focus on one specific form of medicinal cannabis, infused edibles. Edibles Magazine was invited to attend, and we had a one-of-a-kind experience.

We arrived midway throughout the day-long event at the cozy outdoor space of the StrEatFood Park. Although the place was still bustling with activity, we had missed the mornings pancake breakfast rush, which had drawn the largest crowds. Surrounding a number of ordinary food trucks, purveyors occupied booths and the venues (immobile) busses to vend their wares and inform attendees of their services. In addition to edible producers, a number of dispensaries, delivery services, and lifestyle products were on display. Some attendees casually puffed on pipes and joints while walking about the more open spaces, while others sipped, slurped, and munched on every type of food under the sun.

Although technically billed as an event for patients and non-patients alike, scant activities and services were available for attendees lacking the seemingly-ubiquitous colored wristbands that denoted a medical patient. While various booths did offer Carnival Games, for the most part this amounted to spinning a prize wheel and receiving discounts or free samples.

For attendees who did partake of samples and products for sale, their biggest concerns would have to be a low tolerance; most samples and products contained at least one dose of 10mg, with some products ranging all the way up to 1,000mg for patients with more extreme conditions.

However, there seemed to be almost a split mind guiding the crowd, with people from all walks of life. In addition to all the more lighthearted products and services, the community and attendees mostly seemed focused on one thing, getting the patients the medicine that best served their particular needs and conditions. A number of vendors expressed their conviction in the event, claiming they made an extra effort to attend due to the emphasis on edibles, the safest and most reliable form of cannabis consumption. There were a number of vendors advertising and selling high-CBD and non-psychoactive products aimed at inflammation. There were medicated Italian sodas and multiple types of ice creams. Cookie doughs, cakes, syrups, and even medicated salt were put on display. Indeed, there were simply too many variety of edibles in this one place to list them, and everyone seemed eager to help patients find the treatment they needed, even when it wasnt with their product, directing people to other booths. Rather than the more chaotic feel of the larger and more general interest events, I walked away from the whole experience feeling more like I had attended a rather pleasant, if somewhat rough around the edges, farmers market for medibles.

The First Annual 710 Event EVENT feature:

    ELLIOT REDMONDSTAFF EDITOR

The First Annual 710 Event in San Bernardino was definitely better than I was expecting. The event was presented by Chef Nugs and Kashmir. Usually first time events are tossed together pretty quickly and super disorganized, but not this event. It was not as big as the Cannabis Cup, but in my opinion, it was better, simply because you could sit down, have a conversation with everyone without being constantly interrupted. The hustle and bustle was not as distracting, and it seems people had real fun at this event, I know I did.

The venue was laid out nicely, and there were vendors both outside and inside. My favorite booth, (and this is just my personal opinion), was The Pirate Candy booth. Pirate Bill, what can I say, except thank you, for being such a great host, inviting my friends over like we were family, and treating us like kings. Even when party fouls took place, like breaking the Nectar Collector (sorry again!), it was no sweat.

Another wonderful booth I visited was the California Cannabis for Hemp Initiative 2016. On a political note, I have heard so much about this organization. They are truly passionate about the cause, and after speaking to them; they could not stand out more. Please check out their website, read it, and make an opinion for yourself based on facts www.cchi2016.org.

The 710 Show was a well-rounded event in San Bernardino. All musical guests were off the hook and went on stage in a timely manner, keeping the crowds happy. When I spoke to Chef Nugs regarding this event he said, I really enjoyed doing the 710 Experience Festival! It went very well, actually better than expected! All of our artists went up on time and were happy, the vendors were all happy at the end, and of course, all the fans were happy and had a great time! RACHEL ZEMSERSTAFF EDITOR

As the world of marijuana infused food products gets bigger and more people want to eat their medicine rather than smoke it, marijuana infusing chefs try to get more creative and make something that no one else is making in the medible market.

