Statement of MissionThe Baptist College of Florida shall operate within the context of a Christian worldview to promote, provide for, operate and control a program of education and training for Christian leaders through awarding certificates and associate, baccalaureate and masters degrees in a co-educational post-secondary setting.

To fulfill its mission, the college seeks to develop those qualities in students that contribute to effective ministry. In the area of personal growth, we seek to foster a desire for knowledge; develop cultural awareness by introducing students to a wide range of knowledge; nurture the ability to acquire, evaluate, assimilate, and use information; and promote personal and social maturity.

For spiritual growth, we provide the resources for gaining biblical and religious data; we also assist students in learning and living the Christian life. In terms of professional growth, students are enabled to gain the credentials that enhance opportunities for ministry, and they learn to master a specialized body of knowledge.

At the same time, we encourage positive attitudes toward ministry and foster both an awareness of and a loyalty to the Southern Baptist heritage.

A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

As I write to you today I find myself reflecting on the fact that this is my twenty-fifth annual report in

Echoes. Ruth Ann and I have been talking about the fact that we have spent over half of our married life at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF). When we came here our children were in high school and college. Now they are in their forties and the parents of our five grandchil-dren. In fact, some of our grandchildren are enrolled at BCF. A lot has changed in our lives and the life of this great school in the last twenty-five years. I often tell folks that I was a young man with a promising future when I came here, and now I am an old man wondering where the time went. (However, that is not the case because I know exactly where it went.) On arriving here I had no idea of the task and the opportunities that lay ahead. What I can tell you now is that the blessings have been greater and the future is brighter than I ever imagined.

The picture on the front cover of this edition of Echoes was taken by two of our students, Sydney Bod-den and Jeffrey Basford, utilizing a drone with a camera mount. Each time that I have looked at this particular photograph I have been amazed not only at the beauty of a growing campus but also at the perspective of the horizon beyond where we are located. I am absolutely convinced that our horizons are without limit. They are as wide as the heart of God and as far as the last person

who needs to hear the Gospel. These horizons will be realized through the blessings of our Lord as He works through His faithful people. I want to thank each of you who have supported The Baptist College of Florida during the last year. Without your help we would not be able to do all of the things that are necessary for the edu-cation and training of the Next Greatest Generation for “Changing the World through the Unchanging Word®.”

As you read the pages of this issue of Echoes, I hope that you will pray for the mission of this great school, thank our Lord for those who have joined in the work through their support, and seek our Lord’s guidance as to what He will have you to do in support of His work here. Together we will see far beyond our limited hori-zons to His great plans for The Baptist College of Flor-ida. God bless you in your walk with Him and with us. I am looking forward to what He has planned for us in the future.

God Bless You,

Tom KinchenPresident

to have two BCF graduates (1986 and 1989) back on campus on March 2, 2015.

Gino Mayo, Chaplain and Grief Specialist at Emer-ald Coast Hospice, addressed the American As-

sociation of Christian Counselors (AACC) at The Bap-tist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville during their monthly meeting. Mayo provided BCF students with valuable information on therapeutic communication dealing with individuals facing the loss of a loved one.

According to BCF Christian Counseling Profes-sor Kristy Ford, students were not only informed but also encouraged as Mayo engaged and interacted with students allowing them to express their thoughts and ideas. Students were able to explore different life issues

with Mayo and the subsequent need for trained coun-selors and facilitators. “I am very impressed with these young counselors,” stated Mayo. “It encourages me to see the dedication and ability of this group. This is cause to be excited about this new generation of people with a calling to help those in need.”

The Baptist College of Florida offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Counseling preparing men and women to serve in positions of leadership in counseling. To learn more about the degree, call 850.263.3261 ext. 460 or visit the website at www.bap-tistcollege.edu.

“ON MISSIONS” IS A LIFESTYLEfor BCF students

When students at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville hear the word “Missions” an immediate ex-

citement rushes over them at the prospect of sharing the Gos-pel and leading someone to the Lord. For BCF students, being on mission and sharing their faith is not only a lifestyle but a deep commitment that was settled long ago. Over the years, BCF students have served in locations as far as the Middle East and as close as right across the street; determined to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. These same students believe that there is no place too dark or too far away where the love of Christ shouldn’t be proclaimed.

