Instructions:● Read the Seven Sacrament Notes● Use the Formed website to watch Brother Francis videos about the
Sacraments○ Baptism ○ Eucharist ○ Reconciliation
● Write a description of each Sacrament on the flaps.● Separate the flaps into:
○ Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation ○ Sacraments of Healing-Reconciliation and Sacrament of the Sick ○ Sacraments of Service-Holy Orders and Matrimony
● Glue the flaps on a piece of paper or inside your ELA copybook
Seven SacramentsBaptism
● Baptism is the first sacrament we receive. It is received only once and lasts forever.● As babies, our parents and Godparents help us make the promise to live as Christians.● In Baptism, we are freed from Original Sin and all sin and are reborn as children of God.● The Symbols for the Sacrament of Baptism are: Water, Oils, Candle, Baptismal garment
(white), Words and actions.● The Ordinary Minister of Baptism is the priest or deacon; in case of emergency, any person
can baptize.
Eucharist● Holy Eucharist is the sacrament of Jesus’ Body and Blood.● The word Eucharist means, “to give thanks”.● The Mass is the celebration of the Eucharist.● The First Eucharist took place at the Last Supper where the disciples celebrated the
Passover, the Jewish feast remembering their freedom from slavery.● The Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist is a priest.
Confirmation● Confirmation is the Sacrament in which we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. It can only be
received once.● The Ordinary Minister of Confirmation is the Bishop.● The Symbols used in Confirmation are: Laying of hands, Anointing with Chrism (holy oil),
Words used “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit”
Reconciliation● The Sacrament of Reconciliation is the special way God expresses His love through
forgiveness.● When the priest absolves us from our sins, it is Jesus who forgives us our sins.● Sin is a thought, word, or action that is against God’s law.● The priest wears a purple stole when we celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Anointing of the Sick● The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament of comfort, strength, healing
and forgiveness.● Anointing means putting blessed oil on the body.● Oil of the Sick is a holy oil that has been blessed by a bishop for use in Anointing of the
Sick.
Holy Orders● Holy Orders is the Sacrament in which bishops, priests, and deacons are ordained to special
service in the Church. ● A parish is part of a diocese, which is led by a bishop.
● A pastor is a priest who leads the parish in worship, prayer, and teaching.● A deacon is a man who is not a priest but has received the Sacrament of Holy Orders and
serves the Church by preaching, baptizing, and assisting the bishop and priests.
Matrimony● Matrimony is the sacrament that celebrates the lifelong love between a man and a woman
who promise to love each other as husband and wife.● A vocation is God’s call to serve him in a certain way.● Laypeople are baptized members of the Church who share in the mission to bring the
Good News of Christ to the world.● Vows are promises to God.
