VICE-PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

I find myself humbled to have the opportunity to offer a message of hope and good cheer as

we gear up for the holiday season. As we prepare for the annual winter concert, classes are

working hard to finalize their performances and organize their art work. With so many pres-

sures on a day to day basis we often forget to find time to celebrate the simple things in life;

conversation, a hot cup of cocoa, time with family or visits with loved ones, so I want to en-

courage everyone to make that time this month and

come celebrate with us during the winter concert.

Remember that the formal written reports on student learning will be going home

before December 14th.

We are continuing to look out for everyone’s safety in and around the school and we need

your help! Remember to observe the signs that are now posted and come in to see us at the

office when you come to visit!

COLD WEATHER

Please help us by reminding your child/ren to dress appropriately for the colder weather. The cut off is

–18 including wind chill so they are outside almost every day for some period of time. We have had many

complaining of cold hands and of feeling really cold — they are not wearing heavy enough jackets and

other clothing items. Your assistance is appreciated as with colder weather approaching, this will become

even more important. For more information, you can find the School District’s Cold Weather policy on the

district website www.sd57.bc.ca

CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Wednesday, Dec 19h, 2018

NOTE: start time of 10:45

10:45am-12:00pm 1:00pm-2:15pm

CHRISTMAS CONCERT—REMINDER

Our school Christmas Concert will be Wed, Dec 19 from 10:45 to 12:00 and from 1:00 to 2:15. All students

will be performing at both concerts. The reason we are offering two concerts is because of our large

population. We are asking parents to please follow our request: if your child is in an even division,

parents/guardians and other family members are asked to come to the morning concert. If your child is in

an odd division, please come to the afternoon concert. Please be careful where you park so you don’t

obstruct residents’ driveways.

MME HANSON’S MUSIC CLASS

Every class at Lac des Bois is hard at work preparing for our Spectacle d'hiver which will be on Wednesday, December 19th. We have changed the start time for the morning concert to

10:45 in order to accommodate all our performers. We are looking forward to singing for you!

IT’S HERE!

We have been working toward a safer solution for the challenges of our parking, the parking lot

and the volume of traffic in the morning. We are now offering a free SHUTTLE BUS service

every morning from the CN Centre to the school. Students can register for this service.

Parents drive to the CN parking lot to the side near the soccer fields The bus meets you there and you

ensure your child boards the bus. It leaves at 8:15. Students arrive at school on time and you get to avoid

the parking lot! (Win Win )

LEARNING COMMONS / BIBLIOTHEQUE

We are celebrating all the hard work of the library club with a pizza party this week. These friendly interme-diate students help with decorating, shelving, making displays and bookmarks, organizing computers, etc. If your child would like to join the club they can ask us for a form.

We have had a Lego challenge with all the classes, with intermediate students creating their names and birthday cakes, and primary students creating an model of something that was in the story they just heard. Intermediate students are finishing up learning about personal and online safety. Primary students have been learning about authors that write in French at their reading level. This week the grade 1 and 2 classes are playing "little coder" for the hour of code. Older classes are being taught coding as ongoing programs by their teachers for hour of code.

Over the winter holidays students in grades 1-7 can take library books home. However if you are planning a

holiday where you are not in Prince George for the 2 weeks, let your child know so they do not sign out

books. Kindergarten students will not have books over the winter break.
