General Information

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Echo Fiesta is designed to provide a practical review of the current uses and limitations of two-dimensional echocardiography, Doppler and color flow imaging in the assessment of adult myocardial, ischemic, pericardial and valvular heart disease. Traditional topics in the field of echocardiography including the assessment of systolic and diastolic function, quantitative Doppler, and stress echocardiography will be presented. In addition, newer techniques including 3D echo and Doppler and 2D strain imaging will be presented. The program will concentrate on practical points regarding daily use of these techniques with illustrative examples from a wide variety of cardiovascular disorders.

COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Identify current two-dimensional, three-dimensional, and Doppler methods to assess left ventricular systolic function (LV volumes, ejection fraction, cardiac output, index of myocardial performance);

• Develop an integrated approach to the assessment of valvular stenosis and valvular regurgitation, including quantitative assessment by the PISA method;

• Apply echo imaging and Doppler hemodynamic principles to the systematic assessment of prosthetic heart valves;

• Describe the diastolic filling patterns in diverse cardiac disorders including cardiomyopathies, systemic diseases, and pericardial disease;

• Recognize echocardiographic findings of ischemic heart disease, including clinical applications and interpretation of stress echocardiography, detection of mechanical complications of myocardial infarction;

• Define the role of echocardiography in the evaluation and management of the cardiomyopathies; and

• Recognize the potential of new technology in the field of echocardiography, including 3D imaging and strain imaging.

Attendance at this program does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures which may be discussed or taught in this course.

INTENDED AUDIENCE

This course is designed for cardiologists, cardiovascular trainees and cardiac sonographers who perform and interpret echo exams and wish to enhance their knowledge of the echocardiographic assessment of adult cardiac disease. Participants with a basic knowledge of echocardiographic techniques and applications will benefit most from this program.

Note: Bringing one’s personal laptop will also facilitate review of the electronic syllabus. Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with a fully charged battery as power sources will be limited. A central charging station will be available in the back of the room for short term charging.
