Timber as a substratetimber moves, bends, warps, stretches and shrinks; these move-ments are due to changes in humidity levels in the environment surrounding the timber. as a result, when using timber or timber-based products as a substrate for ceramic tiles, whether for floor or wall coverings, these continual movements must be taken into account.
timber and ceramic tiles are not natural partners: the tiles are rigid and fragile, whereas the timber is flexible and can move in many directions if it is not properly supported and fixed. a timber substrate is a challenge for tile setters: there are a large number of variables that all contribute to movements in the timber, and they must be considered when laying ceramic tiles or natural stone slabs.

SaS timber teStSthe only standard that considers timber as a substrate for application of ceramic material is iSo 13007-2:2010, which only considers tensile stress as a characteristic value when identifying adhesive suitability.
h40® eco rapidflex is the first single-component adhesive to have been given the classification p2, high adhesion to plywood, according to iSo 13007-2:2010.
in order to reproduce actual load and deformation conditions, Kerakoll® researchers have perfected the first innovative cycle of special tests to assess both the suitability and durability of the SaS timber tested laying system.
h40® eco rapidflex is the first adhesive to have been tested on timber substrates in actual working conditions using the SaS timber tested method, exceeding the requirements of applicable regulations to guarantee that the bonded system will have the highest safety factor and durability.
Controlled concentrated compressionthe test sample is subjected to 20 concentrated compression strain cycles with an applied load of 7 kn.

TIMBER
new h40® eco rapidflex has been designed to be a high-performance adhesive on all types of substrate, for all types and formats of tile, even when laying on timber. its soft consistency makes the adhesive easy to spread, and this, together with the extended open time and improved workability, provides the laying professional with an easy-to-use, high-performance, rapid-setting adhesive.
SinglE-ComponEnT hot, cold, highly absorbent substrates are no longer a problem: when two-component systems are impossible to use, h40® eco rapidflex will work safely, as it maintains mixture consistency without compromising final performance.
pRolongEd woRkAbiliTy thanks to its innovative binding system, h40® eco rapidflex doubles the time the mixture can be used for compared with two-component systems, making your job quicker, safer and easier.
EASy To SpREAd h40® eco rapidflex remains at a constant consistency even during application, like a normal-setting adhesive, so that all formats of tile and natural stone can be laid well and easily without having to worry about the open time.
ExCEllEnT wETTAbiliTy the technological innovation of h40® eco rapidflex means that the adhesive under the tiles hardens evenly, even when the tiles are large format, so it gives greater flexibility and resistance to vibrations than traditional two-component systems, guaranteeing the timber, bonded system a level of durability that has never been achieved before.

Kerakoll® h40® eco rapidflex completes the first eco-friendly laying system for timber substrates according to the philosophy of Greenbuilding.
characteristics of the laying system: • Substrate made using Wbp or marine ply with a minimum
thickness of 15 mm, with screws every 300 mm. • the timber substrate is normally subject to vibrations due to foot
traffic and concentrated loads, sometimes high as in the case of heavy furniture or kitchen appliances.
• the adhesive must be able to transfer these loads from an extremely rigid material like porcelain tiles to the deformable substrate.
• the joints must allow movements in the ceramic coating caused, among other things, by heating, vibrations and movement of the substrate due to humidity.