Food products like beef jerky and ice cream are highly regulated in this country by the FDA, USDA and local health departments. When you go to your local 7-11 and buy a stick of beef jerky, take a look at the label and you will see the made in a USDA facility stamp on it. When you buy ice cream from the supermarket you can feel somewhat safe in knowing that it was made in a manufacturing plant that properly processed the milk to ensure no pathogenic deadly bacteria is growing in there. The government regulates these food products for a reason, because if they are made incorrectly they can easily become contaminated and cause serious illness or even death.

When I visit local dispensaries and see that they are selling marijuana infused beef jerky and ice cream I have concerns. I wonder if the meat was dried properly to a water activity below 0.85 and I wonder where the milk and cream used to make the ice cream came from and if the manufacturer has a HACCP plan (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) and a proper Listeria testing program in place. Recently a well-known ice cream company Jenis (www.jenis.com) found listeria contamination in their production facility and had to have a major recall. Millions of dollars were lost and luckily no one got sick. They are now working on implementing a proper Listeria testing protocol to ensure that they catch any contamination before the product leaves the manufacturing plant. I wonder if the ice cream companies making marijuana infused frozen desserts are aware of this potential issue and what they are doing to ensure that no Listeria gets into their production line.

Dried meat products like processed meat sticks and beef jerky are regulated by both the USDA and local state health departments. Even though beef jerky and dried meat has been made and consumed by people for ages, there are still some safety regulations that must be followed to ensure that no pathogens or spoilage bacteria grow. Some of those regulations include:

A minimum dehydration temperature of 145F (165F for poultry) to inhibit pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms A final water activity level that falls well below 0.85 to prevent pathogen growth A final water activity level between 0.60 and 0.70 to inhibit spoilage bacteria, yeast and mold and to extend shelf life

I recommend that all medible food makers only make

EDIBLES SAFETY: Food Safety First The Perils of Ice Cream and Beef Jerky

non-potentially hazardous foods like dry cookies, crisp rice treats and candy like marshmallows and gummy bears. These types of products are lower risk and the high sugar in the food prevent bacteria from growing. If your state has a cottage food industry, you can find a list of non-potentially hazardous foods on their public health website. Here is a list of California non-hazardous foods: www.cdph.ca.gov/programs/Documents/fdbCFOfoodslist.pdf

Unfortunately, the marijuana food industry is not getting the proper and crucial support it needs from the USDA, FDA and local health departments. Food safety is not intuitive and is more involved than washing hands and taking a safe serve online class. If you dont know how to implement a HACCP plan and if you dont have a water activity unit to ensure that your beef jerky has an Aw below 0.85 then you could be putting dangerous food products on the market. Pathogens in food are dangerous to everyone but the very old, very young and immune-compromised community are the most susceptible to food borne illness.

    legal feature:

    KYMBER WARDSTAFF EDITOR

Edibles List Magazine got the distinct honor of sitting with the most well-known marijuana attorney ever, Bruce Margolin. Here are excerpts from that interview. EL: We wanted to talk about hemp activism and cannabis reform today and hear a little bit about what your path in the cannabis industry has looked like. You started your practice when you were 25, right? BRUCE: Thats right.

EL: So how long have you been in the industry?

