Concentric RotorThe concentric style rotor creates a “repelling” magnetic force equallyaround its shell’s entire circumference. This style arrangement provides themaximum surface area of repelling force offering the greatest opportunityof nonferrous separation. Concentric rotor Eddy Current Separators canachieve results eccentric units cannot such as PET flake processing.
Eccentric RotorThe eccentric rotor design employs a smaller diameter magnetic rotoroffset at the top of the larger outer shell (as illustrated). This rotor’s“repelling” force is focused in the area closest to the outer shell.Although the eccentric rotor radiates a more focused surface areafor separation, this design reduces ferrous build up by releasingit from the belt after it has passed through the field.
Eddy Current Separator Rotor Designs
Principles of OperationAn Eddy Current Separator consists of an external drum, an internalpermanent magnetic rotor, a drive and belt conveyor. The externalnon-conductive shell operates as the head pulley and rotatesat belt speed. The internal alternating-polarity magnetic rotorturns at much higher speed than the external shell creatinga strong repelling force through the induction of eddy currents. This alternating magnetic field repels nonferrous metalsprojecting them out of the material flow.
In typical applications, Eddy Current Separators are mostoften configured with other separation and sorting equipmentto produce a clean, high quality recycled product.
Eriez’ most recent addition to its extensiveline up of Eddy Current Separatorsfeatures an eccentric magnetic rotorfor separation of nonferrous metals. This unit, the RevX-E, is designed withan eccentrically mounted magnetic rotorwithin the non-conductive larger diametershell. This eccentric rotor concentratesits eddy current forces into a zone ofseparation at the end of the belt. Byfocusing its field, this design ignoresferrous material in the flow.
The eccentric rotor design reduceslong-term wear due to heated ferrousbuild up.
RevX-E Eccentric Eddyadvantages:• Rare Earth rotor produces a powerfulfocused field
• Rotor position is adjustable foroptimum separation
• Reduces long-term wear fromferrous build up
• Compact design requires less space
• Access panels conveniently locatedfor easy service
