Hello Everyone
Welcome to another great adventure. This time we will explore Ecuador and the City of Heavens. This trip takes you through both the Eastern and Western Andes and down into the Amazonian basin. While in the Amazon basin, we will visit a village located on the shores of the Napo river to learn from the indigenous people living in the rainforest. A visit to Ecuador is not complete without a visit to the Otavalo Market, the largest and richest trading spots in South America. From flowers to textiles and Llamas, you name it.

Day Itinerary Activities
1 MCO-OIU Arrival to Quito. Transfer from airport. Depending on how early or late the flight arrives is what we will be able to do on that day. Most flights available so far arrive late at night. Lodging: Rincon de Puembohttp://www.rincondepuembo.com/
2 Puembo Today we travel south to visit the Antisana Volcano in search of some unique birds that live in the paramo. Target species include the Carunculated Caracara, Andean Lapwing, Andean Condor and many other high altitude species. Lodging: http://www.rincondepuembo.com/
3 Puembo - Misahualli After breakfast we will leave to our next destination on the Amazon basin but not without exploring the Papallatca Pass for a few more native species. The trip to Misahualli takes us through some breathtaking views of the Western Andes as we descend to the rainforest zones. The lodge is surrounded by a 550 acres private preserve for us to explore. 4 Misahualli Today we embark on a motorized canoe trip of the Napo river to visit an indigenous village and explore the Misicocha Protected Zone. We will have lunch along the river returning to the lodge late that afternoon.

5 Misahualli Today we will explore La Playa de los Monos and some of the roads leading to the Amazon. These roads are little traveled providing great opportunities to see wildlife. Along the rivers, we will look for the famous Hoatzin or Stink bird, one of the most ancient birds species, so ancient that their babies are born with claws on their wings that are used to climb while they’re too young to fly.

6 Misahualli - San IsidroCosanga
Today we head back up the Eastern Andes to our next destination, San Isidro Lodge, stopping along the way to shoot some waterfalls. At San Isidro, we will have countless opportunities to photograph birds of middle elevations. Additionally, there are a number of mammal species near and around the lodge including: Night Monkey, Black Agouti, Paca, Ocelots, Andean Coati, and Mountain Tapir.

7 San Isidro, Cosanga On this morning we will explore the nearby Macaw Trail in search of more wildlife. Later, we will scan the river rocks for Torrent Ducks, a unique species of waterfowl.

8 San Isidro Another day in Paradise to take as many pictures as we want of the magnificent birds around the lodge.

9 San Isidro - Mindo Today we head over to Mindo, but not without stopping at Guango Lodge for lunch and to photograph the most peculiar bird, the Swordbill hummingbird. The lodge grounds offer some great hummingbird photography with more than 10 species visiting the feeders but also colorful birds such as the Black-faced Flowerpiercer, Azure Jays and even the Torrent Ducks can be found down by the river. We will cross the Eastern Andes passing through Quito and countinuing to the Western Andes until we reach MIndo.

10 Mindo After breakfast we will head down Mindo road to look for some fascinating bird species. The cloud forest here is one of the most productive in South America. 11 Mindo Today we will visit el Refugio Paz de Las Aves. This will be an early start as we need to reach the Andean Cock of the Rock lek before sun comes out. The Andean Cock of the Rock is one of the most sought-after birds in world; people from all over come to experience their mating rituals.

12 Mindo - Otovalo Today we’ll start our way back towards Otovalo, passing through amazing landscape and paying a quick visit to Tandayapa. A visit to the Middle of the World is on the schedule for the day. On arrival to Otovalo we’ll explore the lake before settling in our beautiful hotel.

13 Otovalo - Puembo On this morning we’ll head out to the Otovalo Market one of the largest markets in South America. There you will experience the art, produce and textiles that make Ecuador so famous. We may try buying a lama at the animal market and try some of the local foods. In the afternoon we’ll visit Parque Condor to see some local raptors performance. Then we will continue traveling back to Puembo.

14 Cotopaxi - Puembo Today we will leave early to visit the Cotopaxi, National Park and its impressive snow-capped volcano. There we’ll have the chance to photograph many high altitude species and gorgeous landscapes.

15 Puembo - Orlando On our last day in Ecuador we will visit the historic city of Quito’s, then after a late lunch we’ll head over to the airport to get ready for our flight back home. Places to visit include the Basilica del Voto Nacional, El Panecillo, Plaza Grande and few more.

ECUADOR EXPEDITION (Amazon, Eastern & Western Andes) PRICING$3,400 (7 participants)* Cost does not include airfare estimated at $700 from Orlando International
Price is based on double occupancy; for a single room throughout the trip add $300. A deposit of $1000 per person is required to secure your space on the trip. This deposit is used to purchase your air tickets. In the case you want to book your own ticket, the deposit is applied to your balance for the trip.
What is Included?All meals and transportation as well as boat tours, national park entrance fees, naturalist guide and photography guide. Tips and international flight are not included in the above price.