BRUCE: Well, I have been defending marijuana cases since 1967. I am proud to say that I have defended more marijuana cases than any other lawyer in the country successfully, as well. I have also been involved with reformist activities. I ran for public office way back in 1968, 69 and 70. I ran for US Congress and Governor of California, always on the marijuana platform and tried to show the legitimacy of that platform in the public arena. Luckily, I didnt win or I would be stuck in Congress somewhere, but what I did was affect the way people think about the legitimacy of that policy. Since then, I have also been the head of NORML since 1973. Before becoming Director of Los Angeles NORML, I quit an organization called Coalition for the Abolition of Marijuana Prohibition (CAMP). So, I have been down for the cause a long time. Because of what happened in the first year of my practice, I saw in the courtroom how horrible it was to put young people in the same places as robbers and rapists. I was shocked it was over marijuana cases. Ultimately, when I would defend these cases and maybe some would face the time for sentencing on a case, I would think to say to the judge You know the ABA standards (the American Bar Association standards) on punishment, is really supposed to be based on the intended wrong. And Id say, tell me whats the intended wrong, Your Honor, in a case of something involving marijuana. Ultimately, they had no answers for that. The answer was simply, You broke the law thats why you are being punished. So, I realized that changing the law was the only way to resolve my frustration over the idea of people going to jail for marijuana; try to change the law, so that this would not happen. Over the years weve been able to effectuate all kinds of change. When I first started my practice, possession of any amount of marijuana was a felony which was punishable by 0-5 years in prison; and people did go to prison for five years. And since then, weve been able to pass many legislations, and many new laws in California. Were on the verge now, after many years, of finally legalizing marijuana in California; which I think will happen in 2016.

EL: What does Prop 215 actually do for MJ convictions?

BRUCE: In 1996, we passed Prop 215, which established medical marijuana laws for patients and the ability to grow marijuana for personal use, but nothing else. So, that made all kinds of problems with transportation and people wanted to share marijuana with other patients and there was nowhere to buy marijuana legally. Senate Bill 420, provided a whole new area of protections for patients. It provides basically, that patients can grow 6 mature plants or 12 immature plants and have up to 8 ounces of bud (flowers) and that shake doesnt count in the equation. So, that was a big break, in a lot of ways, but really that only provided protection for those limited amounts. EL: I know you have an app, the 420 Laws app. Can you tell us a little about that? I heard there is an interesting feature, the panic button.

BRUCE: Well, let me just say, everybody has their own view of how they should handle things when they come up. For example, youre talking to a police officer and you might want to cooperate to some degree and pass the attitude test - that might help. Our recommendation is that when you get pulled over, you listen to my app. The app provides not only my guide to marijuana; the guide also includes all 50 states laws. Matter of fact, its a guide that Ive been putting in the marketplace for 10 years. We are giving it to the public and its on my website for free as well; we put it in all the dispensaries, but the app in particular, is free as well.

It also provides a panic button, which automatically comes up in about 15 seconds. That panic button tells you how you might want to act towards a police officer when being detained, particularly for a DUI. What people dont know is that theyre not required under the law to take any tests. The app suggests that you ask the officer why youre being detained and leave it at that, without answering any questions. If they tell you they want you to take a field sobriety test, you can say, Officer, Id prefer not to take any tests. Of course, ultimately you have to take a blood, breath or urine test, otherwise you lose your license for 6 months, but when it comes to medical the use of medical marijuana theres no standard of proof that automatically makes you guilty, unlike alcohol. Typically, they use they way you drove, why you got pulled over, the field sobriety test or the statements that you made about when you use and how often you use. Those are the mistakes people often make, thinking theyre going to talk their way out of it and typically they put their foot in their mouth. Additionally, just because youre a patient doesnt protect you. EL: So one of the biggest things we have noticed within my generation is the lack of awareness for the pioneers who really brought forth the industry to where it is today, you were one of those people. Who are some the other people?

BRUCE: There were many of them, but what comes to mind and many peoples mind is, Jack Herer. Ive known him since the late sixties or early seventies. We were buddies for many, many campaigns together. Matter of fact, in this office we ran a campaign for legalization back in the seventies. We had people all over the place and Jack and I would hang out a lot. He was, shall we say, a very boisterous personality and he was very enthusiastic about the project. He lived on the streets and really put himself out there, in the thick of all it. He was also quite an entrepreneur and had quite a few products and all kinds of ways to make money to make a few bucks on the side. Him and I traveled together; we went to many organizations and meetings together. He used to come to the NORML meetings

and shake those up all the time. We used to do these events at the Federal Building in Los Angeles, because you have a right to demonstrate there. These events were kind of a springboard for all of the festivals that we have today about marijuana and all the aspects of and products that surround it. Jack used to travel all over the state and basically live in a van, but yet he had a home base in Van Nuys and had children. He wrote a very important book it, was called, The Emperor Wears No Clothes. In the book, he studied and researched what happened and how marijuana became illegal.

