Renewable Energy& EnergyConservation

Energy sources in Indonesia and theworld are running less; greenhousesproduced from fossil fuel burning areaccumulating in earth’s atmosphere, creating havoc on our climate.

Our next generations will reap problems we arenow creating from this indiscriminate fossil fuelconsumption. Solutions must be found. Now.

Out of this concerns, the Directorate General

of New and Renewable Energy and EnergyConservation (EBTKE) along with METI (theIndonesia Renewable Energy Society) and FABAwill hold a conference and exhibition to raisepeople’s awareness to this problem, and to seekactive participations on finding solutions forenergy’s problem.

The awareness to Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation’simportance to help easing energy problem is just recently spreading, although their impacts have long been positively perceived. Policies hasbeen formulated and applied to help raising the concern for renewableenergy. The establishment of The Directorate General EBTKE is oneof strategic action done by the government. Nevertheless, people’sawareness to importance of utilising renewable energy instead of fossilenergy is still low. On the other hand, Indonesia is endowed with ahuge renewable energy potential, still waiting to be exploited. Highdependence on fossil energy seems hard to be reduced.

Annual growth in energy consumption has been averaging 7% a year, despite a limited supply of fossil energy. To avoid relying too much onfossil energy source, the Indonesian government plan to utilize hugerenewable energy source to meet the energy needs in 2025. Underthis plan, 25% of national energy needs will be met with renewableenergy sources. There’s also a national plan to reduce greenhouse gasemission by 26% in 2020. Both of these plans will be socialized in aproposed event to gain public awareness of New, Renewable Energyand Energy Conservation (EBTKE) programs.

This event will be held in Jakarta Convention Center, on 17 – 19th of July 2012 with theme: Renewable Energy & Energy Conservation for

Better Life “We are Ready”. The proposed event is an opportunity forstakeholders to interact each other to enhance the implementationof national program as well as serving as business networking andseeking business opportunities. This event aimed at the establishmentof a framework for socioeconomic and ecological acceptable energyprovision, which will assure the increasing energy provision for therural population through the utilization of renewable energy andimplementation of energy conservation activities.
