Executive Summary
LED technology: More than 30 years, LEDs have been used in a variety of areas including industrial systems, car lights, advertising, and Street lights.
Long life expectancy: 20 to 25 years for LED v 3 - 6 years for conventional lighting, means reduced maintenance costs, fewer lamp renewals and less inspection and physical monitoring.
Demonstrable health and safety benefits: More focused light improves night-time visibility which can reduce vehicle accidents and crime, with less spillage onto residential properties. (The UK Green Investment Bank, 2014)
Main Target is Birmingham City Council, once this trial is successful this will allow us to roll out this project to other counties.

20 Watts lamp
One day cost in pounds 20 W X 10 h X 0.12/1000 = 0.024
One year cost in pounds 0.024 X 365 = 8.76
Number of streetlights in UK 7.4 million
7.4 million LEDS cost per year7.4 X 8.76 = 64.824 millions
60 Watts lamp
64.824 X 3 = 194.472 millionDifference between 20W and 60 W LEDs
194.472 – 64.824 = 129.648If we use 20 w LED we could save £ 129.648 million per yearAccording to GIB research, less than 10 % are currently using low energy LEDs in UK, Therefore 90% of street lights need to be changed 90/100 X 7.4 million = 6.66 million street lights
• Lights used on average 10 hours per day • 1kW h cost £ 0.12
