Existing Design•Light falls off as approach southern wall•Students still prefer to paint with electric lights on

Redesign•Distributes light deeply• Skylight fixtures diffuse light throughout•Creates ambient light•Primarily cloudy skies; works well with skylights

Hours of OperationAssuming full school day of 7:30- 3:30 = 8 hrs/day

Monday-Friday = 40 hrs/day 160 hrs/month

Current Spending.032 kw/hr for 1 lamp . 032kw/hr X 160 = 5.12 kw/hr/monthAverage cost in Idaho for 2008 was 6.24 cents per kwH5.12 X .0624 = .32 .32 X 112 lamps = $35.78 per month

Approximately $430 per year

Redesign PossibilitiesStudio only used during intermediate/advanced painting from 11:30- 1:30 MWWith the new lighting scheme adequate day lighting will be sufficient during duration of work day resulting in no electrical lighting needed

• Initially the loft is an adequate daylight room. There are areas that can be improved specific to painting needs

• Needed to double the amount of daylight to rid of electrical light usage• Potentially saving $430 per year

• Skylight scheme achieved this as well as:• Reducing glare• Increasing illuminance distribution• Taking advantage of abundant

cloudy weather