EL: Jack Herer was very eccentric. How was it working with him and his eccentricities?

BRUCE: Let me tell you, in the beginning of this, when I first met him he was a little bit hyper. He was, lets just say, very explosive. Hed be yelling and screaming all the time and he was very difficult in the meetings wed have. Hed do his best to take over the meetings and be very defiant. He was also very much against these organizations, including NORML itself. He would come to our meetings and disrupt them, but over the years he calmed down. He realized the importance and value of building a reputable organization, that speaks rationally and intelligibly about the issue. His views were very extreme in some ways, for me they were very real and very right. Thats what the California Hemp & Health Initiative (CHHI), also known as California Cannabis Hemp Initiative (CCHI), which he basically wrote, includes many things that I would like to see in our next initiative. Most people refuse to think its going to be possible to pass.

EL: We think its most important that everyone know their rights, know the laws, and just be aware. A lot of people dont know that they actually charge you by total weight, not grams or milligrams in marijuana edibles.

BRUCE: The Federal court, defines the drug as a substance containing marijuana. That means you can have a pound of chocolate and a gram of weed, and youre going to be charged with a pound of weed. In California, we dont have that; so thats why theyre unable to prosecute edible cases.

Kamala Harris is our Attorney General in California, who should be writing new guidelines. Senate bill 420 states that, the Attorney General of the state, should write guidelines as to how the law should be interpreted. Jerry Brown wrote these in 2008, but since that Kamala Harris had not been able to come up with new guidelines. She claims she wrote a letter to legislature, in 2011, asking them to clarify medical marijuana laws; including the formation and operation of marijuana dispensaries, the definition of profit, and concerns about edibles. EL: A lot of people dont know that marijuana Schedule I drug and it has no medical benefit benefits, according to the Federal Government. How long do you think its really going to take federal government to change that?

BRUCE: Unfortunately, we just had a ruling by a federal judge where we thought that person was going to finally say, its an irrational claim; that there are no medical benefits. Sure enough, they sucked it up and voted for the government again. So, I dont know how long its going to take and I dont know why theyre holding on to this; except that behind-the-scenes is the pharmaceutical companies. They dont want to legalize marijuana, because youre not going to use the Advil, youre going to be smoking a joint.

    B. LE GRANDEDITOR-IN-CHIEF

Las Vegas, NV - Vendors and attendees showed up on May 15th-17th for the first ever HempCon Las Vegas at the Cashman Center.

Alleged rumors circulated before the event about the potential of undercover cops checking out the event Friday and Saturday, planning to make their drug trafficking arrests by Sunday.

Our team drove up to the Cashman Center with only an hour left in the show for Friday, only to find police arresting vendors and confiscating product as well as personal supplies of medicine from exhibitors.

At least ten people are known to have been detained at the event - two of those vendors could be facing life sentences for drug trafficking. Companies attending the event were under the impression they were in fact compliant with local laws at medical marijuana conference, specifically for licensed caregivers and patients.

A joint task force of law enforcement, local Clark County Metro police, Henderson police, and DEA banded together for the 3-day raid utilizing undercover police, a S.W.A.T. team van, and a K-9 drug unit. Cannabis flowers, concentrates, oils, seeds, edibles and apparently psychedelic mushrooms were among the items confiscated.

HempCon designated iBudtender as the sole mediator of vendor space. Vendors were sold on the idea that they were allowed to sell product at the event to recoup the cost of the booth and expenses, even though the contract details confusingly stated otherwise.

In an interview with Dabs Magazine, owner of I
