Arctic

The Arctic is a very cold, windy, and often snowy biome located around

the North Pole.

Arctic

The most extreme Arctic land is called

the High Arctic Zone which is the

closest to the North Pole.

Arctic

Animals that live in the Arctic are

adapted to extreme conditions. Many of these animals have a coat that thickens and changes color

to white during the winter as

camouflage in the snow.

Arctic

Some animals that live in the Arctic are the Arctic fox, the ermine, and puffins.

Rainforests

Rainforests are very dense, warm, wet

forests.

Rainforests

They are havens for millions of plants

and animals which generate much of

the Earth's oxygen.

RainforestsTropical rainforests are

located in a band around the equator where it’s warmest. Tropical rainforests are found in South

America, West Africa, Australia,

southern India, and Southeast Asia.

The Amazon

Madagascar

Rainforests

Ridiculously huge numbers of animals live in rainforests, including insects and worms, fish,

reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals.

Desert

Deserts cover about one fifth of the

earth's land area.

Desert

The desert is a harsh environment with very little rainfall and extreme temperatures. Deserts get less

than 10 inches of rain every year!

Desert

Some deserts get both very hot (during the day) and very cold (during the night)

when temperatures can drop well below

freezing.

Desert

Different animals live in the

different types of deserts, such as the armadillo,

camel, and roadrunner.

Coral Reef

Coral reefs are warm, clear, shallow ocean habitats that are rich

in life. The reef's massive structure is formed from coral

polyps, tiny animals that live in colonies.

Coral ReefThere are two types of coral, hard coral and soft coral.

-Hard corals have hard, limestone skeletons which form the basis of coral reefs. -Soft corals do not build reefs.

Coral Reef

The Great BarrierReef (off the coast of NE Australia) is the

largest coral reef in the world. It is over 1,257 miles (2000 km) long.

Coral Reef

The coral provides shelter for many animals such as Reef Sharks, groupers, clown fish,

and eels.