“One thing I’ve learned is that, despite the terminology, there is no difference between mission work and my life,” stated BCF Missions major Coral Molchanoff. Previously, Molchanoff spent her summer break sharing her faith with people in Asia. Although doing missionary work sounds like a “fun” adven-ture, many people struggle with being away from their home culture and find themselves missing the people with whom they are close. Despite the challenges and hardships, mission-aries consistently explain how God provides for those who are obedient to His call. “From my own experience, one blessing from God is infinitely better than any and all accomplishments gained by living a life of your own design,” stated Molchanoff. “I’ll let you in on something: God is kind and compassionate and faithful. By giving up everything to Him and being truly surrendered in all areas of your life, He will give you some-thing so much better. The life you will lead won’t be without its hardships but the rewards far outweigh them.”

Missionary work is not limited to traveling overseas or serv-ing with international missions organizations. Many BCF stu-dents find themselves travelling to different states around the country helping with Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs, disaster relief ministries, church planting, volunteer canvasing, teen challenges, summer camps, and so much more. For exam-ple, BCF alumnus Jolina Janus is currently serving as a Church

Plant Intern in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin with the North American Mission Board (NAMB). The church that Janus is helping to start is called Church at Wazee-cha. “There are hard days where I am drained emo-tionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically,” stated Janus. “But that is when God re-minds me of His faithfulness and reminds me of who He

is.” Though Janus is getting use to the snow and much colder environment, she has thoroughly enjoyed watching the people of the church grow. “What mission work means to me is reach, disciple, train, and send. This is the vision for the Church at Wazeecha and I believe it encom-passes what we as the church are called to do.”

Recently, a 2009 BCF alumnus returned to the campus to share how the Lord brought her home from mission work in Peru to minister to an unreached peo-ple group just outside of Atlanta. Keeping her identity and the Iraqi women with which she currently works with confidential, her call is with the Global Frontier Mis-sions. For over a year, she has been working with the Northern Iraqi Kurdish women. “I under-stand their story and their bro-kenness,” she stated. “I want to show them God’s grace and His love.” Her final thought was “you have to love Jesus” and be willing-ly to go where He leads.

Foundational classes taught at The Baptist College of Florida re-inforce the Christian responsibility and command to missions. “We need to be reminded that mission work is more than just a two week trip,” said Molchanoff. “Once you surrender to Christ, it is your whole life. Every day, every decision, every aspect of your life involves bringing the gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world.”

Former Resident Director (RD) and BCF alumnus Jolina Janus is currently serving as a Church Plant Intern in Wisconsin.

DR. SULLIVAN DONATESThe Baptist College of Florida

(BCF) in Graceville recently re-ceived what has been described by its President, Thomas A. Kinchen, as “the most significant literary gift collec-tion that I have seen in my twenty-five years at the college.” John Sullivan, retired executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, do-nated his personal collection of sev-eral thousand books, denominational articles, historical journals, personal papers and other memorabilia to the collection in the Ida J. McMillan Li-brary located at the BCF main campus in Graceville. Kinchen further stated that, “Few individuals have collected a greater number of significant volumes that document Christian and specifi-cally Baptist life than has John Sulli-van. Several years ago, I asked Dr. Sul-livan to consider leaving his collection to BCF. I knew then that this would

greatly enrich our holdings, and now I am celebrating the fact that current and future generations of students will benefit from this leader’s stewardship.”

Sullivan’s twenty-six years of ser-vice as executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention is the longest in the history of Florida Baptist life, and it is among the lon-gest tenures of any State Executive Director in Southern Baptist history. Kinchen noted, “Dr. Sullivan has giv-en outstanding leadership to Florida Baptists for over a quarter of a centu-ry. The history that he leaves here has helped to shape the work of this state convention, and the legacy that he has left in the donation of his library will help to shape the lives and ministries of countless students in the future.”

2014 SUPPORTERS TRIBUTE

GOD & the IRS

In deep appreciation to those who have shared the vi-sion and supported the mission of The Baptist College

of Florida, the following list acknowledges gifts received during the preceding calendar year. Extreme care is ex-ercised to ensure accuracy in the annual report of gifts. Please call (800) 328-2660 ext. 416 for questions or to provide additional information. Gifts to The Baptist College of Florida are an investment in the preparation of men and women for Christian service and ministry. Supporters are recognized in categories on the follow-ing pages for their faithfulness and generosity!

*deceased during 2014

Each year at this time most Americans are looking for receipts, vendor statements, expense records

and dozens of other things, because they are preparing for the April 15 deadline to file tax returns to the IRS. Some individuals experience great anxiety, sleepless nights, and irritable personalities because of the fear of not satisfying a government agency. No doubt, of the hundreds of governmental organizations, the one most feared and dreaded is the income tax collecting service of our federal government.

