Functional test procedure

2 Functional test procedureThe tests were carried out as described in Test Specification forFeatures[1] and aimed to validate the Nokia Flexi EDGE features [2].

Table 1 presents the software versions of network elements within theNokia BSS used during the testing. The versions of Flexi EDGE BTSsoftware and BTS Manager are described in Release Notefor BTS SWEP1 [4].

Network simulation test

3 Network simulation testThis testing phase used a cluster of Nokia Flexi EDGE and Nokia EDGEUltraSite BTS sites in a Nokia Base Station Subsystem environment.

During this long term network test, different aspects of Base Stationconfiguration were used:

Nokia Flexi EDGE BTS Hardware module versions and GSMfrequency bands

Abis transmission type: E1, T1, FlexBus microwave radio

BTS site sector capacity, number and RF combiner configuration

Controlled variable RF radio conditions

Simulated network operation aspects were then performed on theBTS sites

End user traffic (voice, SMS, packet data (GPRS & EDGE) andmobility management traffic)

BTS testing from BSC (TRX test and Abis loop)

Interworking with Nokia EDGE UltraSite (Handovers and MultiBCF)

Use of remote Nokia BTS Manager connection from Nokia NetAct

Transmission performance management data collection from BSC

Operator administrator operations from Nokia Base StationController (BSC) and local BTS Manager

For the duration of the test, the BTS sites were monitored periodically.

No unexpected alarms or observations were raised from NokiaFlexi EDGE sites or BSC traffic observation during normal siteoperation

No false indication raised from BTS site Rx RSSI Antennamonitoring

All operator actions where completed successfully

Evaluation

4 EvaluationAs the result of the feature testing [1], open EP1 BTS software andNokia BTS Manager software problems have been added to the EP1
