GOAL

I would like to research Economy. I will like to

find out how they used money and when they

started to use it. I also would like to see

how the rich and poor lived. I want to find

out how they traded and bartered and what

they got in return. I would like to see how

much everyone gets paid too. I will present it

by Power Point and I want to work on it for

one day.

MONEY(COINS)

In the fifth century silver and gold pieces were made. But before coins were invented, they would trade instead. They didn’t use money until the 4th century B.C. The cost was measured in Deben, a copper weight that weighed half an ounce. For home supplies it would be 2 Deben, but for animals it would be about 20 Deben, but that all depended on which animals it was. They would barter for animals instead of buying them because it would probably be a lot cheaper to do that instead.

THESE ARE DEBEN

Deben was worth one-fourth of a gram of

gold.

RICH PEOPLE

The rich had gigantic houses, super fine

jewelry, and really comfortable seats and

beds. They had comfortable life styles. The

richest people in Egypt, where the Pharaoh,

his/her family. The next richest was the

vizier, then officials. As you can see there

was not many rich people in Ancient egypt.

POOR PEOPLE

Poor people had a hard life. Their life would be

hard labour and maybe slave trade, but only

if they were a slave, and if they got paid

enough they would be really lucky to own a

donkey for transportation. Most people were

poor in ancient egypt though. The problem

was there was no in between, you were

either rich or poor…

JOBS

These are the jobs from most paid to least

paid:

The Pharaoh, Scribes, Priests, Embalmer,

Doctor, Farmer, Tomb Builder, Soldier,

Goldsmith, Artist, Dancer, Boatman, and then

there were slaves, of course they got nothing

usually.

TRADE(BARTERING)

Trade was done by bartering. The Egyptians got very wealthy because of trade. They traded over the Mediterranean sea, and other parts of Africa. They traded things like barley, wheat, linen, papyrus, and rope. In return they would get, gold, silver, copper, iron, jewels, spices, ostrich eggs, feathers, timber and even slaves. They used boats to trade with other places. The Egyptians used the most possible and accurate system of measurement for trade. They also used tax to trade with others that use tax too, or else that wouldn’t be fair.

REFLECTIONS

Doing economy was easier than I thought it would be. It was easy to find trade and bartering. Also, it was easy to find the order of jobs and how people lived. Like, the poor life and the rich life. I liked researching economy, it was practically as easy as researching agriculture!! I guess l liked doing the self study. I just don’t like getting a lot of work. I hope we can do it again next year, maybe on Ancient Greece
