Mother’s Day On Sunday it was Mother’s Day, so last week we did some Mother’s Day writing (poems). There were many different types

of poems we could write like a tritina or a recipe.

The Mother’s Day celebration can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals to honour the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele. Although the clearest modern example for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival

known as “ Mothering Sunday. ’’

Twenty teachers visited our school today to learn about the enviroschool programme. Who better to teach them than our students? Not only did our kids plan and run the tours and activities for these teachers, but a group of

senior students planned and hosted the entire event - organising everything from the health and safety plan to the waste management plan and the food and drinks. This was an awesome opportunity for students to strengthen their key competencies in a real life situation. They have communicated, collaborated and problem solved and enjoyed the experience. Yet another group of visiting educators were genuinely astounded by our confident, creative, passionate, articulate kids. Thanks to Chelle Pratt for two whole days spent overseeing the Pavillion - what a great role model you are for our Student Volunteer Army!

Mothers Day writing by Brooke Forde

Mothers Day Postponed Mothers day has been postponed in the Harper and McDonald houses because of the first weekend of the 2016 duck shooting season. There are some people like Ethan and Brooke who stayed home for Mothers Day. Brooke stayed home and gave his Mum his Mother’s Day writing and went duck shooting later in the afternoon.

Ethan stayed home and made his Mum breakfast in bed and gave her his Mother’s Day writing and went duck shooting later on in the afternoon. But my Mum and Sharon Harper postponed Mother’s Day so that we could go out early in the morning. This weekend on Sunday we will be a family all together. We will give Mum breakfast in bed and my Mother’s Day card. I am sure the Harper kids will do the same.

Bee Hut renovations This week Mr Murray has been busy putting up the boards that Room 7 have produced for the Bee Hut. The Bee Hut has been designed to educate people about bees and includes information about how honey is made and its health benefits, information about inside the hive and all about the Beehive in Wellington. Please call in next time you are passing and have a look and a big thank you to Mr Murray, our builder extraordinaire!

Hockey I went to hockey last night. I played it and it was awesome. By Ellie Pyle, Room 3

The Adventurers writing I got to shoot a hare because it was on the duck pond. I missed it. By Jared Hunt Room 3

Mothers Day writing by Callum Taylor

Your hands are working hands Not just 9 to 5 working hands I remember your milking hands

Dirty and warm Calving hands, slimy and cold. Your hands are loving hands Gentle and warm when I’m sick I remember your town hands Clean, moisturised and dressed up Cooking hands, kneeding and peeling. Your hands are playing hands Throwing and catching I remember your tidying hands Luxing and dusting when we’re going away Driving hands, focussed and clenched.

Your hands are laughing hands Giggling, storyteller’s hands I remember your homework hands Smart and helpful Support hands, shouting and clapping. Your hands are scratched, cut, thin skinned, long fingered Your veins are blue rivers flowing down your hands. I’ve memorized your working hands I hope I end up with your working hands Milking, claving, loving, town and cooking hands

I LOVE YOU more than the moon and back.

RIPPA This year we have been training very hard to get into the Limehills Rippa Team when the tournament is next Friday. Each day we have to play a game of rippa at morning tea and lunch. There are about 20 people trialling to get into the team. Mr Murray would watch each game to make a good team. Mr Murray has decided the team on Tuesday. Mr Murray also taught

all of us some skills and tactics. Thanks to Mr Murray who taught us all the skills and we most likely wouldn’t have had the chance to play Rippa and that would be an opportunity gone for the rest of us. The Rippa Team is...

Mr Murray has no more hair left because he is still deciding on the Rippa team as we have so many talented athletes. Watch this space........

A big thanks to Mr Murray!

TIME CAPSULES Part of Room 7 and 8’s homework was to make a time capsule. In our time capsule we put toys, photos, clothes, letters, posters, newspapers [newsletters] and other things that are special to us. The time capsules are hidden for a certain amount of time. We will came back when we are 21 years old in 10 and ½ years in 2026 and open them to see if we have changed much. Mr Murray will hide them somewhere at school and they will not be opened until that date.

Here is a photo of them. By Amelia Thorburn