Would it not be wonderful if we were this anxious about our financial responsibility to our Lord who blesses us daily far beyond what we deserve. For many Christians, financial responsibility to God is the abso-lute least of their Christian concerns. Many pray that the government will never show up to audit their fi-nancial and tax records. Should we not be equally con-cerned that when we stand before God we will be asked to give an account of our contributions to Him?

This edition of Echoes contains the giving records of the many Christians who have made The Baptist Col-lege of Florida part of the ministries they support. We could never write enough letters, or make enough vis-its to thank them for their continued support. As you know, for the past few years gifts from the State Cooper-ative Program have been in decline because of the econ-omy. Christian colleges cannot operate on tuition alone but must also rely on people who believe in and support Christian Higher Education.

We would love to have you visit us and see what your gifts are providing for our students and the continued improvements on the campus. May God richly bless all of you for what you have done and continue to do for The Baptist College of Florida.

TEACHER EDUCATION SYMPOSIUMBCF HOLDS

What you are doing is Kingdom work and is vi-tally important,” stated Thomas A. Kinchen,

President of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville, as he welcomed students to the semi-an-nual BCF Education Symposium February 20. “You are all part of ‘Changing the World Through the Un-changing Word®’, one little child at a time.” During the one day event, students enjoyed an informative, hands-on presentation by Janis Johnson, the Florida Standards Training Grant Director at Chipola College. Students were eager to explore the different resourc-es that were provided, especially the online toolbox of information, resource, and interactive tool called CPALMS that help educators to effectively implement teaching standards.

According to the symposium coordinator, BCF Teacher Education Division Chair Susan Wegmann, “This semester’s Education Symposium was a thor-ough look at the assessment tools that the State of

Thank you to all the pastors, church staff, and students that attended BCF’s first Apologetics Conference on March 10.

According to Dr. Shawn Buice, Professor of New Testament and Greek and Expository Preaching Director, the event was a “huge success, and we look forward to holding more conferences in the future!”

Florida requires in public school settings. Preparing Teacher Candidates is a complex and serious endeav-or, so we were happy to provide this opportunity for our students.” In addition to the informative sessions, lunch, and door prizes, monetary stipends were given to participants, funded through the Florida Standards Grant. “We joined teachers and pre-service teachers across the state of Florida, getting the same training and resources that everyone else was afforded,” stated Wegmann. “In all, I was thrilled about the day and the near 100% attendance of our Teacher Candidates.”

Over the past two years, BCF students in the teach-er education program have donated or volunteered over 8,434 hours in local schools through teacher education internships, tutoring, and other activities, reaching more than 960 students. Wegmann indicat-ed that the overall economic impact of BCF student teachers activities in the local schools amounts to $64,688.

Dr. Kinchen addresses and prays for teacher candidates at the Education Symposium.

Dr. Wegmann expresses her joy and appreciation for the the work being done by our Teacher Education Students.

Congratulations BCF Alumnus Gary

Pierre and Lorphine St. Louis are founders of Future Generation

International Missions, Inc. (FGIM). Their mission is to provide hope and inspiration for the future generation of orphaned girls living in Haiti by providing food, clothing, shelter, ed-ucation and healthcare. On July 9, 2012, FGIM opened up an all girls or-phanage in Jacmel, Haiti, caring for 20 girls (ages 3-12 years old). Today, the orphanage cares for 30 girls and pro-vides state-side churches with oppor-tunities for short-term mission trips.

Due to a couple of bad experiences, Michael had “left the ministry.” Michael and Kathy

Young moved to the Panama City Beach area in 2005, thinking they would start a new ca-reer in real estate; however, the real estate mar-ket crashed shortly after. They spent their life savings trying to start a new business but with no success. A new-found friendship sparked a conversation about a group that was struggling to start a church for over a year in Rosemary Beach. Young offered to meet them and see if he could help. After subsequent meetings and the undeniable hand of God, in April 2006, the Chapel at the Beach was born.

At present, three congregations meet at the chapel: full-time, part-time, and one-timers. Young states, “It is an interesting and challeng-ing work to minister to these three groups. We are part local church, mission organization, and resort ministry. We give 55% of our budget to missions as well as encourage our people to get involved with hands-on ministry opportunities. We offer Sunday morning worship and weekly in-home Bible studies. God has blessed us be-yond our wildest dreams and we can’t wait to see what the New Year will bring!”
