Good luck for all candidates! Workshop for Residents in Vienna Al Manning Royal Veterinary College The annual ECBHM resident’s workshop was held at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria. Twenty eight residents came from all over Europe for a three day programme on bovine ultrasonography. On day one we were welcomed by Thomas Wittek and given a brief summary of cattle farming in Austria by Friedrich Führer from Genostar. We then had a series of short lectures summarising ultrasound technique and diagnostic use for various body systems. We finished off the day with a tour of the campus and large animal hospital in Vienna. In the evening we were treated to a meal of typical Austrian cuisine and beer at the Stiegl-Ambulanz brewery. On days two and three the group was split between visiting the research farm and the clinic at the vet school. The farm milks around 80 Fleckvieh cattle with an average yield of 8000 litres, and offers picturesque views over the town of Berndorf in Lower Austria. The residents practised reproductive and teat ultrasound on adult cattle, as well as abdominal ultrasound of milk fed calves. At the clinic we practised abdominal and thoracic ultrasound on weaned calves, as well as structures of the limbs including joint spaces, tendons and bone. We came out of the workshop with some new skills, and are looking forward to putting some of this newfound knowledge into use. We would like to thank the workshop sponsors, MSD, Sanova, Genostar, and Dramiński for kindly letting us use their scanners. Lastly thanks to the team at the University of Vienna for their excellent organisation and tuition throughout: Johann Kofler, Thomas Wittek, Sonja Franz, Martina Flöck, Harald Pothmann and all the technicians at the University. See you all next year! We are on the web! See us at: http://www.ecbhm.org [email protected]

ACVIM Forum 2017

This year’s ACVIM forum was held in National Harbor (MD), USA, from 6th to 10th June. The 2 colleges, ACVIM and ECBHM, have established a collaboration now since several years, which includes the reciprocal invitation of a speaker from the other college at the annual meetings. In 2017, Hugues Guyot was the ECBHM State-of-the-Art speaker at the ACVIM Forum. He shared his passion of trace minerals and inflammation markers. The next ACVIM forum will be held in Seattle, Washington, USA from 14th June to 16th June 2018. See http://www.acvim.org/ACVIM-Forum/ACVIM-Forum-Home for more information.
