B. Summary of the Lesson Plan : This lesson will compare and contrast between student and parents/guardians. The students will be

able to see what they have in common and what is different about each other.

C. Basic Information: Grade Level: 1 grade Time to Complete this Lesson: 45 – 50 minutes Groupings: Whole group, individual

D. Materials: Compare & Contrast map; see attached Writing paper per student

E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards

H3.1.2 Compare and/or contrast their daily lives with those of their parents or guardians.

o Student-Friendly Standards H3.1.2 I can tell what is the same and what is different between what

you as students do and what your parents or guardians do?

F. Vocabulary Compare: Things that are the same. Contrast: Things that are different.

G. Procedure: 1. TW will go over definitions and leave them up on the board so students will be able

to refer back to them as they are working on their assignment.2. TW go over what they did yesterday, starting with rules and then leadership last.3. TW have the student’s list leaders that are in the community.4. TW have student’s say what their parent’s/guardians do for work and write it down

on the board.5. TW place the compare/contrast map on board and model what is expected of the

students.6. TW hand out compare/contrast map to students. SW write 5 things on compare

side and 5 things on contrast side.7. SW show the teacher when they are done.

8. TW have them write one sentence for compare and one sentence for contrast.9. TW move around the room to observe and help the students.

Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding?

TW use the compare/contrast map and the sentences as a guide to see the understanding of the students. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the

lesson. Students will have listed 5 things on each compare/contrast category and the sentence they

wrote.

H. Closure: Students will share their sentences with the class.

I. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?

This whole lesson seems like it would be easy to teach.2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

Making sure each student knows what their parents/guardians do for a living.3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson?

Teach occupations that people do in the community.4. What can you do for students who don’t grasp the concepts?

If it is a small group, I would pull them into a group and work with them on the assignment.

5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?I can’t think of anything that I would change in the lesson.

6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part?I didn’t really have trouble with writing this plan.
