Echo® Liquid Handlers for Regulated Laboratories

Re-imagine Your Science and Research Bioassay development and deployment are challenging. Complex workflows and stringent success criteria require liquid handling solutions that offer

both the flexibility to meet unique workflow needs and the exceptional reproducibility the work demands.

Using an innovative, non-contact dispensing technology, Labcyte Echo® Liquid Handlers deliver the utmost flexibility with any-well to any-well transfers

and unparalleled accuracy and precision, even when working with nanoliter transfer volumes. Pooling large numbers of assay components and sample

randomization, commonly challenging for standard automated liquid handlers, are straightforward with Echo® Liquid Handlers.

Echo® Liquid Handlers are transforming how researchers approach their science delivering significant cost reductions both through assay

miniaturization and elimination of pipette tips.

Using Dynamic Fluid Analysis™,

Echo® Liquid Handlers use sound

energy to determine fluid composition,

fluid height, and the power needed to

eject a precise volume of fluid into a

destination well. Dynamic Fluid Analysis

adjusts transfer parameters in real-time

to compensate for changes in fluid

height (well volume) and fluid properties

without recalibration.

On-the-Fly Adjustments to changing fluid properties

• Real-time adjustment to changing fluid types, volumes, or properties without user intervention

• Repeatable transfer of complex reagent sets or inconsistent reagents

DYNAMIC FLUID ANALYSIS™

Innovative Technology and Unparalleled Performance Echo® Liquid Handlers rely on patented technologies and novel methodologies to change how liquid handling is used in applications throughout life

science. With Dynamic Fluid Analysis™ Technology and Acoustic Droplet Ejection, the Echo® Liquid Handler enables researchers to transfer a broad

spectrum of fluid types with a degree of flexibility and reliability not possible with traditional liquid handling technologies.

With the ability to transfer low nanoliter volumes of liquid, Echo® Liquid Handlers can produce dose-response and standard curves free of the errors

typically found using traditional tip-based liquid handlers and serial dilution. Echo® Liquid Handlers create a series of dilutions by directly transferring

decreasing volumes of stock sample to individual assay wells. Since each concentration point along the dilution curve is created individually, instead of

serially, the risk of propagating errors along the curve is eliminated — a significant improvement to data quality.

Simultaneous movement of the acoustic transducer and destination

plate during transfer enables Echo® Liquid Handlers to transfer from

any source well to any destination well faster than traditional liquid

handling technologies that require time to transport samples from

source wells to destination wells and to change tips between transfers.

Miniaturizing Bioassays with Acoustic Liquid Handling

Reduce Assay Volumes, Not Performance Successful miniaturization of bioassays requires the highly reproducible and accurate transfer of nanoliter and microliter volumes of cells, reagents,

and samples. Echo® Liquid Handlers deliver small volumes of these components accurately and precisely with flexibility and speed, enabling assay

miniaturization at previously unattainable levels without sacrificing quality. The 25 nL and 2.5 nL resolutions of Echo® Liquid Handlers allow for

direct dilution, whereby standard curves can be generated with an extended detection range and eliminating error-prone serial dilutions. In addition,

acoustic fluid transfers guard against cross-contamination due to the lack of any physical interaction with the liquid.

Host Cell Residual DNA Testing in Reduced Volume qPCR Reactions Traditional methods of quantitating residual host cell DNA are limited by laborious sample preparation protocols and lack of sensitivity. In addition,

recommended total reaction volumes are high to guard against the inaccuracy of human pipetting of sub-microliter reagent quantities. Assay total

reaction volumes can be reduced up to six-fold using Echo® Liquid Handlers, enabling for a large reduction in cost per reaction, additional replicates

and more confidence in the results generated.

The Echo® Liquid Handler was used

to reduce volumes of resDNASEQ™

E. coli, and Chinese hamster ovary

(CHO) cell lines. In all cases, the

manufacturer recommended lower

limit of 0.03 pg in a 30 μL reaction

workflow. The result is a 10 µL cell-based

assay performed with a single instrument,

which provides additional controls and

reduce sample requirement, cost, and

potential human error.
