Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach Communications and External Relations Internship Department: Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach (EDCO) Hours/Rate: 20 hours per week minimum; $10 - $15 per hour (commensurate on experience) Time Frame: Thursday, May, 26 th through Friday, August 19 th (employment may be extended based on successful fundraising efforts and job performance) Job Description The Communications and External Relations (CER) Intern is responsible for the following: Providing overall support to the Office of Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach and the Director of Educational Equity, in regards to special projects; Preparing distribution and contact lists for recruitment, marketing, external affairs, and public relations purposes; Updating communications and social media materials and mediums, including but not limited to EDCO website and Facebook pages, Academic Affairs website, BMLI website, and corresponding newsletters; Preparing materials for recruitment and training events; Serving as student representative at special events (e.g., recruitment fairs, student organization fairs, LSU Day, etc.); Organizing EDCO storage room and materials; Assisting EDCO staff and graduate assistants in preparation and/or set-up for special events (e.g., trainings, seminars, celebrations, etc.); and Other duties and projects as assigned Requirements The CSI should: 1) Be a junior, senior, or master’s student who 1) is pursuing a degree in external relations-field (e.g., mass communications, communication studies, human resource management, English, marketing, or business field) or 2) has extensive experience in preparing marketing materials or correspondence, working with spreadsheets, social media, and document/print editing. 2) Be able to work occasional evenings and weekends 3) Have an interest in diversity and community outreach 4) Be a self starter and independent worker, in addition to being able to work in a fast-paced environment Submitted a cover letter, résumé, and references to the information below by May 10, 2011: Marco Barker, Ph.D., Director of Educational Equity Equity, Diversity & Community Outreach 135 Thomas Boyd Hall, Baton Rouge, LA 70803 [email protected] About EDCO Equity, Diversity Community Outreach (EDCO) in the Office Academic Affairs is committed to fostering inclusive educational opportunities and an equitable workforce environment at LSU. EDCO is also responsible for supervising and guiding professional units whose purpose and mission is to promote understanding and respect for difference. These units include the Office of Multicultural Affairs, African American Cultural Center, Women’s Center, and two EDCO offices responsible for community outreach and campus- community coalitions.
